The Vita Ruins, an indie band from Washington D.C, was founded by Tim Kratzer and Greg Balleza in 2005. The band's debut album, A Day Without A Name, features an unique and intriguing mix of dark, layered rock blended with romping electronica beats. Following the release of their debut EP last year, the band attracted a [...] Related posts:Best New Releases of the Week: Dead Weather, Holy Fu*k, Coco Rosie, Thee Oh Sees, Sage Francis, Japandroids, Sleigh Bells In Dee Mail 2010, Vol. IV: Neon Indian Produces New Miniature Tigers' Track; Plus, Here We Go Magic, The Morning [...]

The Vita Ruins have definitely been one of my favorite DC bands over the past 2 years. Last year, they recorded some demos in advance of the album that they are currently recording. One song that came out of it was "Sequestered Human." While much more mellow than we are used to from them, it works on a rather intimate level. They will be taking some time off to reconfigure the band and get their first full length completed, but you will be hearing from them again, in the not so distant future. mp3: [...]

This weekend is shaping up to be a good one. The heat won't be too bad and plenty of shows are coming through the area. Friday To begin the weekend, there are some huge shows Friday night. Of course, the so called biggest band in the world, Coldplay is in Philly at the Wachovia Center. Opening is Santogold . MGMT is playing yet another sold out show at the Starlight Ballroom with Violens and [...]

Since The Decemberists cancelled their tour, 9:30 Club had some weekend slots to fill. On Saturday night, they decided to throw a big ass party. Each winner gets a ticket and a bunch of other stuff, including CDs, t-shirts, stickers and who knows what else. All you have to do is send us [...]

Not too much time today, so I just give you four new bands that you should listen to. Thanks to J.A. and Rodolfo for the tipps! (We Are) Performance Electro-Pop from Manchester, UK http://www.weareperformance.co .uk/ http://www.myspace.com/wearepe rformance (We Are) Performance - Lost Youth [...]

Let's keep this simple. To me, this site has always been about supporting the local music scene. So I decided, that there is no better way to celebrate our first anniversary, than to make a mix of local music from the past year. I had so much fun, that I ended up making two discs. Some of these bands have come a long way in the last 12 months, some didn't even exist when we started and others are no more. That said, every song is from a band that claims (or claimed) the Baltimore/Washington metro area as [...]

Washington, DC's The Vita Ruins are in very good spirits after their Black Cat show. They are in such a good mood that they have decided to offer their entire debut EP as a free download. I was fortunate enough to be the person that they asked to exclusively host it. So download away... The Vita Ruins - Thanks For Your Concern (But We're Okay) Godspeed To That Polytheist Alien [...]

For those of you who will be in DC this weekend, Six Points put together a sick show for IOTA tonight. Local indie pop darlings Middle Distance Runner will be joined by local indie alt country darlings These United States to create a ridiculously good bill that also includes Pittsburgh's Black Tie Revue . Ian from MDR was a founding member of BTR, so that should make for a very interesting addition to an already stellar night. Middle Distance Runner - Man Of The People [...]

When I sobered up this morning, I had to give it another listen. Maybe I was reluctant because the CD was handed to me as I stumbled out of the 9:30 Club last night. Top and I threw it in and I listened to it about two and a half times through before I woke up and we were at my crib. Halfway through that first listen I looked at Top and said, "this is pretty fucking good." Top responded with a "yeah it is." Which easily could have meant, "shut up and let me drive, drunkie." Another reason why [...]
