While correcting the mishap with milady Claire Cronin's MP3s in the previous post, I've noticed that the same thing happened with the UK's The Voom Blooms (my original post is here ). So, here is their single from their latest LP, Nine Ships , re-posted in proper MP3 format. Sorry about the mess. The Voom Blooms - Nine Ships {MP3} (from Nine Ships )

The band from Loughborough announced that they 1) were accepted to SXSW again but 2) wouldn't play due to lack of 2,000 pounds. They also announced that they are splitting up and doing one last gig in Hoxton or Loughborough or somwhere. So go, if you can. You can see, though, through their artwork that they were fucking legit, but "Politics & Cigarettes" IS a fucking tune. And I am sad that I never got to see them last year at SXSW :( [...]
Here's a look at three more worthy artists: The SoulicitorsFor those who like: Bedouin Soundclash, Vampire Weekend This cleverly named Edmonton, AB band plays music you can have fun to. The Soulicitors' Myspace The Voom BloomsFor those who like: Arctic Monkeys, The Cribs A bunch of Enligh lads making cool indie rock music. Grab the MP3 for their track "Nine Ships" here. The Voom Blooms' Myspace

The Voom Blooms create a fast paced, jumpy indie rock that's fun, even while covering some pretty dark topics. A Loughborough, UK band, it draws its influences from a variety of sources, including Kanye West, Interpol (only somehow lighter), The Smiths, The Libertines and what may count as an early Bright Eyes. Perhaps a more surprising effects are provided by the Beach Boys and Mogwai. How do you compile all these and more and yet manage to create your own sound? It takes quite a bit of talent (of all sorts), hard work and what some may term [...]
Myspace // "Anna" [mp3] One of the few highlights of this year's disappointing CMJ line-up is The Voom Blooms . The Loughborough four piece has been an Exitfare favorite for a few years now , due to their penchant for mixing blistering energy, angular riffs, and wonderfully catchy choruses together into brilliant three minute songs. Championed by Steve Lamacq, NME, and Rolling Stone, it boggles my mind [...]

The Voom Blooms - "Anna" Once again I'm late to the party. Like really late. (They were listed as one the best new bands of 2006-2007 in Rolling Stones magazine, for Christ sake) Oh well. Doesn't make it any harder to enjoy their gritty yet very catchy indie-pop. Action Biker - "Love For Sure" One-woman indie-electronica from Sweden. I'm not particularly impressed with the album ("Hespirian Puisto") as a whole, but this sweet song is pretty hard to resist. Friendly [...]

This scene unfurled outside my office window this afternoon. Raising the bridge at rush hour snarled up the traffic pretty good. There were more bicycles than cars stuck at the foot of the Hawthorne bridge but I don't think people minded too much because they were all hanging on the railing, craning their necks to get a look at the boats. You could see sailors climbing around way up in the riggings. i wonder if there's a way I can negotiate my way onto a boat like that... The Liars - Sailing [...]

The place to be tonight at SXSW is the Pick Your Own showcase at Latitude 30. Period. The showcase is brings together some of the most exciting new acts from across the Atlantic, who play disparate styles of music (indie rock, neo-folk, blues, and punk) with one common denominator--awesomeness. The line-up includes perennial Exitfare favorites The Voom Blooms , Emmy the Great , and Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit , a blues band that I don't give a shit about (Son of Dave), and my new obsession Ida Maria . It's a can't miss night, [...]

When I heard The Voom Blooms on the KEXP Song of the Day podcast, it was love at first listen. Their upbeat, catchy, and energetic brit pop/post-punk mixture led me to do some further research and here's what I found: The Voom Blooms are made up of four English lads from Loughborough, George Guildford (guitar/vox), Thom Mackle (drums/vox), Craig Monk (guitars), and Brett Young (bass). Their EP, Nine Ships , was self-released and to my surprise, they have yet to sign to any record label. This hasn't held them back though. They've already [...]

There are some things we like to keep under wraps to ourselves, by exposing them, we undercover the risk of losing interest, simply as it becomes a phase of the past. The Voom Blooms from Loughborough in England, musically, are a bit like hidden treasure. Driven with electrifying energy and at the same time charming with love-sick odes, they draw notable influences from The Libertines, The Beatles and psychedelic jangle guitar pop to form beguiling indie rock. Labelled as one of the promising British bands; selling out their singles and demos, they're [...]
There no denying the power of a simple angular riff, something the Voom Blooms know only too well. Their debut single 'Politics & Cigarettes' is an ode to this very fact as the glistening chord that drives piece turns the standard into the wondrous. George Guildford focuses the mind with his bratish outpourings (who needs alcohol when you have politics?) and the ratatat drumming punches the

(image: Worth 1000 ) The Voom Blooms - Politics & Cigarettes A little flash-back to a recent yesteryear (think this was recorded in 2005?), which is still relevant today. Insistent, marching drums, interwoven dual-guitar riffs, and passionate vocals struggling to be heard, all leading to the mildly dramatic chorus: "you and I, we're coming home" . All done with just a slight nod to Interpol . ----- I first heard this track on the sadly departed blog, The Man Who Stepped Into [...]
"Maybe what you said wasn't critical last night..." Spouse I leave this afternoon (Sunday) for London - gone a bit more than 3 months. I'll still keep this site up while I'm over there, but don't be suprised if you don't hear much from me within the next week and a half! I'll be around, though. I've got a pretty big list of my own already, but if you're in the area and you know any great [...]
