I spend a lot of time at Daytrotter . It's a great site. Probably once you discover them, you might never come back to our silly little blog. It's what every music blog strives to be, at least in part. Read this from their site: There are so many music/entertainment websites that copy one another, scrambling so fast to "discover" or present something new to the world. And just because you get there first, it doesn't really make you an explorer. [...]

Way back in the 1960s, there was a growing music scene in the Pacific Northwest. They liked to call it "garage rock" and the bands played loud, hard and distorted way before the Ramones, the Sex Pistols or anybody else. So of course in 1966, three of the most influential bands, The Sonics, The Wailers (not Bob Marley's) and The Galaxies, decided to make a Christmas Album. While the album is a somewhat toned down version of their usual fare, it still stands as an incredibly unique and awesome Christmas collaboration (it's actually one of my favorite albums in general). The Sonics at the Paramount Theatre, Seattle | 31 October 2008 Halloween night is always a surreal experience, but add to it the fact that the Sonics are playing their first show in Seattle in more than 35 years and it gets a even a tad more surreal. The Paramount Theatre in downtown Seattle was packed with zombies (not the Zombies), devils, Egyptian queens, rock stars, aging punks and a whole lotta Sonics fans. Half of the people to whom [...]

Warp records is a very natural home for Gang Gang Dance's 'Saint Dymphna'; Mounds of percussion underpin layers of sonic beauty. You'll need to give this record a little time to grow on you, on first listen i was a little underwhelmed but a seed had been planted. Now, after multiple spins, I am almost certainly naming my first born Dymphna. Its that bloody good. They're on tour all over the US at the moment, be sure to check them. Here's the blissful album closer 'Dust'. Gang Gang Dance- Dust (Z Share) [...]

This is Pete Kember's (aka Sonic Boom, founding member of Spacemen 3) compilation of some of his favorite songs and influences, which he originally aired during a DJ set on UK radio, but has since compiled into a CD and double LP set. The package comes with liner notes describing the selections and why they were so inspiring. For example, Kember says of The Staples Singers' tune "This May Be The Last Time," "This Gospel gem, I believe written by Bobby Womack, is obviously the root of the Stones hit from '65. Pop Staples remains for me the greatest unsung [...]

The 2008 version of An Under Cover Weekend at the Bluebird is double the fun of last year's inaugural edition: The event is now spread out over four nights (in other words, two weekends). And although the premise of the extravaganza is still the same — your favorite local musicians paying tribute to bands of yesteryear by doing all-covers sets — each night will focus on the music of a specific decade. Here's a comparison of the swinging '60s participants; judge for yourself how well they'll do. The show starts at 8 p.m. Friday, September 5, and Saturday, [...]

I had never heard of the idea of witness trees before reading this story from earlier in August but I find it fascinating. I had heard of the infamous Shakespeare tree [stories here and here ] but I didn't know they did the same thing with the Civil War. The Move -- (Here We Go Round) The Lemon Tree From The Best of the Move collection. Radiohead -- Fake Plastic Trees From The Bends [...]

Siempre el recuerdo de tratar bien al público de radio ... aquí en Los Mochis , noche de miércoles de catálogo y clásicos de tres décadas en Galaxy 94.3 fm ... al marcar las 20:15 horas sintonice su receptor... Bob Marley & The Wailers - Don't rock my boat . mp3 .

It's a top two list, simply because I can't be bothered to do 10, but also because I have had these two overrated artists in my mind for a long time wishing to express my views on them. Also, I feel that if I do a top 10 or something, I'll be rambling on into bands I simply dislike, rather than overrated bands. Ready for this? Yes, it's Led Zeppelin. I'm going to say it straight out: they aren't good. Before I'm killed by [...]

H ere is another installment of our comprehensive Lollapalooza 2007 MP3 preview. And if you happened to miss them, you can also view parts one , two , three , four , five , six and seven as well. So what is up with Drew Carey being the new host of The Price Is Right? It is an (ahem) interesting choice to say the least. Drew Carey, really? Good thing Lollapalooza is outdoors because it seems that the governor of [...]
Another week has ended. A new week is set to begin. I hope your weekends went swimmingly. Maybe some of you even swam somewhere? The weather sure has been warm enough, right? I don't really know, I'm just saying that. For all I know eighty-five percent of the country could be covered in snow. Well, since you asked...my day was nice. I went shopping this morning for groceries and toiletries, then I had a good healthy lunch, and then I spent the afternoon joking around with Steve. We walked down the street drinking matching pink smoothies. It was [...]

I'm currently in Texas freezing my ass off. The Parts & Labor shows have been really energetic and a lot of fun. Like tonight at Emo's in Austin, with Matt & Kim ending up on stage during the audience-demanded encore (BJ's really sorry about hitting you in the head with his bass, Matt). One of the best parts of touring is getting to explore cities and hanging out with cool locals (like Ryan in Pensacola). New Orleans was fun, we even ended up at the 25th anniversary party for the landmark bar Vaughn's over in the 9th Ward (with great [...]
