Sometimes Seattle gets it wrong. No doubt a lot of great music comes out of this town and the surrounding area, and bands like Fleet Foxes, Nirvana, The Head and the Heart, Band of Horses, Modest Mouse (okay, Issaquah actually) and so many before them have gone on to national acclaim. But when you've got to dig through the import bin to find the latest album by The Walkabouts , well, something's wrong! The veteran band, formed by songwriting duo Chris Eckman and Carla Torgerson, has been cranking out stellar albums for nearly 30 years and yet they still [...]

Ooit coverden [...]

Chris Eckman, the driving force (alongside Carla T.) behind the Walkabouts, is to speak via the phone, live on diamonds, Tuesday, Oct 25-2011. The Walkabouts have a new album out. It is called Travels in the Dustland . And it is one of the finest moments in their history, well worth your money and time. Any suggestions regarding the questions? John

Soap operas are educational. There, I said it. Sure, the stories are often far-fetched and utterly ridiculous (especially the doppelgänger ones, because every sane person knows you cannot get plastic surgery to look exactly like someone else), but when they flirt with reality, they can resonate. And despite some boring talky scenes with Jennifer and Jack over the last couple of days -- I'm still stifling a yawn, but maybe because it's right now 5.40am Bangkok time, and I can't sleep -- Days of Our Lives has hit an emotional bullseye with the Daniel/Jennifer/Jack triangle. [...]

Memphis-born Alex Chilton, one of rock music's most influential musicians, has died aged 59 in New Orleans from a suspected heart attack. Chilton (pictured standing) first tasted success as the 16-year-old frontman of The Box Tops and their wonderful hit from 1967, The Letter. He then went on to form Big Star with Chris Bell, [...]

Atlas Sound is the solo moniker of Bradford Cox, frontman and linchpin of Deerhunter. Although he's been using the name Atlas Sound for a good 15 years or so, he didn't actually release an album under that name until 2008 with "Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel", loved all over the shop and appearing on most "end of year best-of" lists and not only gave himself/Atlas Sound more exposure but the same thing happened for Deerhunter. Atlas Sound's second album "Logos" was released on October 19th 2009 via 4AD, again to even more praise and [...]

Atlas Sound is the name of a musical solo project of Bradford Cox, the lead singer of Atlanta five-piece Deerhunter. Cox was born with the genetic disorder Marfan syndrome . People with Marfan's are typically tall, with long limbs and long thin fingers. The name of his project is derived from the brand of tape player he used. In explaining his reasoning for a solo project, Cox has stated, "It's just that I have ideas that I can't make work with [...]

I was trying to remember when and how I first came across Seattle's The Walkabouts and after I had just about given up and was going to introduce this concert by saying I could not remember how and when, a little light came on somewhere in the memory as I recalled quite clearly that one of their songs had been included on an Uncut magazine sampler CD, some years ago, (and for the record the promotion worked as I went on to buy many of their albums). Having formed back in 1984, the band have toured [...]
