This Valentine's Day we went in three different directions this year - sentimental and dance ready. We've got everything for those who love V-Day and those who just can't stand ...

Well, it took a bit longer than expected (losing your job in November and having a baby in January will disrupt the blog-writing process a bit), but Given and Taken in Ink's list for best albums of 2012 is finally here. This year, a handful of bands came out of nowhere and blew me away. I knew right away that debut albums from Drew Smith and The Rest would stand among the best releases of the year. They are joined by 28 other great albums, by artists well-known and obscure. I'm pleased that GTI's 2012 list is a [...]
The Walkmen and Father John Misty sell out the historic Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco for two consecutive nights, and it's easy to understand why.

In some ways, pairing The Walkmen with Father John Misty is the perfect bill, as both acts have a similar two-bottles-of-wine flavor to them. From Joshua Tillman’s (aka Father John) gyrating hips, which call to mind a hippie impersonation of Mick Jagger, to Hamilton Leithauser’s comforting drawl, each band brought a level of confidence that invigorated Thursday night’s sold out crowd at The Fillmore. Current indie-folk darlings Father John Misty have found the sweet spot between try-too-hard Americana groups (see: Alabama Mumford Shakes) and the now [...]

At long last our best albums of 2012 have arrived. 2012 proved to be a magical music year for indie rockers and time-tested MUF favorites. We've scoured our resources ...
THE WALKMEN, FATHER JOHN MISTY ( Roseland , 8 NW 6th) The well-dressed gents of the Walkmen want to show you a polished, lush good time. Let their decadent wall of epic symphonics wash over you as they play heartbreakers from their decade-deep back catalog. Also on the bill is Father John Misty, the druggy, dreamy shaman whose majestic folk-rock is a huge draw in its own right. COURTNEY FERGUSON Also see our article on the Walkmen. CAT DOORMAN, TWISTED WHISTLE [...]

There are shows and then there are shows (this one falls into the latter, we think). We're proud to be presenting a pairing responsible for the two of the best records of 2012 this Saturday night at the Roseland Theater as The Walkmen and Father John Misty come to town. If you recall, The Walkmen released their sixth album, Heaven , last year, celebrating a decade that's seen them evolve from scrappy New York City upstarts (the last standing of the great NYC class of '02) to stately, poetic sophisticates. Their music [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive Jason Merritt, FilmMagic When discussing Heaven , the seventh full-length from New York rockers The Walkmen , it's difficult to ignore the ever-present influence of indie-folk rockers Fleet Foxes . Prior to even meeting the Foxes, Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser was a fan. Then The Walkmen opened for Fleet Foxes in 2011, playing cushy theaters he says his band could have never filled on their own. [...]

This show, as I have declared on social media sites, was my music Superbowl. However, these two bands were not in a competition to win the ring. It's been a long time since I have seen a show (aside from a festival) where two power house bands complimented each other so well. Father John Misty Sometimes, people are just born to do something. It is as natural to them as breathing. For Josh Tillman, the man behind the moniker Father John Misty, it is storytelling. J. Tillman has published [...]

J. Tillman of Father John Misty has resuscitated the spirit vintage Mick Jagger swag on the main stage. Tillman stage presence embodies smooth dance moves, witty humor and the creepiness of a college professor ready to pounce on any eligible co-ed all wrapped into one of the better songwriters to surface in the last couple of years. I had dismissed the Father John Misty project as a Fleet Foxes side project and didn't think that the music had enough "legs" to get any of my attention. Last night's set flashed glimpses of "jammy" and "funky" tendencies in [...]

This week Time Out Chicago has a sweet photo slideshow of Dolphin's sleek new digs . • Jim DeRogatis has compiled a lengthy [...]

Inevitably, I always find an album or two sometime after the new year that I wish I had discovered before my year-end best list. Father John Misty falls in that camp for me this year. The only explanation I have for ignoring a fairly well-known artist last year is guilt by association. Father John Misty is Joshua Tillman , the former drummer for Fleet Foxes . Because I'm not a big Fleet Foxes fan, I assumed I wouldn't like Tillman's own band. I was definitely wrong. Father John Misty is dark, intense, [...]
