While I've always found the music of Rilo Kily to be tepid at best, I did enjoy Jenny Lewis's country-tinged side project, from 2005, Rabbit Fur Coat. I have Fur Coat to thank for introducing me to the music of The Watson Twins who received co-billing on the album, and toured with Lewis on [...]

If any of you out there know of The Watson Twins, it is most likely from their work with Rilo Kiley front woman Jenny Lewis. For my part, I first fell in love with them when I heard the song "Shoot The Lights Out" from their album Southern Manners , a painfully beautiful little number about love and loneliness. Well, it seems that they've got a new album coming out on June 24th, the day of my birth. So for this particular Cover Me! session, we're gonna give you a double shot of goodness. The first one is a [...]

I listened to k.d. lang 's album "Drag" on repeat while I was quitting smoking last year, so she'll always have a special place in my heart. Her new LP, "Watershed" came out in January and what I've heard of it is outstanding. The steel guitar alone on "I Dream of Spring", an appropriate track for a rainy English Sunday, is worth the price of admission. MP3: k.d. lang - "I Dream of Spring" London's Blah Blah Blah firmly occupy a strange patch of musical turf somewhere [...]

Louisville's own The Watson Twins have signed to Vanguard Records and will release a new long-player on June 24th called Fire Songs . Most noted for their time with Jenny Lewis and the Rabbit Fur Coat release, the twins self-released their own Southern Manners in 2006. Leigh and Chandra beautifully blend folk, gospel, blues and country, and this first taste of the new album proves that hasn't changed. [...]

Pinback / Autumn Of The Seraphs ( Touch And Go ) I find the sonics of Pinback fascinating. Rob Crow's songs always seem to be on the verge of seething with tension and anxiety, but they're always presented in these meticulously produced packages. The vocals are almost zen-like in their serenity, even when he's raging at the mic, and the guitars - my latent guitar geek would love to know how they make a tone that I'd otherwise consider to be overly-clean, [...]

Back in Indy and catching up on some past episodes of missed TV before college football takes over this morning. Couple bands that I knew of and one I didn't caught my ear. The Jealous Girlfriends have had their music featured on both The L Word and Grey's Anatomy , so they are osmosisizing (Is that word!? It is now.) their way into the mainstream consciousness. A few blogs have picked up on them, and they have a varied sound [...]
Here is a very old interview conducted on February 24th, 2006, with The Watson Twins , Chandra and Leigh Watson. They are most famous for their collaboration with Jenny Lewis for the album Rabbit Fur Coat , but they have also released their own solo album, Southern Manners . Their music is labelled "indie folk" and they have been featured on the show Grey's Anatomy. You are What You Love- Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins Shoot the Lights Out- The Watson Twins [...]
