One of the acts I've really grown to love as of late is The Wave Pictures , who released the excellent Beer in the Breakers LP last year. Already the group has another album ready to turn around and release, again coming your way via the folks over at Moshi Moshi . Said album, Little Black Cars , will be hitting the streets on April 2nd, but for now, they've also just released the single for Eskimo [...]

The Wave Pictures release new single "Eskimo Kiss" via Moshi Moshi on February 18, 2012 The Wave Pictures are back in 2012 with the debut single from their forthcoming album Long Black Cars . Eskimo Kiss is drummer Jonny 'Huddersfield' Helm 's first foray into lead vocals on a Wave Pictures album. With lyrics by long-time collaborator Stanley Brinks - and penned in the canteen on the 2nd floor of NYC's Harlem Hospital - it's a song Dave [...]

Rather than a proto-punk song by Love, '7 and 7 Is' could describe the first two releases in the WIAIWYA 2012 Singles Club, which will release 7 singles on 7" in editions of 777 in 2012. I hope John Jervis has more success with his numerology than Canvey Island harmonica-slinger Lew Lewis, who released a single on Stiff called 'Lucky Seven' in 1978 and received a 7 year stretch for armed robbery in 1987. The first 7", on pea green vinyl, is the Wave Pictures at their most winsome. [...]

Now let's shuttle forward twenty-five years to round about right now. Art alert time as The Wave Pictures come in black and white: [ Buy: Beer In The Breakers ] [Part of Bull and Gate weekend ] -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch

The towns of Camden and Kentish may be renowned for somewhat faded glamour and although The Wave Pictures can't be considered in any way glamorous, they still manage to pack out the Bull & Gate out back. The Wymeswold trio have been plugging away diligently, producing consistently pleasing, if only intermittently astonishing records with the sort of whimsicality with which frontman David Tattersall recounts the most vivid tales imaginable, from waking up on Manhattan floorboards and runny egg sandwiches, to the infidelities of Elvis wannabes and other such unsavoury individuals. Tattersall's naturally [...]
This guys needs no introduction: Mr. Sascha Ring is back with a new album called "The Devil's Walk" and this is the video for his track "Black Water"! Last weekend the lovely folks at Moogie Wonderland were kind/foolish enough to invite me to DJ once again. On and off over the course of six hours, I played the following songs. There was a lot of dancing, and one of these songs somehow resulted in a twenty person singalong. Awesome. 1. This Many Boyfriends - #1 2. Herman Dune - Lay Your Head On My Chest 3. Hefner - Painting and Kissing 4. Tigercats - Banned at the Troxy 5. The Hidden Cameras - Death of a [...]

After two weeks on the naughty step, Friday Films triumphantly returns with more videos from beloved London acts: Beau & The Arrows - 0.7.9.3. Firmer, fiercer and more bass-boosted than previous numbers, this latest is more paranoid freak-out than hundrum electro-rock. [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Last night was our second DJing experience, and it was rather a contrast to the first time around. It was all rather last minute, meaning I didn't have five weeks to fret about song choices. It was in a coffee shop instead of a bar with a dance floor, and given the rain and other factors, there wasn't exactly a big turnout. Didn't matter though as I still ended up enjoying myself immensely. Here's what I played: 1. Herman Düne - Tell Me Something I Don't Know 2. Belle & Sebastian - Your Cover's [...]
