FORMER Hefner frontman Darren Hayman has put out a new live LP recorded with Wymeswold band The Wave Pictures . Madrid was recorded by a technician unknown to the singer and band at a gig in Madrid in 2007. The 12-track release also features one Hayman track, The Genesis Rock , that is previously unreleased. Hayman said: " I had a tour to do in Spain and Sweden and because they were Hefner fans I thought I could get them to be my band for cheap. "They said 'yes'. The tour [...]

Speeding through leafy trees and Paddock Woods to the far end of the sprawling Kentish countryside, the light at the end of the seemingly infinite tunnel is old Geoffrey Chaucer's prime dormitory hangout, Canterbury. Promenading through tunnels and rolling fields of barley, the setting's quintessentially British, the weather atypically sweltering. This year's LOTF keeps it within the family, the line up composed almost universally of home-grown innovative indie, from Southend garage punksters-turned-shoegazers The Horrors , off-kilter Foals-approved groove mongers The Invisible and Archbishop of UK Hip-Hop Roots Manuva . That said, bar Sunday night home runner [...]

Check out the full list of tour dates after the jump from the three bands. Moshi Moshi 10 year anniversary tour: Aug 04 - Schubas Tavern - Chicago, IL * Aug 05 - El [...]

The last year has been interesting for British music. There has been so many great albums that past under the radar of the public and were seemingly ignored by the media whereas there has been tons of bland, boring and uninspiring releases that have been lauded, praised, hyped and bought by the public, who I sometimes think don't like music at all. I've been asked by the BBC, as have many music blogs/sites, who I would nominate for this year's Mercury Music Prize . Now, I never really agree with the winner, or [...]
TODAY is halfway through 2009 - my hasn't time flown - so I thought the time was right for a recap. Because, on average, around half of my Albums Of The Year 2009 should have been released by now. But however much as I'd like to be some sort of omniscient music resource, I'll wager a lot of damn good albums have already passed me by this year. So here's my plea - if I seem to have missed any releases you really think I should have covered by now, drop me a comment below or visit the Sound [...]

[Rock Snobbery |:| A List] Referencing it because I can, Urban Dictionary defines a rock snob as "an especially irritating breed of tool." Yes - in life's tool box, rock snobs are right there next to the guy who thinks he's the Fonz. Even if they have a characteristically, well, snobby attitude, rock snobs are a proud subset the music community can't exist without. Rock Snobbery is a badge one should be eager to both wear and hide - like the STD badge for Girl Scouts. While being ahead of the curve and the [...]

WYMESWOLD'S Wave Pictures are set to release two new tracks through Spanish record label Acuarela 's new Singles Club venture. The band will put out a limited edition 7" Watching Charlie's Angels, which will feature previously unreleased track Swimming as a b-side and be limited to 1,000 copies. Other acts taking part in Singles Club include Agent Ribbons , Darren Hayman , Nick Castro , Mount Eerie and The Wowz .

After the ramshackle growl of their home-recorded four-track albums, released on CD-Rs in the back rooms of pubs, this acoustic affair comes as something of a surprise to me, I have to confess. The sound, more than anything, seems very different. Given the amount of material the Wave Pictures have at their disposal there are some oldies on this, such as old favourite My Kiss, but the sting has somewhat gone out of the music with the arrangements being as they are. The lyrics also seem to have moved somewhat beyond the half-snarled, half-wailed alienation of previous records, [...]

MAY: The Monthly Spotify Playlist words: Jamie Milton top photo: Short Axel We caught onto the Spotify phenomenon a while back but it's only recently that we've begun to marvel at its capabilities. Every new release that one hadn't heard yet could be heard in full, as many times as you wanted, with the occasional interruption from MTV Safe Sex Adverts. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, anyway... Apart from the Grizzly Bear record, every major release in May has been upped by [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: The Wave Pictures - If You Leave It Alone words: Jamie Milton originally scribed for thisisfakediy Nine releases in and still the bass is too bassy, the drums are too distant, etc. But by The Wave Pictures philosophy, if you leave it alone, authentic audio beats compressed audio and the songs are enhanced. They're right, you know. In this day and age where one artist after the other is competing to find the sound of the future, recording their debut album at Abbey Road, double-taking vocals, [...]

Offensichtliche Mitsing-Hits wie "Leave That Scene Behind" oder "I Love You Like A Madman" gibt's auf der neuen Platte nicht. Sie besteht hauptsächlich aus entspannten, leicht melancholischen [...]

Ryan(StopMe): My apologies, this week's TEN4SE7EN is so late, it's in danger of becoming next week's: The Bewitched Hands On The Top Of Our Heads is the long winded name of the latest addition to April 77 Record's roster. 'Work' is wonderfully hummable and as good as anything Arcade Fire have done. 'The DJ' is the best track on DJ Hell's new 'Teufelswerk' LP and it sounds like a lost House-Music classic. It's got none other than P. Diddy [...]

The schedule of free shows slated at the South Street Seaport is slowly starting to be released. Who can argue with a good, free, summer show, or ten? The seaport shows will start on June 13 with Children's Day, followed by the New York City Opera performing on June 27th. The shows we want to see won't start until July, with Here We Go Magic and Bachelorette performing on July 3, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart , Black Moth Super Rainbow and [...]
