Waylon Thornton and the Heavy Hands // Vulture Funk 7" Do I post too much Waylon Thornton? Is that even possible? No, I didn't think so. So anyways, two years ago Waylon Thornton and the Heavy Hands recorded this 4 song EP of riotous blues punk called Vulture Funk. Fast forward to modern day and said EP is seeing a physical 7" release via the New Zealand label Perpetrator Records . Given how generous this band has been in the past by giving [...]
I found this video from the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation touching for a couple reasons:

Karen O Covers Willie & Waylon We first heard Karen O settle into a low-key country tune with last fall's Roger Alan Wade-penned Jackass theme "If You're Gonna Be Dumb, You Gotta Be Tough," but here she is taking on a classic: "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys," a late-'70s hit (written by Jack and Patsy Bruce) for outlaw-country greats Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. O's eery, forlorn cover arrives as the soundtrack to "Abandon," a short video spot for Chipotle's new American farming support organization, [...]

Waylon Thornton // Rat Brew A few weeks ago I premiered a track called "Chamomile & The Kingdom of Light" off of a new untitled Waylon Thornton solo album. Waylon told me that he was intent on taking his sound in a slightly different direction. Well since then he has been working like gang busters to get this new album finished. And now here we are with the finished product in all its rollicking glory. Carrying the pitch-perfect title of Rat Brew, the album expounds gloriously on [...]

Waylon Thornton // Paranormal High School II Man, this was a good week for Waylon Thornton fans. First we got Bored & Alone and now only five days later we have Paranormal High School II. I'm stoked to say the least. While White Moon Recordings calls these another set of "whisper jams", they definitely are not as whispery as the jams on the first Paranormal High School. While they still maintain a rusty lo-fi aesthetic, we are able to hear that Waylon is definitely getting [...]
Waylon Thornton and the Heavy Hands // Bored & Alone I've been a fan of Waylon Thornton 's since I first heard his haunting Paranormal High School release last year. His fascination with darkness and the macabre is a sentiment that I completely identify with, and his lo-fi garage rock just has this feeling that is more befitting of a romp in the graveyard instead of some sweaty rock venue. Waylon Thornton's new album is supposed to be called Melted Rings, but his blog states that they are scrapping it [...]

The Waylons (circa 2008) DeadJournalist.com Exclusive Interview: The Waylons by: Chuck Norton 02.19.11 A year ago I stumbled across a band whose sound I enjoyed quite a bit. They were smooth - alt.country smooth. The band was from New York and - I assumed - they probably had several records out but had somehow managed to stay off my radar. I was impressed enough that I posted something about them on Twitter. Come-to-find-out, an acquaintance of mine in Brooklyn knew a member [...]
Upon hearing about The Waylons for the first time, I surmised them to be an alt-country band. With a name like The Waylons, two people immediately came to mind: the legend of outlaw country and Monty Burns' sycophantic manservant. As intriguing as the latter option may be, it is a highly unlikely source of inspiration for a band name, hence my original theory. Like many assumptions, mine turned out to be false, because The Waylons make guitar-driven pop in the indie tradition. The Waylons actually formed in 2003 and released their self-titled debut album in 2006. [...]

Admit it. Black Ribbons is a record you never saw coming from Shooter Jennings , even if he did spend a portion of 2009 rabble rousing with Tom Morello on The Justice Tour II . But yet, here it is: Operation: Mindcrime meets Radio K.A.O.S. Twenty tracks of dehumanization, commercialization and paranoia set to a soundtrack of propaganda, marching feet, barking dogs and backtracked guitars, and all packaged as evidence removed from the files of something called The United Nations Bureau of [...]
As I mentioned earlier this week, a little while back I got an e-mail from The Autumn Offering vocalist Matt McChesney to discuss an extremely negative review I'd given the band's last album, Fear Will Cast No Shadow. McChesney could have been a total dick about the whole thing, but as it turns out, he's [...]

The Waylons uit Brooklyn, New York brachten tot dusver één album uit. De groep werkt aan een opvolger. Rachel is een nieuw nummer. Een rustig popliedje dat een beetje doet denken aan The Go-Betweens (ik mis die band!). MP3: The Waylons - Rachel The Waylons op MySpace Subscribe in a reader
