A festa promete! Okay, so I'm starting off a new feature that will appear from time to time on our pages. It's geared around two ideas that were spawned while exhausting myself catching as many bands as possible at SXSW: the idea of running a music web site and owning tons of music. Sure, not all of you are inundated with tons of music like I am, but in this day and age, everyone has growing catalogues of singles and albums; it's part of living in a consumerist society. I wanted to force myself to revisit my own history, musically, by randomly going [...]

Jack Featherstone , Max Parsons At long last, Little Boots is finally ready to let the follow-up to 20092s Hands out of the studio and into the world. I don't think anyone - not even Victoria Hesketh - expected it to be almost four years between debut and follow-up, but according to Spin , it took her that long to find the sweet spot between being the "proper songs" she wanted to write and the disco dance floor bangers she was expected to. Still, her fans [...]
► The Vaccines roar into the Fonda Theatre behind their latest album "The Vaccines Come of Age." San Cisco and Zig Zags support. ► Huge night at the Observatory in Santa Ana — Eels play the venue's big room behind their new album "Wonderful, Glorious," while in the Constellation Room, it's Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Foxygen . ► U.K.-bred indie rockers the Wedding Present visit the Echo, where they celebrate the 25-year anniversary of their first album "George Best" by playing it, along with other favorites. Nightmare Air [...]

Frank Yang It was an odd thing to realize about a third of the way through The Maccabees' debut Canadian performance at The Mod Club on Monday night, but it dawned on me that I wasn't so much a fan of the band than their excellent latest album , last year's Mercury-shortlisted Given To The Wild . Not that this points to any enmity towards the Brighton-based Brits, but I tend to form longish-term - or at least in-depth - relationships with the bands I like and go and see, [...]

Our very earliest associates and supporters may remember that the origins of The Cargo Culte lay in a collection of mixes that BaddBob and I began sharing in the late fall and winter of 2008. A few scant months after the banking meltdown I found myself back in Los Angeles after eight years of wandering, [...]
If you're the sort to unthinkingly subscribe to any old adage, you'll most likely deem it better to burn out than to fade away . On today of all days, with the fetid news of Paul McCartney purportedly all set to front Nirvana already stagnating far and wide throughout the internet, the Neil Young lyric immortalised forevermore and made all the more infamous by its inclusion in Kurt Cobain's suicide note couldn't resound with a greater sense of ruination. Well Brighton's supremo janglists The Popguns , conversely, really waned once upon a time, thereby [...]

It's really hard to narrow down a list of Top Albums of 2012, especially when you have four contributors with different opinions. We gave the reins to Nathan.Lankford and Nicole Baumann on this one, since they write the majority of the album reviews, but we all have a little representation within this. Now, we do realize that our site has specialized tastes, so please realize that these are our OPINIONS . You're welcome to disagree, and, in fact, we encourage that process. Also, we're doing a Top 100 because so many records came out this year, it wouldn't be fair to narrow [...]
Amongst the various entries on this week's new release schedule, we were rather chuffed to see a new album by Washington, DC, hardcore progenitors Bad Brains. We'll be honest and admit we'd rather spaced on the fact that the band's classic lineup were playing together again — the last piece of Bad Brains-related material we got our hands on was frontman HR's solo record a few years back — and the news got us thinking about other great '80s bands whose continued existence is a cause for celebration. Sure, there've been a whole heap of lucrative high-profile '80s reunions over [...]

Memphis Industries It's been interesting tracking the musical evolution of El Perro Del Mar , the musical project of Sweden's Sarah Assbring. Her 2006 self-titled debut cast her as the mournful ghost of a '50s doo-wop girl while the 2008 follow-up From The Valley To The Stars invited fuller arrangements into the mix - even getting jaunty at points - while keeping the sentiments beautifully downcast. 20092s Love Is Not Pop was took great strides towards feeling more modern, mostly via studio-slick musical [...]

by Bill Pearis The Wedding Present @ Hotel Vegan 2012 ( more by Amanda Hatfield ) It was just in the Spring when The Wedding Present was over playing their classic 1991 album, Seamonsters , in full but the band will be back in America early next year to perform their 1987 debut, George Best , in full which includes a stop at Bowery Ballroom on February 9 . Tickets [...]
