This week Drake laps up the latest releases from Cold War Kids BFF's, The Delta Spirit , (an album that might also make my top ten list), and Peter Brewis' The Week That Was . While in the same breath, he expresses some bitter disappointment with the latest from pop tunesmith Matthew Sweet (hey, let's just say what we're all thinking, it started and ended with Girlfriend ). -ed Drake's Take: New Releases 08.26.08 It's indie pop [...]
The Week That Was The Week That Was (Memphis Industries) If there's a sibling rivalry brewing in Britain's Field Music camp, it's good news for fans of the Brewis brothers' oblique pop collective. David Brewis' early 2008 release as School of Language found him performing most of the instruments and adding a heavier sheen of distortion to Field Music's futuristic chamber pop. Andrew Brewis, by contrast, pursues a more collaborative and pensive route on [...]
It's indie pop lovers' delight this week, with new releases from power pop legend Matthew Sweet , XTC-ish The Week That Was (ex Field Music,) and a wider release for Delta Spirit 's debut, which was originally released late last year. Playlist: New Releases 08.26.08 Delta Spirit - Ode to Sunshine Stream / Purchase [mp3] This [...]
A lighter release week, but still a few goodies. The new Dragonforce record with the awesome cover is out. B.B. King proves he's still got it with some new material at the young age of 82. Delta Spirit , a personal California favorite of mine, is what I'm looking forward to. And if you're a Johnny Cash collector, the new 2-disc collection of material he did with George Jones should do you good. :: Alias , Resurgam (Anticon) :: [...]

I was talking to someone about MOJO and how I was impressed they hadn't put the Beatles on the cover yet this year. Then I got the new issue and learned that the next two issues are going to be devoted to The White Album , which sort of makes sense as it's a double album. For once, I'm not sure I learned a whole lot new in reading the 20-or-so pages spent on it, including a track-by-track breakdown of the first disc but I was excited to hear the White Album Recovered CD [...]

MGMT ELECTRIC FEEL (AEROPLANE REMIX) Découvert sur le blog français BURNTPIANO , ce remix inédit des MGMT par le duo belge AEROPLANE . La version absolument parfaite pour cet été. [...]
1. Crystal Castles - "Trash Hologram" (mp3) For some reason or another I never picked up Crystal Castles' and HEALTH's 2007 7-inch until recently. I may not have nice things to say about their live show, but their studio recordings are impeccable. "Trash Hologram," for example, is the very embodiment of the heavily-sustained sound Crystal Castles strive for. Two minutes and fifteen seconds of whomping bass lines and starry-eyed synth. 2. The Week That Was - "The Good Life" (mp3) Ex-Field Music member and brother of David Brewis—who also [...]

So...I kind of missed the weekend with erm, last weeks Ten Tracks You Need . Because of that, think of this post as a pre-4th of July Ten Tracks You Need which will be followed by another Ten Tracks You Need on Friday. Break out your calendar, I-phone, pda or whatever and make note of that. Damn, I'm good to you people. And for those of you who, to quote a phrase, just can't get enough, I'll have more posts leading up to Friday. So check back during the week. [...]
When Field Music announced a year ago that they were going on indefinite hiatus, I was sad, but it's turned out to be a blessing in disguise for fans as all it's really meant is that the Brewis Brothers can now double their yearly output. Earlier this year we got School of Language , David Brewis' somewhat mathy, hooked-on-phonics look at the way we communicate. Now comes brother Peter Brewis' new thing, The Week That Was , a similarly high-concept venture that you don't have to fully understand [...]
The Good: Beck - "Chemtrails"; This is only half of the actual song, but at this point I'm sure you can find the whole track streaming somewhere. It's a pretty good song, not fantastic, not really reminiscent of anything Beck has done before, but pretty cool overall. I don't know how this record's going to be, I just never know with Beck but if this is any indication of the rest of the record

Alors aujourd'hui, 1 bonne nouvelle et 2 bons singles ? The Week That Was Waβ ist das ?
