These three day holiday weekends are such a tease. Why can't all weekends be three day weekends? Hopefully most of you got out of town or got out of the house to enjoy the beginning of what summer will have to offer later next month. C=T has you covered with pieces you may have missed while away. Like a new track from the National for the HBO series, "Game of Thrones." I haven't committed to watching this show, despite having the makings of everything I look for in a show. Who knew that the series needed a [...]

Hey there, music lovers, festival goers, and those too good to get out of the city this weekend. Have I got a treat for you! I have gone to Sasquatch multiple times, done it and done it well. Now at the precious age of 22, I'm just feeling too old* and broke for that shit. (RIP, college days.) But I realized there are a lot of bands playing the Gorge that are coming here this weekend as well. So many, in fact, that it could be its own goddamn festival. Now it is. [...]
Tell us your most memorable earthquake story for a chance to win a pair of tickets to see Weekend and Violens at the California Academy of Sciences.

Me , Weird Dreams , Hooded Fang , Howler , No Ceremony , Errors . De quoi retrouver le sourire. Afin de remporter l'une des deux places mise en jeu pour chacun de ces concerts, il vous suffit de nous envoyer votre nom, prénom et adresse [...]

It really feels like disco has died. The tragic news of Donna Summers last week coupled with the latest passing of Robin Gibb has solidified the final straw that disco is dead. Many people are quick to pass judgement on a genre of music that blended dance, soul and a lifestyle that many tried to emulate during a time that was filled with unemployment, war and wait a minute, doesn't seem like much as changed in the last couple of decades. SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER FOR LIFE! Mick Jagger breathed some new life into SNL as [...]
Sorry we're late this week, but the good ol' Allen Oldies Band wants to help you start your weekend by rocking your socks off this evening at Natachee's Supper & Punch. Also, it's Prom Night down ... Continue reading "7 Cool & Cheap Weekenders: Prom Night, Rocky Hill, Yann Tiersen, Etc." >

SNL went old school with their choice in hosting duties this past weekend. They went for the sure thing by opting to have SNL veteran, Will Ferrell, take the hosting duties. The 100th digital short for SNL included Justin Bieber,Michael Bolton, Julian Casablancas, Natalie Portman, Justin Timberlake and more (probably the only time I'll ever use those names in the same sentence). Usher belted out his two radio hits of off the forthcoming album, "Looking for Myself," scheduled for release June 12. Usher "Scream" on [...]
Pot luck show of the weekend: ElecTrick, The Space Villains and Los Area 51 tonight at Rudyard's. Free. It's the big Art Car Weekend, if you haven't heard, and you can get a peek at Saturday's ... Continue reading "9 Cool & Cheap Weekenders: Alkari, Black Bananas, Chico Trujillo, Etc." >

Every week we're lambasted with free streams by everybody and everywhere. This week's album streams come from two acts from opposite coasts who aren't strangers to the scene. Silversun Pickups is hustling their latest album, "Neck of the Woods," out via Dangerbird. It's their third album and the second since their stellar debut "Swoon." After a couple of listens, the vast majority of the album is radio ready and should get plenty of airplay. Beach House is out to prove that "Teen Dream" was no fluke with their latest release, "Bloom." Maybe [...]

Each week, Al's Den hosts a different musician doing a weeklong residency, and at the end of every week—that's Saturday, calendar buffs—they have a little interview segment with the artist as well. This week, Jason Lytle 's been performing on the Al's Den stage each night, and tomorrow night the Mercury 's own Rebecca Wilson will be the one putting him in the hot seat! So be sure to check it out. It's free, and it's Jason Lytle of Grandaddy. Oh, and free apps and beer tasters! ( Further info here. ) [...]

Andrew R Tonry In this week's print edition I interviewed and wrote about Willis Earl Beal, who hopes his art will take precedence over his backstory . I caught Beal earlier this week in Los Angeles and believe, based on his stunning performance, that it won't take long. Indeed, Beal's voice is a striking instrument. His stage presence is equally magnetic. The show began with a recitation of a Bukowski poem. Beal then sat and strummed, arched and crooned, [...]

The new promo for Rockstar's latest video game, "Max Payne 33 included a familiar sound. The clip was released over a week ago, however, I barely got to the track titled, "Tears," that's being used to promote the shoot em' up video game. "Tears" is a creeper with its' a slow menacing beat and manipulated voice. M.I.A. gave us a teaser with a banger of a track with "Come Walk With Me." The single comes from her upcoming album, "Matangi," and the accompanying video appears to have been taken from "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo." [...]

Weekend two of Coachella came and went, and we have two pieces from the festival to talk about today. Thom Yorke hit the stage with Modeselektor for his contribution to his latest album with the track, "Shipwreck." As expected, awkward dancing ensued via Thom's part of the stage. Lana Del Rey finally released the video to her single, "Carmen." The video includes....wait for it.... clips from the 502s and 602s. Lastly, Dr. Dre has a message for his fans and fans of 2Pac and the future of Hologram 2Pac. Strangely enough, Hologram Nate [...]
One more video before the weekend... This week's issue includes my interview with Damien Jurado about his new record, Maraqopa . If you've heard it, you know it's great. If you haven't heard it, it's time to remedy that. Jurado told me about a dream he had that directly inspired the album, and if you think that means Maraqopa 's all about unicorns and stage fright and weird sex stuff (i.e. the things people normally dream about), you're wrong. Maraqopa is actually a desolate sort of western, taking place either [...]

Seems like my gigs at White Horse, Black Mountain (Black Mountain, NC) and The Acoustic Coffee House in Johnson City, TN is going to be quite the happening. At least if you read the local press. Asheville's Citizen Times named me "Hot Pick" for Friday April 20th and Timesnews.net and A! Magazine for the arts wrote about my gigs in Johnson City, TN for Saturday April 21st! I hope to see you all there! [...]

Gotye and Kimbra both showed up on Saturday Night Live handling the musical duties for Josh Brolin. The first thing that came to mind when watching Brolin as host is that this guy was the punk brother from "the Goonies." Crazy. While on the east coast, Gotye checked in with David Dye from World Cafe for a four track session that you can check out over here . Keep in mind that this US media blitz had Gotye travel back to Coachella for his Sunday show. I never understood the allure behind watching festivals [...]
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars It's been quite a while since locals Whitman put out their debut album, Torch Songs . Since then their style hasn't really changed too much; they've maintained a classic alternative sound while not getting too serious. Weekends is no exception to this style, delivering quality tunes that fall easy on the ears. The album creeps out slowly, with Ram Vela's vocals [...]
Lollapalooza appears to be hinting in advertisements around Chicago that Jack White , Justice , Die Antwoord and the Weekend will be among acts playing the big show this summer, according to A.V. Club Chicago and other reports. The ads at El stations feature lyrics from each artist. At least one station (Clark and Lake) is a video ad. More clues to come? Earlier this year, an anonymous Twitter user @lollaleaks announced a headliner lineup only to admit later that it was [...]

Madonna is pulling out all the stops on the support of her new album, "MDNA." She introduced Avicii, and obvy, the crowd went bananas. Kind of funny to hear her ask about "Molly" in front of the whole crowd. New Order and Kraftwerk were among the notables playing in Florida. Check out the interview with Bernard Sumner talking about the possibility of making a new album and reuniting with old bandmates with Fuse below. Check out this review and take a look at their setlist that has me hoping/wishing for [...]
