New Music Canada Track of the Day. Guest Host, Trevor Anderson from The Wet Secrets: "It is made up of some of the long-serving rock and roll veterans of the rock scene in Edmonton ."
"A Bend In The Road" by Bend Sinister It's been a rough weekend and I'm super exhausted, but I just wanted to give a quick Monday morning shout out to this excellent looking documentary on touring Canada by Vancouver's Bend Sinister . Let's hope it comes out soon. In other Bend Sinister news, the band recently made the finals for the lucrative 100.5 FM Peak Performance competition in Vancouver, BC, which means they've got at least 50K (CDN) coming to them after their January 22, [...]

I'd just like to start off by noting that today is Saint Andrews day, for those who are unaware. He is the patron Saint of Scotland....and Greece, Ukraine, Russia and Romania nonetheless. But seeing as i'm Scottish i had planned on making a special Scottish artists themed Monday List. But i promised a moustache review last week so i'm sticking with that theme and i'll get a Scottish artists post in before the end of the year, i'll make sure it's a big post too. That should more than make up for the delay in my promised Scottish themed post. [...]

A hot Saturday in September was the inaugural Sonic Boom festival in Edmonton. And I have to tell you, it was totally worth having to put up with the usual "first timer" kinks to go check it out. After figuring out where the hell the VIP entrance was, I hunkered down on a spot of wet grass with a piece of shitty pizza and waited for the face-melting rock to start. But it just didn't have the sweet, sweet view I assumed there was going to be, so as The Wet Secrets took the stage, I ventured out to brave [...]

It's Christmas Eve and the festive-booze is about to start flowing. The next few days are likely to be packed, so I thought I'd better get the second part of my favourite Canadian songs of 2008 done before the holiday fun starts. If you missed part 1, here it is . Otherwise, on to the second half. Once again, these songs are arranged in a mixtape order that I found pleasing ( download the whole thing in a zip file here ): Human Highway - The Sound ( Moody Motorcycle [...]

So who's up for moving to Bangor, Maine with me? Word is there's an American Apparel on every street and everyone has a Fixie ( Serious Inquries Only , Please!) Haaaa. Haven't really been keeping up with the blogs lately but here's a few songs that I've had on repeat for the past few days. Enjoy Yelle - Ce Jeu (Pornophonics Remix) Pin Me Down - Cryptic (Phones Materialisation Mix) Fake Blood - Mars (Original Mix) The Wet Secrets [...]

So today's my last day of work and then I'm off to the friggin beach!!!! Hooray! Sand, sun, SPF 85 (stupid red hair/pale skin), and a whole lot of REEEEE-laxin'. Don't worry, there'll still be some posts flying in for all of our faithful readers, but just in case I forget, enjoy these: mp3: Tokyo Police Club - Centennial (Dntel Remix) mp3: Sigur Ros - Saeglopur (Mmmatthias Remix) mp3: Mystery Jets - 2 Doors Down (Plimsouls Remix) mp3: The Wet Secrets - [...]

Close Picture by Patricia Au Toronto - As mentioned in my primer, the Wet Secrets are a 5 piece band from my hometown of Edmonton, Alberta, the city of champions (til I left, anyway). The band consists of Lyle Bell (bass, vocals), Trevor Anderson (drums, vocals), Kim Rackel (tuba, trumpet, vocals), Donna Ball (trombone, vocals), and Doug Organ (keys, vocals). They were the first band on my NXNE menu, and man what [...]

there's not a lot of subtlety to the wet secrets , a synth rock marching band from edmonton, alberta, but there is a healthy spirit of defiance punctuated by humor - at times raunchy, such as, for instance, the title of one of their new songs: "i teabagged myself" - and a touch of the absurd. one of our favorites off their new album, rock fantasy , is an infectious & propulsive primer on facial hair, "grow your own fucking moustache, asshole," in which, as is the case on much of the album, the beat and the horns [...]
Why is it so hard to find a decent place to live in the city? All I want is a simple 1 bedroom apartment. I've been to no less than 12 places ranging from the absolutely beautiful (i.e. very expensive) to the reasonably priced (falling apart). I'm now realizing I had a good deal where I currently am - $500 a month including utilities - and I won't find something that good anywhere. Things I originally took for granted (like a dishwasher and laundry machine) are things I may have to live without. Paying more and getting [...]

I've recently decided to make the move from my shoe box basement apartment to something with windows. In that regard, "Get Your Own Apartment," the lead-track from Rock Fantasy , the ambitiously titled debut full-length from Edmonton's The Wet Secrets , is hitting all the right chords with me at the moment. Cocksure and anthemic, even if the theme weren't so appropriate to my current situation this deliciously profane song would be cranked all the time. In fact, I ought to make it the soundtrack to moving day-that'd be a tone setting first impression [...]
I want to know what a wet secret is. Can anyone tell me? Found this band on the CBCR3 blog the other day, check out The Wet Secrets from Edmonton. Formed by contract in 2005 by five rye doused friends and musicians. After recording their initial album (7 days after their first gig), Whale Of A Cow started to get noticed by music fans and college radio. To follow this up, the band took a year to record the full-length Rock Fantasy (which came out this week on Rodeo [...]

The Wet Secrets contain members from various Canadian projects such at Shout Out Out Out Out (an MOKB fav!), Whitey Houston, The Vertical Struts, Dirt City Films and Capital City Burlesque. Their new album, Rock Fantasy , features remixes by Shout Out Out Out Out lead Nik Kozub and Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon. MOKB first heard of them from Nik 7, when he sent us a new batch of sweet remixes . We got our [...]
Friday, April 25, 2008 Unfortunately, I'm facing one of those weekends where I have to work the entire time. It sucks. But, for those of you who will be riding the couch and watching the NFL draft I present to you this EP. You know, for when you get tired of watching Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay fight over whether or not some kid fresh out of school is going to turn around a terrible team all by his lonesome. Enjoy! : James Pants - [...]

After months of foreplay, false starts and rumoured release dates, Edmonton's marching-band-cum-garage-sqaud The Wet Secrets will officially release their debut record, "Rock Fantasy", May 13 on Rodeo Peanut Records. Already a solid fixture at Alberta college radio, the Wet Secrets are poised to spread their gritty-ditties cross-Canada. Formed in 2005 after the emergence of a racy photograph and a box of old marching band uniforms prompted them to write and record an album in seven days, The Wet Secrets cobbled together their first live show and released the haphazardly magical 'Whale of a Cow' album. And they did [...]

Are you ready to go in? The Wet Secrets steer your dinghy directly into their Rock Fantasy , which trembles with throbbing pulses of noise, cries and echoes of desire, hooks that search for your skin, and at its heart, a dark enchanting chasm that devours your flesh whole as you laugh at its whimsical irony. The Wet Secrets - Easy Prey vs. Sex Maniac (mp3) Rock Fantasy is coming in May.

Two records have ended up on my desk (or inbox, whatever) that definitely don't fall into my wheelhouse, but certainly warrant a mention. The first - The About a Girl EP - from Montreal's The Winter Gloves is an interesting effort to say the least. The opener, Let Me Drive , is a dancey-pants electro number that I could take or leave, but after a few listens, I really started to embrace the warmer textures they experiment with just underneath the pulsing rhythms. When I [...]

Now that we are finally putting the finishing touches on the New Brunswick mix (100% guaranteed to be up Monday), we started thinking about what comes next. With Aaron Booth , Cadence Weapon , the Whitsundays and now The Wet Secrets all on the hill this week, you might guess Alberta. Well good work, Chauncey. You got it bang on. Anyway, The Wet Secrets aren't even really a band, more of a morphing entity comprised of Trevor Anderson (The Vertical Struts) , Lyle Bell (Shout Out Out Out [...]
Site du label : http://www.nrmlswlcmrcrds.com/ /////// Nik 7 - "Theme From Dinx" (mp3 from Bigstereo ) Nik [...]
