It's the holiday season and while we all think about what gifts might be waiting for us at the end of the month, there is a gift that showed up in our inboxes and Twitter feeds this morning that should excite all fans of The Afghan Whigs. The legendary Cincinnati rock band are reuniting for their first live shows in 13 years in 2012 and the masses are acting like a kid on Christmas morning. On the weekend of the 25th-27th May 2012 at Alexandra Palace, London, All Tomorrow's Parties present the second UK I'll Be Your [...]
That the 2011 Voodoo Music Experience dispatched the second Le Ritual Stage to expand the electro-focused Le Plur area and add an additional DJ venue should come as no surprise to anyone who made it out to City Park last Halloween or attended literally any other weekend music festival in the last 12-18 months. Last year's return of the electronic tent was greeted by the most remarkably determined and enthusiastic fans I'd ever observed at a multi-day event, as the thousands-deep crowd of dub-step, techno and house fans consistently on hand each afternoon as the gates opened swelled ten-fold by [...]

Much of the nation, most especially the mid-west and the south, have been trapped under a dome of extreme heat for the past month or so, while the Northeast has been dipping in and out of excessive temperatures for weeks. Here in the west, we've had a mild summer with below average temperatures for most [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
As we mentioned previously , the Langerado Music Festival is making its return in 2011, after a two-year hiatus. They've just announced their initial 2011 lineup, with Death Cab For Cutie, Trey Anastasio Band, Ben Harper , Ween , and Thievery Corporation on top of the bill, and a slew of buzzy indie bands and electronic acts rounding out the weekend festivities. The event is slated for October 8 and 9 and will be back at Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida, just outside of Ft. Lauderdale. Check it... [...]
When Beast Make Bomb settled into a cozy corner on the top floor of Georgetown's pristine business school building, they were itching to finally play a song free of interruption. Their first attempt in Dahlgren Square proved near perfect, aside from the earth-trembling twelve o'clock chimes of the neighboring clock tower. On the second try, we secured permission from the kind folks at Uncommon Grounds to play inside the café, a venue that turned from humble to nightmarish once the coffee grinders went on in full force. Undeterred, we led the Brooklyn quartet over to the [...]

Words and images: Erica Bruce The raw power that comes from the stage when The Whigs play live is continually astounding. It's not from the volume, though they do play loud, it's more from the giddy amazement that such a tidal wave of sound can come from just three people. Their stop at the 9:30 Club on Friday night on the "Converse Get Out of the Garage Music Tour" was no exception. The band jammed their set full of goodies from all three of their full-length records ("Give [...]

Unbelievably cool band and NPR favorite , the Carolina Chocolate Drops , are headed to the Sunshine State next month for stops in Fort Lauderdale and Orlando before helping headline WMNF's 30th Tropical Heatwave extravaganza. The truly eclectic Chocolate Drops play traditional, black banjo/fiddle music with a definitive modern twist . The result is damn near magic . The Boone, North Carolina trio update traditional music with soul, blues, and, at times, a beatbox. Fiddle [...]

Felix lending a hand at Allways Lounge on March 28, 2011 Bands passing through New Orleans are often put in a bind when it comes to reconciling their desire for acceptable ticket sales at a larger venue with the reality that, on any given night, this town has dozens of concerts to offer, the majority of which are of competing quality and for a substantially lower price. All too often, upon grasping this concept, nationally touring bands simply cut and run, passing over the state of Louisiana completely for more bankable markets in Houston and Dallas. [...]
