Man. I wish I had time to type out some stories but I've barely got time to shit, shower and shave before heading back to work. I really went into this month's show with no plan and came out with, what I think, is a really rad show. There is a good mix between new and old, loud and louder and a cool cover of Faster Pussycat's "House Of Pain." So Imma shut up and you should press play: Track Listing: 01. The Eagles - Outlaw Man (Desparado) [...]

Photos and words by Debi Del Grande A little country, some old boots, blue jeans and some beer and whiskey were in order at the Troubadour with The White Buffalo headlining a sold out show. "Wish It Were True" sunk in on my end with Jake Smith (vox/guitar) singing from deep down. Matt Lynott "the machine" was nicely placed on the side on drums with Tommy Andrews "chardonnay" getting funky on bass. Covering Iggy Pop's "Candy," Matt Lewis celebrated his wedding anniversary with his wife singing by his side. And if you are missing the music of [...]

I know I checked out The White Buffalo back when Once Upon A Time In The West was originally released, but I must have been hopped up on stupid pills that day ‘cause I passed on the cd in the most decisive way possible...I deleted it. Shame on me. A couple of weeks ago I was watching Sons Of Anarchy when this completely awesome song starts playing. So, I fire up Soundhound and learn that it’s “The Whistler,” a new single from The White Buffalo. I immediately buy it and [...]

Seven albums in, Mathus's solo career continues to get more diverse and satisfying. Jimbo Mathus is probably best known -- unfairly, at this point -- as a founding member of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, where he was a major contributor to that group's ragtag take on hot jazz and swing. Since then, he's wandered so far and wide on the musical map that it's hard to even believe he's the same songwriter who penned songs like "The Ghost of Stephen Foster". 1997's Plays Songs for Rosetta found him...
Jimbo changes his tune over the course of a few months and comes back with a set of tracks that hit their mark. Fat Possum Records , 2013 7.5 / 10.0 Jimbo Mathus is perhaps best known as the leader of 90′s jazz hall upstarts [...]
J imbo Mathus is the sound of the South. The Mississippi native creates music that makes even us Northerners feel as though we were born with Bayou blood coursing through our veins. White Buffalo , his second album with his band The Tri-State Coalition, is a masterful collection of stories deeply rooted in the mythology of the area, and connects us outsiders to his generational landscape. The album's first track, "In the Garden," sets the tone for the musical exploration of the Mississippi Delta and leans heavily on biblical references of good and evil, set to a [...]
2012...what a year of music. We got new releases from favorites such as Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and heard new favorites in Father John Misty, Nude Beach, Tanlines, and more. Last year Earbuddy celebrated one year of existence with the best 50 albums of 2011 . However, we've grown since [...]

Jumping off the stage and performing a song in the middle of the pit at the El Rey Theatre, Delta Rae immediately warmed the crowd with its Southern hospitality and charm. With three siblings in the sextet North Carolina band, it was a family affair full of folk rock, country, gospel, and stomp. Highlights included a solid cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Chain," The Oakland School of the Arts Group performing on stage and the song "Chain of Love," which was written in protest to Prop 8. The White Buffalo had the crowd there early (and for good reason) [...]

The what and where are listed above, the why is obvious. Who doesn't like bass on the beach? This is BASSRIDE, an installment presented by WHITE//BUFFALO, F∆UX and Pioneer DJ mixing the moving sounds of electronic dance music with skateboarding at the beautiful Venice Beach Skatepark located on the waterfront. The shindig goes from 2pm 'til sunset. Basskleph, Peacetreaty , Hot Mouth , Will Bailey , Whiskey Pete, Dave Arevaldo & Special Guests If we've ever heard of TGIF at its finest...Do it.

• Space. The Final Frontier. Until, of course, it's not anymore. Then there will be a new Final Frontier, and we'll all have to start altering our dreams so we can desire to go there. You know what space has a lot of? Stars. Distant suns and planets. Lots of galaxies. But you know what there [...]
