Kelly Clarkson performed a cover of The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" at the 125th anniversary Coca-Cola celebration at Centennial Olympic Park on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Not sure how I missed this way back in May, but as my friend Paul recently said, "Kelly Clarkson is the best thing that ever came out of reality TV." Perhaps she's also the only good thing.

If the twenty-second preview hooked you, this full segment of Jack White on History Channel's American Pickers is your linkbait of the day. Herein the erstwhile Stripe delves into his love of taxidermy (he's not a hunter, but a lover of animals and the "majesty" of dead, stuff ones) and bargains with the show's hosts for an elephant head they've procured and shipped to him. Actual retail cost of said item + shipping = $12,500, if you were curious, which Jack haggles down a bit by offering a few items from his personal trove of collectibles in trade: [...]

Well, here's one way to start a weekend (or your first credit statement of the year). Only a mere six days into 2012, Third Man Records has already announced its next Vault package. It's quite an assortment, too. Starting at the top, the first of three goodies is the third and final volume of the Vault's singles compilation. As the store's website reports, "We've loved the idea of these singles comps but are putting these baby's to rest, maybe one day they'll come out in some other form, but vault members will be the only ones [...]

Roughly two and a half years ago we reported that Jay Farrar (Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt), Jim James (MMJ) and Will Johnson (Centro-matic) had headed into the studio to a record a new batch of songs inspired by Woody Guthrie's unrecorded lyrics, a la Billy Bragg and Wilco's amazing Mermaid Avenue records. According to Paste , the trio were personally invited by Guthrie's granddaughter, Nora, to sift through the songwriter's notebooks and scratch pads to gain insight on the artist and his unfinished work. On February 28, the trio will [...]
Songwriter, producer, and Raconteurs co-founder Brendan Benson announced his own record label and publishing company, Readymade. Another televison show appearance for Jack White and his Third Man Records.
In September we toasted the best new bands of 2011 . Bright futures for those guys! But come this time of year it's also important to remember the musical groups who called it a day. Some of these acts were taken from us before their time, while others imploded due to overwhelming apathy. Herewith our look at all of them, good and bad and who? . Thanks again to Matt Neatock for the video production assistance. Please hold your applause until the end. Read More...

Well happy good-golly-hippity-day my pretties. We've all been so busy lately that I feel like I owe you. Frankly, I have only one way to repay you for your glorious patience... and that is with equally brilliant chunes. So, lets get funky, groovy, all of that weird stuff and have a little mental party together. I've got the tunes you've got the moves. Lets Do It. Welcome to Remix Roundup Vol. 57 Attention: For those in the Seattle area- I'm throwing a huge party at The Tacoma Art Museum on New Years Eve. [...]

This isn't a new remix of "Seven Nation Army" but I never knew who did this version until I just heard it in the G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer. That made it easy enough to discover it was The Glitch Mob. Thanks Google. The new G.I. Joe looks astronomically better than the first flick. Judge for yourself by watching the trailer for Retaliation . The heavy electronic take on The White Stripes classic adds to it, but finding out Bruce Willis is still making movies is the real shocker. [...]

The garage rock heroes from Ohio have added a cylinder to their sound on every successive album, to the point where they're firing away on a V7. Here, on their seventh full studio album El Camino , the duo have relocated to Nashville where guitarist Dan Auerbach has founded his own recording studio. Along with [...]

Glitch Mob are some of the founders and innovators of the glitch hop music movement. With industrial/computer sounds, they make music sound like it was in fact created in the Matrix but with an organic feel. It's freaking really cool. Enjoy. As we approach the end of yet another year, we find ourselves looking back -- not just at the good (of which next week we'll be discussing plenty of, with the publication of the Thrash Hits Albums Of The Year lists), but the bad. Over the past twelve months, some of our favourite bands decided [...]
