For those who missed SxSW, this month's Rumble brings Austin to San Diego. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

Hard to believe for anybody who knew Bill Baird's music with Sound Team — memorable, expansive stuff like "Afterglow Years" — that he is the songwriter behind Sunset ... or {{{ SUNSET }}} as it is rendered. It's low-fi psych-pop that seems perfect for our current Era of Low Aspirations, but Sunset commingles with pop's past a lot better than most, their off-kilter melodies and harmonies warping nicely through the hazy reverb. Sunset's fourth album, "Loveshines But The Moon Is Shining Too," comes out Tuesday. ||| Download: "Moonlight" [...]

Not a bill to lose to track of on a busy slate of live music tonight, this month's edition of The Rumble is an all Austin, Texas affair at the Someday Lounge, featuring Sunset, The White White Lights and Dana Falconberry, plus a screening of Echotone , the new documentary about the culture of Austin's music scene and its burgeoning names-to-be. The brainchild of director Nathan Christ and photographer Robert Garza, the film examines how some of Austin's musically-employed get along when an economy tanks-- not surprisingly [...]

Echotone is a new documentary spotlighting the Austin music scene, including the city's unique status as "The Live Music Capital of the World" and the challenges that its indie musicians face. This month's Rumble party at Cafe Du Nord on October 6th features three bands from the film, Sunset , The White White Lights , and Dana Falconberry , and will be preceded by a sneak preview screening of the doc. The screening starts at 7pm, with the [...]
If there's any place Seattle might envy as a music town, that place would have to be Austin. Home to Willie Nelson, SXSW and a hyper-active night-life scene, for some musicians Austin seems like THE place to be, a mecca for midnight creativity. The same pull that brought so many creative types to Seattle [...]

Date 9/4/10 Location Emos Doors 9pm Tickets FREE!! So those looking for a fun time on Saturday night need to be heading out to Emo's for a totally free show by some of the best bands Austin has to offer. The lineup includes ATH favorites Ringo Deathstarr , She Sir , White White Lights , and [...]
The first moments of The White White Lights' debut EP, Medium Head Boy, sound like a crunchier version of something French pop-rockers, Air, would put out. The opening synth sequence of "Space Invaders" sounds like it came straight off the intergalactic duo's latest album, Love 2. But then something happens. Jenny Gacy's bit-crushed post-punk vocals come in, and the music is totally transformed. Her intensity and emotion brings the album closer to something emo than spacey-electro pop, for better or worse. The funny thing is, she's singing about space invaders. Gacy's lyrics about organ-donating body snatchers, [...]
