As stated on part one of the results. Finally to finish off this poll! This is a new category on this poll. Here are the results of albums and EPs that came out last year. With the votes tallied up, you people voted so don't blame me for the outcome! As I stated before, this poll is for fun and not to be taken seriously. Enjoy! ALBUMS/EPS: Loon Choir - [...]

It's back again this year! (If people like it or not ) The "Who's Hot In Ottawa's Music Scene" Poll returns for 2013. Did it for the first time last year . As a reminder this is just for fun or possibly who wins can be in the 4in1 session for March. Making the playing fields easier this year. last year's winner won't be counted this year (Don't want to be like Xpress [RIP] where they always have the same winners every year [...]

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone is having a great night ringing in 2013. In case you missed it, I had my radio show on CHUO FM today on New Year's Eve. I had a Matias of Ottawa Showbox be my special guest on the show. There are two phone interviews with Alaska of Yamantaka // Sonic Titan and Jonas Bonnetta of Evening Hymns. Did my countdown of the Top 12 Canadian albums of 2012. (Check Top 12 on here ). [...]

Definitely had a exciting night on December 22nd at Ottawa's Babylon Nightclub . Being the Christmas holidays, there was alot of people who came out to this. Also being a late show, you never know what will happen at a Ottawa Explosion show. Playing at the show: • The White Wires • Uranium Comeback The show started off with Uranium Comeback. Features [...]

Let's hope we survive the Mayan Calendar or with the hectic Christmas Holiday shopping/festive stuff!!? Everyone in Ottawa, get ready for the return of The White Wires . Myself it's been awhile that I had seen them play live. ( Last time was February 6th ) For those not going away for the Christmas holidays. Why not go to Babylon on December 22nd for their "proper" LP release of WWIII which dropped on July 31, 2012. It's been long over due and it's going to be one wild show and party. [...]

Second is a phone interview with Devon of Beekeeper. I also played alot of Christmas/Holiday tunes. Check it out! Here is the playlist: Vince Guaraldi Trio - Christmas Time [...]

Considering I listen to roughly ten new albums each week on Spotify, it’s not easy narrowing down my list of top albums to just five. While my favorite album was determined months ago, the rest of the top 5 and my honorable mentions list has fluctuated greatly. However, after much internal debate, shuffling of positions, and a far amount of procrastination, I present my top albums of 2012. 5. Imperial China – How We Connect The [...]

Is it early?!! It's that time of the year where everyone compiles their best of 2012 list. I do have my best of albums (Canadian and Non-Canadian) but it's still in a work in progress. For now I decided to make my list of the best live shows I've been to in 2012. Since it's 2012, why not make it a Top 12. There will be some of the shows that didn't take place in Ottawa but was simply "WOW!" when I happened to catch that show. So here is my top 12 shows [...]

Because at least two of you asked for it, here's the third part of my Top 25 Albums of 2012 . As I’ve said, I easily could have listed 50 releases, but I realized that half of those would have been albums that I only listen to when I’m in a particular mood. In other words, they’re not immediately accessible, and that to me knocks them down a notch. So, if you’re looking for 25 releases that you can immediately dive into and love, this is the place to be. Enjoy. [...]
We live in a golden age of music. Well, sorta. The tools to record music have never been as inexpensive and widely accessible. It's never been easier to start a band, make a record, and cheaply distribute it thanks to MP3s. Which means not only is there a ton of interesting music out there, but there's also a shit ton of crap. The majority of us, unfortunately, will never become the next Prince, David Byrne, or even Panda Bear. That's why taste filters like blogs are still relevant, and magazines (even the ones that have dropped their [...]

The end of 2012 is drawing close, and that means it's time to start making "best of" lists. Below you'll find the first part of my Top 50 Songs Of 2012 . In case you're curious, I chose the songs from the 400+ tracks that I shared around here throughout the last 11 months. Enjoy. 50) : White Wires - All Night Long : Every time I hear this pop punk gem I have to listen to the rest of their album, which is full of songs that are just as catchy. [...]

Today was an all vinyl day on the show. So I bought in my collection of singles and LPs that was played. Special guest in the studio was Lidija of Roberta Bondar . She bought her collection of vinyl that was being played Check it out! Here is the playlist: The White Wires - Crazy The White Wires - Pogo 'Til I Puke [...]

Ottawa trio White Wires quietly released their third full-length, WWIII , on Dirtnap Records this past summer. Though I have long been a fan of Peach Kelli Pop —the solo project of White Wires' drummer Allie Hanlon—I've only recently caught on to the classic power-chord-littered and power-pop-laced punk of the White Wires themselves, thanks in part to a promo CD in my car that features "Did You Forget My Name?"—a brash and simple two-minute number I can't seem to shake. Fans of Gentleman Jesse, The Equals, The Exploding Hearts, and The Nerves: if you're not already [...]

I went to the 7th Ottawa Community Record Show that took place at St. Anthony’s Hall in Ottawa. Wanted to see what records I can find this time. Still was abit overwhelming but wasn't as crazy as the last one. The records I bought this time were: The White Wires - Crazy/I Need Your Love (the Poppees) 73 single from Total Punk The White Wires - Pogo 'til I Puke Tonight/Don't Call Me When You're Ill 73 single which was re-pressed by Ugly Pop Records . New Order - World [...]

In what has already been a great year for Dirtnap Records , they continue with the latest release from Legendary Wings . The group has a little bit less power-pop then recent releases from the likes of White Wires or Mean Jeans , but what it lacks in the pop vein is made up with a sincere rock n' roll enthusiasm that's bound to be the soundtrack to my Friday. There's an obvious spirit to the band, and it shines through in the tune we've got below. [...]
Today is First Fridays in Hampden. And a lot of businesses like Doubledutch Boutique, In The Details, Art House all have special events/sales/treats planned. It's also Celebrated Summer Record's 6th anniversary. The celebration gets underway with a massive $1 7-inch sale/happy hour. CSR has about ten boxes of singles which will all be marked down to one dollar! There will also be 5 dollar CDs, donuts and root beer! Atomic Books will be helping out by serving adult beverages. Then the CSR 6th Anniversary continues at 10:30 at the Golden West Cafe when Scum Again, [...]

White Wires have always had a handle on the crunch and swagger of garage and a fine handle on jagged bits of punk but they've never shown through their power pop hearts with as much finesse and style as their latest album WWIII . Its predecessor and the debut had punch but this one's tapped into a legacy that stretches from The Records through Canadian punk heroes Teenage Head with stops off in Shivvers territory. Its their most melodic, which I'm sure some garage cranks would call a sad commercial departure but that melodic edge gives them the most [...]

It is the last week of August. This means it is the last week of summer. Here is this week singles chart for the week ending August 26 - September 1. This week's #1 goes to Crystal Castles with Plague. Having found a Youtube posting of their recent Reading Festival. I had to make them #1. There are new debuts from Feist, A.C. Newman and Yamantaka // Sonic Titan. Check it out. This [...]
