As our holiday gift to you, we've compiled the ultimate ode to 2006 in our top 20 Albums of the Year. If you're a devoted Refinery29 [...]

PETER AND THE WOLF [MP3] Peter And The Wolf - Safe Travels I got news for January... You'll just have to wait for more information though. Muahaha. My friend Matt gave me a copy of Peter and The Wolf 's album Lightness this week. Those who read GorillavsBear.net are probably more than aware of Red Hunter's amazing project. I however always seem [...]

Jamaal Tinsley So, Monday . Seems like any other day, right? Actually, that's completely false. Today basketball season starts up in the US, and needless to say I'm very very very pumped. The Pacers will be in a sinkhole this season, but I think the hidden power in the Eastern Conference this year is New York. I'd be looking out for Chicago, too...you never what could go down. Ohh, check this out: indie darlings Of [...]

a few months back i was drawn in by a band name that sparked an internal struggle to realize whether it was the best or absolute worst i'd ever heard. today i still haven't quite figured it out, but i have grown to like them quite a bit - to the point that it's finally time for me to recommend them to you. The Whitest Boy Alive is one of the many projects of Kings of Convenience's frontman Erlend Øye (html, yay). his voice is unmistakable but [...]

Well I did it...125 Albums that you should own and 1 year full of Blogging pleasure...As I celebrate the 1 year anniversary here at NeilesLife I have many people to thank...and I think you know who you all are (cause I`m too lazy to name all of you)..Seriously though..thanks to all of you guys who come here and read my shitty grammar and stories about Music, Movies, Life and Culture...I started this blog cause I needed something to keep my mind off of Cigarettes and without the help of you guys NeilesLife wouldn`t be going strong [...]
Yup, that's me. Friggin' Patriots. Friggin' Broncos. --- Anne McCue is an Aussie singer-songwriter who's like Kathleen Edwards but with more RAWK. She's really great, and her prior album, Roll (which the live clip above is from), was a great album that was mostly overlooked in the States. Her new album just came out last week, Koala [...]
The weather is dreary here in Greenpoint, the epicenter of the Polish-American meets lower-income hipsters universe, but that doesn't mean we can't shimmy-shimmy, yeah in the Brooklyn Zoo. Pants off, dance off. Vitalic - Bells If My Friend Dario was not an acquaintance in 2006, you have issues. It's time to get on the Vitalic boat. While Friend was more a straight-forward electronic thrash, this is a more meandering and house-rific track - full of chord scales, volume [...]

Fear my crappy photoshop skills I think compiling The Daily Graboid every week is probably my favorite thing to do on this blog. Every week I usually manage to always find a couple of albums from artists I had no previous knowledge of. If there's one thing I try to do here, it's that i'm always looking for something new and this is just one of the many ways I come in contact with a lot of new music outside of reading blogs, websites and such. Like I [...]

ever since i heard his work in the dj kicks series, i've always had a soft spot for erlend oye . yeah, i can totally understand some of the critics (his voice is too breathy, he's too one dimmensional, why does he have to sing), but for all of their critcisms, i find myself seeing the flip side of the coin, and actually enjoying those aspects of the music. awhile back, i heard that he was involved in another project, and promptly forgot about it. and then today, lo and behold, pitchfork has a half decent [...]

Erlend Øye (propietor of the world's most useless site) once again has a new project in stores. It's not a Kings of Convenience record, not a solo album, and it's not a bunch of guest vocal appearances on this DJ mix or that one. No, he is now at the helm of his very own proper band, Whitest Boy Alive . A "rock" band no less. Fear ye not, followers of Øye. Just because he's playing guitar and singing with other people who are playing real live loud and noisy instruments doesn't mean [...]

Been in need of good, new music? If so, I would recommend that you give the tracks below a listen (or two). Each of these albums will be hitting the shelves in the next two weeks. mp3: Burning Dear Whitest Boy Alive (the band, not the kid from that movie Powder ), So as you may recall, I was quite obsessed with a member of your band for a while. No it wasn't a creepy stalker kind of thing, I was just convinced for about a period of six months that anything he touched turned to gold. I first heard Erlend singing on "Winning a Battle but Losing a War" at a listening kiosk in Borders. I had never heard anything so soft [...]

Typically, Wednesday mornings are very rough for me. Not sure why, but I can never wake up. I threw my Ipod on random this morning, which I never do, and this new track came up. Whitest Boy Alive - Burning Instantly, I recognized Erlend Øye's haunting, but fragile voice. It woke me right up. I investigated a bit further and found that Whitest Boy Alive was originally an "electronic" side project for Øye. As you can hear, its no longer [...]
Preston asked me to post a few of the tracks I'll be playing, so here you go: Hot Chip - A Glue Too Thick - mp3 Everyone here should know about Hot Chip by now. I'm not sure if Preston's played this at DSC before, but you'll probably hear it tomorrow from me. Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Moi - mp3 Remember that awesome song in European Vacation ? [...]

http://www.myspace.com/thewhit estboyalive I've only heard a few tracks from The Whitest Boy Alive , which could very well be the best or worst band name depending on who you asked. You'd imagine that I would be surprised to hear the first single "Burning" had none other then Erlend Øye of Kings of Convenience providing lead vocals on the track. In fact, he does lead vocals on the entire album which is just lovely as his vocals bring so much to any song that features him. [...]
