The folks over at indie label Friendly Fire have picked up a new band to add to their growing roster, The Whitsundays. The Canadian group features two members from Tripwire favorites Shout Out Out Out Out, and will be releasing their self-titled album on January 22. On first listen of the song "Sorry James," we are reminded of '60s British mod rock, featuring bits of the Zombies and the Animals. If you're a fan of quality psych-pop, download the free MP3 below. We're definitely looking forward to hearing the album in its entirety. [...]

Eitt það allra ferskasta sem ég hef heyrt undanfarið er hljómsveitin The Whitsaundays sem gefa mun út sína fyrstu plötu þann 22. janúar næstkomandi.

Since we're still all turkey'd-up and felling good, we thouht we'd lob another thirteen slices of delicious tunage your way before the month ends. Download and slide them into a playlist with an eye-catching title like "ORIGINAL RADIOHEAD "IN RAINBOWS" DEMOS - NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION", but leave your Nano or Zune out in plain sight so your subway-mates think you are all insider and stuff. It could just as easily be 1967. But no matter the year, Edmonton, Alberta's the Whitsundays certainly have a knack for writing yellowed, reverb-wrapped pop music, borrowing from the grand tradition of English psychedelia, garage, and vintage organ rock. With reverent nods to the flower-picking whimsy of the Zombies, the red-faced bluster of the Animals, [...]
The Whitsundays certainly have a knack for writing yellowed, reverb-wrapped pop music, borrowing from the grand tradition of English psychedelia, garage, and vintage organ rock. With reverent nods to the flower-picking whimsy of the Zombies, the red-faced bluster of the Animals, and the delightful inanity of Syd Barrett, the Whitsundays' self-titled debut is a vintage gem, and a charming hodgepodge of '60s musical ephemera. The main Whit, Paul Arnusch -- who also logs time with starry post-rock supernauts Faunts and post-punk reduxers the Floor -- called on his ever-expanding collection of vintage gear (from archaic guitars to [...]
TV Notes: Heroes - What fantastic episode we were treated to this week! Major advancements in the plot were made, exciting hostage swappings, a "death" and re-birth of a major character, it was almost too much to take in! Unfortunately we have only two episodes left until the winter hiatus, and of course with the writers on strike who knows how long we will have to wait for new episodes. I'm

Today I have an EP. It's good. It's also going to be my last post until Monday. Before I get to it though I want to strongly recommend that you get out and see Control if it's playing anywhere remotely near you. Ian Curtis' rapid rise and fall is probably one of the most tragic events to ever transpire in music history, and everyone needs to see why things unfolded the way they did. Also, I think it's important that any avid music listener take a moment to ponder about some of the narrative parts [...]

Little change of pace here. The Whitsundays are a group of Canadian kids that specialize in playing a type of psych -pop reminiscent of the Zombies or The Stranglers . Nice throw back sound with all sorts of reverb. Check out a single off the upcoming record. Mp3: The Whitsundays - "Sorry James" Read more about The Whitsundays here .
Shaping up to be a rough week at the office as I'm down my primary proofreader and even her backup as well. Luckily I'll have at least one day during the week to spend laying around watching football and being bloated. Not that that is a weekly tradition - well, at least the bloated part - but that's the joy of a holiday week. Of course, there's also a bunch of great music.... The Whitsundays Garage-indie outfit from Edmonton provides organ-fueled memories [...]
