According to the poster, this is about 40 minutes of French television from 1966. It includes The Merseys, Georgie Fame (always welcome around here) with some Memphis-style horns, the Who, one very hip French DJ, and some other treats. The Georgie Fame footage looks to be from a similar collection of footage from the Ram Jam Club that we saw back in January when I posted this amazing film of Junior Walker and the All Stars. Otherwise I've had difficulty digging up any info on this. Maybe Bedazzled knows?
Hands down Woodstock was one of the greatest moments in history. It featured some of the best music to ever be recorded. There has not been a festival to have the cultural impact like Woodstock did. The live performances were nothing short of legendary. Woodstock was full of classic moments like Jimi Hendrix's rendition of the " Star Spangled Banner " to Santana tripping on LSD thinking his guitar was a snake's head during "Soul Sacrifice." Here are 10 incredible moments for the "three days of peace and music. Santana - Soul Sacrifice [...]

I was listening to Quadrophenia this morning and was struck that while it's running time exceeds that of a single CD it never feels overly long. Then I thought about recent albums from any number of bands that decided to employ every second of space afforded by a CD (or, even beyond into the digital realm that literally has no time imitations). Those, almost without fail, actually make you grow annoyed with the band as they overstay their welcome. In a day and age where every album seems to require a "deluxe edition" with another 15-30 minutes worth [...]

Remember " Sleeping In Waking "? Turns out that wasn't a fluke. Rina Sawayama 's B-side "Who?" is just as evocative and sumptuous — a big, theatrical number that covers a lot more ground than its slight 2:21 runtime would suggest. You can grab the Sleeping In Waking single digitally now via London's Make Mine , with a 73 version coming sometime in May. The post listen: Rina Sawayama — "Who?" appeared first on Soft Signal .

The name of the band may be a bit of an oxymoron but Southampton band Welcome Pariah play music you certainly wont want to cast out. You can even use an oxymoron to describe their music as as contemporary psychedelic. [...]
Filed under: The Hit List HENRY DILTZ, AFP/Getty Images When Rhode Island's Newport Jazz Festival debuted in 1954, audience members sat in neat rows of folding chairs and applauded politely for acts like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet. Six years later, fans were so anxious to get into the festival, a riot occurred as ticket-less music lovers stormed the gates during a Ray Charles set, prompting a visit from the National Guard. Tim Presley's White Fence boils rock and roll down to its primitive essence. Armed with a four-track, Presley's tunes have a fuzzy quality that makes the songs sound like they're on a dusty old 45 you recently found in your dad's basement. Coming off of his team-up with Ty Seagall , Presley's latest, Cyclops Reap is a slice of lo-fi garage rock that is short on originality, but what it lacks in groundbreaking song structures it more than makes up for with a [...]

The Mo-Odds: Soto - The Mo-Odds newest EP, Soto , starts off at a full sprint. And it stays that way, until the very end. It’s loud, fast, and full of soul. But the impression doesn’t last long. The songs are explosive, but their fuses are short. Every second counts on this over-before-you-know-it album, but if you listen attentively, you’ll notice some incredible things. It’s no secret that the Mo-Odds model themselves after the best blues rock artists of the 1960s. Their Facebook pages list The Animals as [...]

What is it about today that has led to incredibly cool backstage videos surfacing? On top of the footage of Buddy Miles and Phish we came across this morning, we've found a video of The Who's Roger Daltrey shooting the shit with Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin that was filmed in 2002. Plant was aboard The Who's North American Tour in the summer of 2002 as the opening act. This clip shows Robert conversing about all sorts of things with Daltrey and [...]

Ralph's always got one ear to the ground when it comes to up and coming young bands, especially from Scotland. So when the word on the street was that The Dons were doing a gig he sent his intrepid reporter Malcolm 'Anorak' Parry along to review and have a chat with the band. [...]

I received a message from Stuarto requesting I cover his show in the late afternoon hours of Friday, March 8. After a minute or two to think about it, I agreed. In all the times I've covered for his show over the past year and a half, I have never done a show that gives a nod to his show, which often features more mainstream music including a handful of tunes from the 60s and 70s. For March 8, I decided this needed to change. I pieced together quite the show for the first two [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Q + A Don Emmert, AFP Pete Townshend talks the way he writes -- in minute detail. An articulate, intelligent and well-informed 67-year-old, Townshend's decades-in-the-making autobiography "Who I Am" is not just an art student-to-rock star account of his life but includes historical context and self-analysis. A life-long diarist and note-taker, the book covers so much, but still not enough: the creation of the Who and their [...]
