In 1999, a few years before we lost bassist John "Ox" Entwistle, Neil and Pegi Young called upon The Who to perform at the annual Bridge School Benefit Concerts at Shoreline Amphitheatre. The shows took place on October 30 and 31st with The Who performing nearly identical sets each night. While The Who went unplugged for the gigs, in keeping with the Bridge School concerts tradition, we love that Ox utilized a heavy fuzz tone on his acoustic bass giving the performances an edge. We're smack dab in the middle of SF Sketchfest, which we're happy to call the Greatest Comedy Festival in America, and Dakin's running around laughing himself silly, so I'm taking over the task of recommending shows for those of you who love music but hate laughing. That can only mean one thing, though ... [...] The post Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 1/31/13-2/6/13 appeared first on Spinning Platters .

The Who relaunched their Quadrophenia tour last night at the Honda Center. A closer look at one multitracked voice covering a flawed classic, producing a classic in its own right.

They're the ones that rebel against all the stupidest ideas of their elders. They're the ones who'll take care of you when you get old. And they're the ones the Wu-Tang Clan makes music for. They're also intrinsically connected to music, [...]

"When I was a teenager the wreckage of a sailboat washed up on the shore of Agate Beach. The remains of the vessel weren't removed for several days. I walked down with my father to peer inside the boat cabin. Maps, coffee cups and clothing were strewn around inside. I remember looking only briefly, wilted by the feeling that I was violating some remnant of this man's presence by witnessing the evidence of its failure. Later I read a story about him in the paper. It was impossible to know what had happened. [...]

The turn of the year has historically proven to bring with it a slew of bizarre events and weird energy, and the music world is not exempt. For example, a Beatle nearly got killed and was saved by a table lamp, a [...]

Might as well get the Who stuff out of the way; Yes, he's Pete Townshend's baby brother. Has appeared on Who albums from Tommy to Endless Wire, and on tours with the band, Pete and frontman Roger Daltrey. But there's more to Simon Townshend. "Forever and a Day," the anthematic opener here, possesses a sweeping optimism that has nothing to [...]

I love watching great performances or well-made documentaries featuring my favorite artists from the comfort of my couch. At the end of each year since we started Hidden Track in 2006, I devote a B List towards what I can consider the best music DVDs/Blu-Rays of the year. 2011 was such a good year for concert films that I expanded the list from its usual 10 to 15. Can't say the same about this year's batch, so I cut it back down to 10. However, those that made the cut are all worthy of your time. [...]
Suicide Sundaes - Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen, Sunday is back. Greg is here to bring you the week's dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn't care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. Coming your way this week we have Kavinsky being remixed by Wolf Saga , Ellie Goulding being remixed by Feature Cuts, new music from [...]
