Marilyn Manson, poet and performance artist. Marilyn Manson gave a poetry reading in L.A., in support of The J. Paul Getty Trust. On 10 September, Manson read William Blake's celebrated poem The Proverbs of Hell. The poem's most popular line: "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom." But the best part is Manson's decision to have a drink of some strange orange liquid at the poem's conclusion. Fitting.
If ever a Fantasy Poetry Football League becomes reality, the following team would be prime to win not one, not two... well, numerous league championships.

The Danish quintet The William Blakes (inspired by the poet) have recorded two albums since 2008, both of which they released on their own record label Speed of Sound . Their sophomore effort, The Way of the Warrior , was released in the fall of 2010 and is a beautiful album. They have great vocals and harmonies, singing emotive songs about religion, politics, fear and hope. In addition to a drummer and guitarist they also have a keyboard/trumpet player. Throw some reverb into the mix and the result is songs that are [...]

Here is a spectral taste of the upcoming LP from Danish band the William Blakes, which will be their 4th in over 3 years. The foursome have that Denmark sound down (see also Mew, Choir of Young Believers and Treefight for Sunlight) wherein the vocals have a faintly synthesised feel. They approach falsetto but stop just short, if you were looking to bracket maybe you could call it truesetto. If this song were a person it would definitely be a girl such is its slinky glamour. Mark Stewart & The Mafia : Jerusalem [ purchase ] Geoviki´s post on Jerusalem as interpreted by Billy Bragg made me remember another fine take on Blake: a dubby postpunk gem by former Pop Group singer Mark Stewart. Anthemic indeed.
The Raveonettes are back and will release new album (their fifth) Raven in the Grav e on April 5. When I heard first promo track off the album, the gorgeous Forget That you're Young , I immediately thought "man, this is so vintage Sharin and Sune ". Then when I received the first promo mail (of probably a dozen), I learned that I was all wrong because "… the familiar bombastic beats and squalls of guitar-noise take a backseat …". Damn! [...]

Octopus, Amplifier's sprawling double disc opus and third LP proper, is as ambitious a record as 2011 is likely to see, despite having been released to fans over the wires of the world wide web late on last year. Two discs harnessing over two hours of genre-obliterating, transcendental rock, the Manchester trio seem to have little desire to pander to "indie" heirlooms any time soon... Opener The Runner kickstarts proceedings in as visceral and groggy a fashion as an oil slick, sounding akin to the seabed drawing forever closer to a gargantuan rotary blade capable [...]

Castellón de la Plana, Spain The Fruhstucks Sutja Gutierrez Think it's difficult to explain, but my history begins with my own mind trip. I'm Sutja and this is all started when I was young, not too long ago... Making music after school and during breakfast time, listening to my own tunes and making some, that's the way of The Fruhstucks , not too complicated, just [...]
It's man vs. technology today, as my computer is anything but cooperative. Boxstr.net is down for the third day in a row!
Yesterday was pure torture, as I was tired beyond belief. Had far too much to drink and went to bed far too late Saturday evening, so yesterday my age once again showed its ugly face. The partying and drinking wasn't a direct result of Denmark 's trashing of Cameroun at the World Cup (would like to think of it as "trashing", though a "fortunate win" is the somewhat more accurate way to describe it), but simply because I spent a real fun evening with great company. And we all know how [...]
