Ahhh, weren't Saturday mornings just made for twee pop? Well, they are round our place as the unpleasantness of mon/fri seems like a distant memory and with the next instalment still far in the distance it seems wholly appropriate to remain shoeless for the day. As we scan the fridge for benefits slight but really enjoyable tunes rise from speakers not designed to exploit lossless formats. The Wind Whistles and their freely available goods fit the bill perfectly, who cares if the vocals drift in and out of tune this is heavenly (!) stuff. The only thing that could [...]

Liza and Tom are back again! Yes, British Columbia's finest boy/girl folk/pop The Wind Whistles have blessed us with yet another collection of seriously fun tracks that are nothing short of delightful. But, Animals Are People Too shall ring a bell with a pitch very different from their debut album, Window Sills . It is safe to say they have stepped their game up. Or at least taken it in a different, possibly four legged, direction. Though the title of this frenzy-inducing pop album [...]

Tom and Liza are the Wind Whistles and they live together in the suburbs of Vancouver, Canada. As an indie folk duo, they both sing and both play acoustic instruments (guitar, bass). Sometimes they play alone and sometimes they bring friends, more times not. They think they sound like a cross of Lemonheads and Violent Femmes while people tell them they sound like a cross of the Decemberists and the Moldy Peaches. Beginning in the spring of 2006, they've done the usual artist thing: demo, radio, festivals, tours, friends and lots and lots of shows. In 2007, they have released their [...]

The week ahead, instead of bringing fall weather to southern California, brings a return of scorching temperatures. Yesterday I looked longingly at the beautiful winter squashes that are now appearing at the farmer's market. No way could I turn on the oven for an hour to bake them to melting deliciousness, not even at night. Another week of salads and whatever I can find to cook outside on the barbeque. Maybe these songs will appease the Sun God. Hopefully, I will see It Might Get Loud this weekend. [...]

Vancover, BC "Turtle" The Wind Whistles on MySpace The Wind Whistles on The Hype Machine

oh my, talk about takin me back to my shitty little studio apartment on dearborn in chicago circa sometime in 1994/95. oh those your good times, the worries were few, the beer was cheap(er), the gut was flat, the lungs still in pretty good shape, my demeanor: shiny and i was listening to a lot of spinanes, lois, beat happening, mary lou lord and throwing muses. the record in question that's taking me back is canadian outfit the wind whistles and their newly released lp, animals are people too . its a folky record but with enough [...]

Tom and Liza, a couple, play indie folk together as The Wind Whistles . . . Another nice musical group from Canada. What the hell do they have in the water up there, eh? This year, a creative commons license , they re-released "Window Sills," their debut, and now they announce the release of "Animals Are People Too." For free! It's well worth the time it takes to cop it . . . For fans of: Decemberists , Bright Eyes , Cloud Cult . [...]

New video from The Wind Whistles - cute or disturbing, depending on your opinion of animal masks:

I'll be honest: at first, I didn't think I would like The Wind Whistles . They seemed a bit too folk-pop cutesy, in a we-knit-our-own-sweaters-and-p lay-spontaneous-tributes-to-mo ther-nature-while-out-walking kind of a way. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I personally can't knit to save my life and am currently hating mother nature for making it so damn hot. (Although I guess the human race have a part in that as well.) Anyway, the point is I was so sure I wouldn't like them, only to end up having their latest album Animals Are People Too on [...]

So Matthew's plane crashed on the way back from Italy, after a rather nasty accident apparently involving a trainee pilot, gin and a difference of opinion on the work of Tom Waits. Only kidding, folks. Matthew's alive and well, but figured he'd be trawling through unread e-mails all day, so you have to endure my own personal brand of humour and warped self importance for one more post. Sorry. Tuesday 30th June 2009 - I Heart Hiroshima and the Pineapple Chunks at the Bowery I Heart Hiroshima [...]

The Wind Whistles Genre: Folk Vancouver, BC Sample Track: Turtle The Wind Whistles are a Vancouver indie-folk band who are set to release their second album entitled Animals Are People Too on July 28. Tom and Liza are the members who make up The Wind Whistles and they live together in the suburbs [...]

The Wind Whistles are a band from Vancouver, Canada, who make rather sunny folk pop, with more than a little tinge of americana. This is the follow up the their debut album ' Windowsills '. That album was one of my favorites of last year, and so it's hard not to judge this in relation to the previous release. And whilst the first album is perhaps more immediate, with more obvious hooks and sing-along choruses, 'Animals Are People Too' is definitely a development. It's still very accessible, but there's a little more depth - a more prominent [...]

this compilation is about free-music! ...not only the newest tracks, simply just those, who i enjoied most in the last 10 month of maintaining the lemonjohn-blog . i decided to inlcude only tracks which can be described with the genres: indie-pop-rock-folk, because there's currently a really big net-scene about free-electronic music, but it seems to be nearly forgotten that there are lots of amazing artists in those genres who also give their music away for free. (not saying that the electronic-music-scene hasn't brought some real musical-diamonds to my [...]

I knew that the magic wouldn't last... ...and soon, you put me to the task MP3:: The Wind Whistles - Turtle MYSPACE:: www.myspace.com/thewindwhistle s

Tom and Liza are Vancouver's The Wind Whistles, an indie folk duo whom both sing and both play acoustic instruments(guitar and bass). Their second full-length, Animals Are People Too is out and is a perfect example of two people meant to make music together. For several years they've done the usual artist things: demo, radio, festivals, tours, friends and lots of shows. But they are at their creative best when they are in the studio putting ideas, thoughts and experiences to words and music. And as you listen to the music you'll feel as if you are hearing [...]
