Taxidermy Hall - 'Lasting Words' feat. Winston & Goldstein mp3 Music people talk some shit at the best of times but some of the metaphors churned out to describe this neat new track by Taxidermy Hall are pretty funny. I won't name and shame but a prominent music presenter must've been reading New Scientist at the time he made that crap up. Anyho, 'Lasting Words' has a sweet flow and a nice vocal addition by Jacqui Collager. This is not in the league of 'Washed Out' but it's definitely worth a listen. [...]
Thrupence - Winston Melbourne producer, Thrupence , has risen to the top of my list of people to watch with his previous two beat tapes. The thing is, he was making those beat tapes from old scraps, beats he didn't know what to do with. Beats he might just throw away if he didn't find something to do with them. It's like being beat by someone playing left handed, only to find out the whole time they're actually right-handed . [...]
A new video from our friends Vandaveer hit the web this week, and we can't just keep it to ourselves. It's yet another great visual interpretation of a Vandaveer song, this one from "Dig Down Deep" and it features not only Mark and Rose, but also friends from These United States and other musical friends of Vandaveer. Check it out below and be sure to catch Vandaveer here in Cincinnati at the Southgate House for a show May 13th. May 05 Triumph Brewing Co. New Hope, PA [...]
Easter is coming, so it seems righteous to post the first in a series of great Christian music that, I hope, will lift the spirits of the believer, and make those who don't believe wish they would, if even for the duration of a song. This mix comprises gospel, soul, blues, funk and country, stretching from the late 1920s to the early 1970s. Some of the featured artists will be better known in other genres, some of them got their start in gospel music. Among them is Sly Stone , who as Sylvester Stewart was a child [...]
You've heard of one-hit wonders, well these guys were two-hit wonders. After a massive success with "Color Him Father" the original band eventually broke apart and was later re-formed with new members who kept the old name. More interesting than the story of personnel changes is the fact that both sides of their early forty-five recording were hits, each side in its own way. A little over four years ago we did an extensive investigation of the hit single's B-side, which was a song called "Amen, Brother." That song is credited by many [...]
Busy times at the moment, lots of irons in the fire, lots of stuff coming up. First up, you've probably heard about The Maccabees (pictured top) return, thanks to all the exposure they've been having on the likes of Radio 1 and XFM recently. I quite liked their debut, Colour It In , with its interesting tales - a sort of poor man's Wombats. They've made a free download available, No Kind Words, however I must admit that I really really dislike it from what I hear. It's boring, it's repetitive [...]
This kinda reminds me of how New Order always did their own extended remixes, which often times were better than the original. I guess maybe, its a personal thing but for some reason I really prefer it there are less vocals and the track is 50 percent longer. Its good that I can still be a little excited about an "dance punk" band in late 2008 but the Lost Valentinos' new single just gets it right. Its a pretty sweet glimpse into their forthcoming album. It feels like it has been longer than a [...]
Voltaire Twins are from Perth and are a sister/brother duo. They make pretty catchy rudimentary pop music. They have recently supported Ladytron and played Parklife. Their early demos consist of two tracks, Disco Inteligence Light and London. DIL will probably get most people's attention with its charming Glass Candy meets Crystal Castles aesthetic. Personally I'm beginning to despise the whole "8-bit" glitchy sound but I think I'm part of a minority, so I'm sure people are going to love DIL. Where they really shine is London, with its brooding [...]
The fact that I wasn't aware of Fluorescent until this morning is really a testament to the diversity and strength of the Australia music scene. Their style is somewhere between My Bloody Valentine and New Order . This is most obvious in their track Unfamiliar with begins with a primitive synthetic drum sequence which slowly begins to segue into a dense drowning wall of guitar. Really endearing stuff. Fluorescent - Sleeping Fluorescent - Collapse Fluorescent - Unfamiliar They have [...]

Pink Pong Education, The Amen Break
Can I Get An Amen ? from marl3ne on Vimeo . There is a nice, well - how should we call it - documentary about the most famous break in the history of mankind, from The Winstons 1969 Amen Brother . Though it might be familiar to many, this eighteen minute video is a very nice piece of education for all you music nerds out there and should grant you perfect knowledge if you always wanted to appear as the ultimate smartass in front of your friends.

Mix For The Bros of The World (Who Will Probably Hate It)
Today's post comes from guest blogger Chicago hipster Bro-ntosaurus Hotpants Askance! So read up my bro-zillas.So I went to this potluck dinner the other day (my roommate and I brought a wonderful oat-apple crisp that she made). And at this potluck, I was talking to this one guy at length about various common interests, most notably bicycles (and biking in the Chicago Winter, 'cause I'm

Say Amen, Somebody
Listen to Amen, Brother by The Winstons, featuring the celebrated "Amen" drum break by "G.C." Coleman (Metromedia, 1969) Just how on earth did a single 6-second snippet of recorded sound become the linchpin of an expansive discourse on the muddled relationship between electronic media and intellectual property? The origin of the so-called Amen Break , its rise to fame as possibly the most sampled bit of audio ever, and the covoluted story of its entry into the "collective audio unconscious" [...]
