Frank Yang Just to be clear: I had absolutely no intention of going to any shows this past weekend whilst in New York City. Yes, I checked to see what was playing over the long weekend and certainly would have hit something up if it were appealing, but taking a break from standing around in Toronto clubs till the wee hours of the morning by standing around in New York clubs till the wee hours of the morning is not my idea of a vacation. However, a chat with Soundbites on Saturday afternoon [...]
![The Wooden Sky – If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1963633_lg.jpg)
To quote the great Cosmo Kramer: "Wood, Jerry. Wood." There's a lot of bands that we've reviewed on HearYa with "Wood" in the name - The Deep Dark Woods , Wooden Wand , Royal Wood , The Wooden Birds . Heck, even one of our writers is named Woody and the first compilation we ever put out was called Earwood Volume 1 . What's the moral of this story? You guessed it. We flipping adore wood. Enter Wooden Sky. Canadian? Check. Wood in the name? Check. [...]

On Monday evening local roots rock band The Wooden Sky played a free set in the basement of Sonic Boom Records in the Annex. The place was nearly full, and we were all treated to a full set of songs new and old. The 5-piece performed tracks off their new album, If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone , just out this week, as well as 2006's self-titled disc. The band's front-man, Gavin Gardiner, was in fine form, and the other band members were too. I was sitting at the front with a few others, [...]

Okay, I've now had my fill of cake. I'm not much for chocolate, cake or ice cream, but I've had all three in one week, and my sweet tooth has officially been sated! While my taste for sweets is limited, my taste for music... not so much. This week, I present yet another scrambled-egg affair of aural architecture. Special thanks goes out to Ryan, who turned me on to Solillaquists of Sound . It's a helluva piece of work, and definitely worth checking out. I hear they're playing Atlanta next week, and will likely be in attendance- I'll [...]

Hot off of their Bedrooms and Backstreets Tour and the Canadian release of their second album "If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone", Toronto-based outfit The Wooden Sky is excited to be hitting the road with Elliott Brood (Six Shooter) for a string of nine US shows, starting in Seattle October 9th and finishing up at CMJ in NYC October 22nd. Often compared to the likes of The National and old-school Counting Crows, The Wooden Sky's new 13-track LP brilliantly sweeps through countless rock and roll subgenres. It is sure to please even the harshest music [...]

Okay, okay, I know that I said the Daily Graboid would return to it's original weekly state, but I was out of town all of last week so I'm hoping you can cut me a little slack this one time. I've never been this busy in a very long time, as I'll be moving for the second time this month starting at the beginning of next week. If you're curious, I'm going to be moving from Alabama (where I've lived my entire life, sadly enough) to Salt Lake City. It's taken me a while to warm [...]

Frank Yang It's funny that though I offered readers an introduction to The Wooden Sky just last month , watching them play an in-store at Sonic Boom on Monday night, the eve of release for their new album If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone , it felt like I was the one being introduced to them for the first time. Previously, I'd regarded them as very good with moments of great roots-rock band - terrific at what they did but unlikely to turn anyone's world upside down. [...]

Who: The Wooden Sky from Toronto What: Toronto based outfit the Wooden Sky released their second full length yesterday, If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone . They have been touring across Canada playing shows in disparate venues ranging from backyards, to rooftops, to parks. Conventional tour dates start on September 26th in Sudbury as they make their way out west to Victoria. The sounds on this album cover a variety of southwestern influences, with a countryish swagger interspersed amidst rock overtones. Think Wilco and Flaming [...]

The Wooden Sky announce October tour.

Photography of Baby by Me TSURUFOTO is now on ETSY! Buy prints! Look at that cutie up there! That's the impeccable, un-imitatable, and beautiful TsuruBride taken with my brand spankin' new Fuji Instax 200 ! For those who are playing a little catch up, I shoot alot of polaroids, but unfortunately, polaroids are no longer in production and as the supply is steadily shrinking, the cost is going up to where a single photo can cost [...]

If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone is the second album from Canadians The Wooden Sky. It falls firmly into the Americana genre and was released yesterday. The album is a collection of fine country tinged, folk songs from the roots-rock singalong anthem of The Late King Henry to the lovely harmonies contained on Oslo. It is a fine album that hopefully will bring them to the attention of more

New Wax I love folk music, but let's be honest, the indie-folk genre has been flooded by mediocrity in recent years. Luckily, Toronto's The Wooden Sky doesn't fall into that category of derivative hacks. I praised their 2007 debut album When Lost At Sea , which was released under the band name Friday Morning's Regret. The band has since wisely changed their name to The Wooden Sky and they are back with a brand new LP entitled If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm [...]
"I keep on repeating all the last things you said." If my days were spent galavanting back and forth between the great Northern cities of Toronto and Montreal, I'm sure I'd have some great stories to tell. Canada's The Wooden Sky , who release their first full length on August 25th, are some such storytellers. "The 13-track LP sweeps through countless rock and roll subgenres," reads the band's promo e-mail. Essentially, it has all the makings of a classic rock [...]

saddle-creek.com Land Of Talk was supposed to spend this year promoting the hell out of their excellent 2008 full-length debut Some Are Lakes but following a short bit of local touring around the end of January, including an excellent long-awaited show at the Horseshoe , the band had to go on an extended break while frontwoman Liz Powell underwent and recovered from vocal cord surgery. They returned to live duty with some shows over the course of the Summer, but have now put together a [...]

Back in the long long ago, it was extremely rare to stumble upon free music. In fact, as the historical photograph above documents, many of the musicians of yesteryear were quite fond of playing one note compositions. Not so today! Lucky for all of us, musicians today pepper the sonic landscape with a cornucopia of amazing sounds. And you know what? Many of them offer these sounds for FREE. And that's where we come in; that's where EAR FARM's Free Music Fridays can be of much service to you, the music lover. So come on and click through the following [...]
