"Lord, bid war's trumpet cease; Fold the whole earth in peace."
Today being Veteran's Day I won't write my usual blatterings; instead, I'm posting a bit about the day. Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day, and today's date was chosen for its symbolic significance. November 11 observed the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, which marked the armistice of World War I. RIP: Claude Stanley Choules
Claude Stanley Choules, the last living World War I combat veteran, passed away today in a nursing home in Perth, Australia. He was 110. He published his first book at the age of 108 (still time ya'll!), became a pacifist who refused to march in parades commemorating war and sounds like an all-around interesting man.

Video Premiere: "On Battleship Hill" by PJ Harvey
It seems like Polly Jean Harvey is going to release a music video for every track on her new album Let England Shake . According to Wikipedia: "After seeing Seamus Murphy's "A Darkness Visible" exhibition in London in 2008, Harvey contacted Murphy as she "wanted to speak to him more about his experiences being there in Afghanistan." The collaboration grew, with Murphy taking promotional photographs in July 2010 before filming accompanying videos for each song on the album." Related Articles Video: PJ Harvey [...]
