James Mercer and The Shins to release Port Of Morrow on March 20, their first album in six years. Now that we've had our first real viable candidate for arbitrary year-end lists, it's time to look at some other releases on the near horizon that hold that kind of potential. Since the world is supposed to end in May or something, we won't look beyond* that. Joining the excellent Cloud Nothings' Attack On Memory are anticipated releases from The Shins, Dirty Projectors, Sleigh Bells, Sharon [...]

The Wrens , who've been recording their Meadowlands follow-up (for real this time) for the past couple months (years?), took to facebook to unleash some gems such as "we're finishing up a total of 21 songs" and "91:48 minutes of music (not a misprint)". Great news! Now it seems their question is whether to go M83 style and create a double-album opus, or milk that creative output for 2 different albums. Full post below: Some news on the record – with whether it's good or bad depending on how comfortable your headphones [...]
New York's Expensive Looks has teamed once again with Silver Wren to release the duo's latest track "Hyperdrive." Sampling from their previous collaborative track, "Me & You," as well as chopped-up pieces from Natalie Imbruglia 's "Torn," the duo have created a new, hyper-dance track that does stray not too far from their roots in psych-pop and psych-folk. "It was fun to make," said Silver Wren frontman Ross Campbell. "Definitely outside of what I usually work on." As well as releasing the new track, Campbell stated that he will be completed [...]

Andrew Anderson ::: photo by Abbey Simmons Last week I shared a killer cover of November Rain by Prom Queen from the fourth Best of the New. Today here are videos from the other three talented performers who took the stage: Ben Fisher, Andrew Andersen and Le Wrens joined by their older brother Noah Gundersen. And [...]
Welcome to Monday Threesome , where we bring you three bands with a particular theme and direct you to their free music. This week, we have bedroom auteurs whose musical projects rose from the great tradition of musicians developing tracks on their own. These three bands, Happy Birthday (@happybirthdayz), Silver Wren and Duchess Leo (@duchessleo), may all be "bedroom pop", but they approach this personal style in very different ways. We hope you enjoy! [...]
Sunsettes are a Tampa-based duo specializing in funk-tinged indie-rock. Comprised of Nathan Kozyra and Michael Schlein, Sunsettes quietly released their debut Coup de Grace last December. Their compositions are frequently led by acoustics and keys, with Kozyra assuming a vocal delivery incorporating both stream-of-conscious narratives and straightforward romantic metaphors. Although the instrumental arsenal is mainly [...]

Does anyone remember Mr Benn? Emerging from 52 Festive Road to embark on an adventure in his new guise. As I vaguely recall, many of the Mr Benn tales had a strong moral undertone. Everything always turned out well if Mr Benn was there, with his kind and reassuring avuncular manner. Good old Mr Benn. Old things, gold things. Just like friends. Saw some goldies but goodies this week. Friends that see you through the good times, the fat times and the nobody loves me times. R&J, Big Sare, Bingley D, Polly Pocket and Movie Mate, you are [...]

We recently introduced to all you EARMILK readers to Ross Campbell, a musician who hails from Gainesville, Fla., and is also the voice behind his ambient Silver Wren solo project. As stated in our interview with the young artist, Campbell said he plans on writing his upcoming debut album on the theme "that reflects on the feeling of ending summer and the beginning of the fall." Although the album is currently under construction, Campbell recently released a two-track set, "Fall Sky" and "Winter's Hum," to reflect on the change in [...]

Tweet Um, excuse me? What's all this about? The last time I checked, Silver Wren was all about slow-paced introspection. I chucked on Ross's latest number expecting to lie back and relax, but before I knew it my head was nodding (not nodding off) and toes were tapping. I suppose he did warn me up front: he describes his latest two-track release as a "frenetic retreat from summer into stillness." It's a pretty fitting description. I'm not trying [...]

Download: Silver Wren - Estranger As a sophomore in college, I have only begun to grasp the idea of how many doors of opportunities are just waiting to be opened. Needing to get involved with at least one organization on campus, I recently took it upon myself to get involved with a university-affiliated campus newspaper in the arts and entertainment section for, you guessed it, music. Browsing through my emails one night, I stumbled upon a message from my editor informing the staff writers of upcoming pitches and [...]

Florida based Ross Campbell is Silver Wren and in March this year he was inspired to produce something experimental yet accessible. The result was the 'Window In The Wreath' EP (it's the compiled result of two-mini EP's he recorded in his bedroom over the summer). We've got a remix of the lead track to get you started: Silver Wren - 'Crystalline (Expensive Looks Remix)'

If you've been on this blog, you know I have a pretty broad range of music tastes. Generally, I post more indie and hip hop, but am no way afraid to post other types of music. I was pleasantly surprised by this entry for Unsigned Friday just on the opening of this artists EP. Had a very haunting, but psychedelic feel. This is some cool, honest music. Learn about Silver Wren below. Who: Ross, 20 year old songwriter, producer. I have an eclectic past with music, ranging from playing electric-guitar for the Hip Hop artist [...]

Tweet It's a rainy Saturday where I am, so what could be better than some ethereal psych-folk to pass the time? Luckily, Silver Wren is on hand to provide just that. The solo project of Gainsville, Florida-based Ross Campbell, Silver Wren started in March this year, and has already yielded two mini EPs. Ross has now taken the bulk of them, given it a bit of a polish, and released it as the five-track "Window In The Wreath". It's a pretty engrossing listen. [...]
When I came across Ian Cohen's post for Pitchfork's 15th anniversary feature and his selection of the Wrens ' "Everyone Choose Sides" as the song that meant most to him personally in 2003, it dawned upon me how many years its been since I'd listened to that Meadowlands album I loved so much that year. "Everyone Choose Sides" was my favorite track not just of the album, but probably of anything I heard in 2003, and I'm quite sure it's there on that year end mix cd I compiled with Brian. If only I could [...]
In the coming days/weeks you're going to hear a lot of people talk about Watch the Throne , the new joint album between rap's biggest names in 2011, Kanye West and Jay-Z. You're going to hear people talk about how great it is, how terrible it is, how ambitious it is, how boring it is, how whatever it is and how not whatever it is. You're going to hear a lot about how the record didn't leak, and how that affected sales and public perception and changed the way other artists might handle their [...]

Window In the Wreath by Silver Wren
