Photo: Samuel Gagnon It's about time we put together another mixtape. This one features some home-grown tracks that i have been listening to lately. Also, it's the perfect welcome home present for Dermott, who has had an extensive trip overseas.... without contacting me once. Thanks Derm. This mixtape features the likes of Nantes, Yolke, Danger Beach, Ross De Chene Hurricanes, Hammocks and Honey, Snakadaktal, I'lls', Electric Sea Spider, Maxy Bills and Chook Race. Special thanks go [...]

Now, I like my grunge, so I was always going to dig Japanese Voyeurs . Since they popped up on my radar a few years back, I've been following with interest but have yet to be blown away. Other bands who cite strong grunge influences (Nine Black Alps, Dead Confederate, Seether, Trapt, etc.) have stood up and delivered strong, gutsy music, but this London quintet have yet to do so. This, of course, is despite holding one massive not-so-secret weapon, vocalist/guitarist Romily Alice. If you've never heard her sing before, think "attitude of a teenager, voice of a toddler". [...]

July 12 2011 "We've got it together now," enthuses Steve Wilson, the hooded drummer of Japanese Voyeurs . "We can headline any show no problem." Japanese Voyeurs Sat next to him, front woman Romily Alice merely giggles nervously in response to this confident outburst. Finally, tonight is the band's chance to celebrate what they describe as the "birthing" of their debut album Yolk … released today, to be launched live in a matter of hours. Fast-forward [...]
Japanese Voyeurs have finally released their debut album, Yolk and it's a cracker. We've been egg-cited about it for ages so have a read and a listen.

Dead Ghosts poster by Ben Lyon We could make a clever quip about web sensation Rebecca Black's amusing teen jam "Friday," but Loud Loop Press doesn't care about that. We care about alerting you to the most kick-ass shows this weekend has to offer. Plus we totally couldn't think of any. I mean, it's Friday afternoon. We're half-way out the door already. Anyway, we've got the goods this week with some familiar and not-so-familiar faces. There's White Mystery at the Double Door; Streets on Fire at the Viaduct; Darling at the Hideout and much, [...]
It's difficult to do false endings in videos but by gum Japanese Voyeurs really, really manage it in their new video for 'Milk Teeth', which appears to have been shot using the Hipstamatic function. With band promo photos taken by celebrated grunge photographer, Steve Gullick and a video that apes the 90s scene so much, [...]

The headliner on the Petrillo stage at Taste Saturday is Gavin Rossdale . Once again, Taste tops itself for lameness. But on the Taste stage (the one with the big Illinois Lottery banner), it's Garage Rock day. Some local bands, including White Mystery , Mannequin Men and Lake Forest's very own the Yolks , promise to throw a real cave stomper. The headliner, White Mystery, is Alex White (fka Miss Alex White and the Red Orchestra) and her brother Francis. [...]

Florida's Dying culls together a super-sized smorgasbord of garage luminaries for a compilation that celebrates a time when the latest dance craze changed by the week. Plenty of RSTB archive fodder on this one including Nobunny, Hunx and The Yolks all crammed together in a blur of feet and hands in motion. Straight to the point - this album is a party starter full of garage grind and organ swells. There's no shortage of garage comps both new and old but its hard to find them this solid. The only short coming might be that the compilation is a little [...]

The Yolks (Myspace) Hometown: Chicago, Illinois Album: Self-Titled (Buy) Label: Unsigned The Yolks - Wandering Bookmark It [...]

Three wholesome reasons to get to the Empty Bottle tonight: 1. You are an ardent supporter of Chicago's underground music scene and tonight's show is Chicagoland from top to bottom. Or maybe you aren't, but you love what's happening in today's garage scene and tonight's show is garage heaven from top to bottom. Maybe you don't want me speaking for you but want to get out of your cold apartment. Any way you slice it you should head to the Bottle tonight. 2. Headliners, [...]

A l'instar des 2 MANY DJS, P2DJS dégome les tracks pour en faire du Picasso. Ici, ils remixent " Stop Working " de THE YOLKS. download : : Stop Working P2DJS rmx more details : http://www.myspace.com/p2djs

Stop Working - The Yolks

The air is crisp but as the summer winds down there's still more time for more 60's pocked garage. Keeping things breezy and decidedly easy, Chicago's frayed and frazzled Yolks fall right along the current Shattered/Goner garage fuzzfest that's kept the last year lo-fi and unbearably fun. Round up the usual three chord suspects and dash a bit of brash pop, a freckled tumble of organ and the recipe seems pretty much set for jangled bliss. From chord one its hard to sit still while the Yolks are on the scene. Shirts are sweated, sole's are worn thin and [...]

The Yolks The Yolks (2009, Randy Records) RIYL = The Fresh & Onlys, The Strokes, Nodzzz Simplicity can be a risky business. On the one hand, the simplification of chords and instrumentation brought us much of the glorious pop music that started gaining momentum in the momentous sixties. The Zombies, The Who, The Velvet Underground (you know the list): They sifted gold through the most remedial means. On the other hand, the paring down of instrumental and compositional elements of a given band can also quickly reveal how truly uninspired they are when it [...]

The Yolks - "Wandering" here at b3sci, we love chicago and quite right we also love rock and roll, and third we love to get down. so using that scale lets see how the yolks stack up... the yolks are a three piece band from chicago (+1). the yolks play some great fuckin' rock and roll (+2). and "wandering" is just one of the many tunes on the band's self-titled LP we can seriously get down to . (+3) the yolks on myspace rating: 8.5

A selection of nine songs for your long weekend delectation. Enjoy. The Very Best's debut album Warm Heart of Africa is out on the 11th of August and while it's perhaps not as exciting as the mixtape last year, these remixes of the title track which features Ezra from Vampire Weekend are making up for it right now. The Architecture in Helsinki remix is essentially a cover with brass replacing the original's African guitar sample. It's awesome. The Metronomy is equally different taking the a snippet [...]

Still haven't gotten the whole "podcast" perfected yet. But, no worries, I'll keep to my word. Can't say it's the most eventful weekend (show-wise), unless you're just dying to make it to that New Kids on the Block bash tonight (seriously, this is not some lame ass joke). Here's a slight recap of the week and (as always) a few extra I couldn't let slide. Spectrals - Leave Me Be Javelin - Vibrationz Thee Oh Sees - Meat Step Lively [...]

Ahh, what a week! Aside from the week-o-shows (most of which I was unable to go to), I've been getting some great new tunes from random bands I've been talking with. By the way, the Animal Collective show last night was their best performance I've seen by far. I guess the third time's a charm. If they are within a 200 mile radius of your barrio, do yourself a huge favor and see them. Enjoy this week's mixtape, and your weekend! The Yolks - I Do What I Do Liechtenstein - Roses [...]
