Today's a truly magical occurrence when all the stars align in order to give you the creeps all day long: Friday the 13th. While many of us are filled with dread about the bad luck that could come our way, and the virgins of the world are fearing getting lost in the woods near an abandoned summer camp, the 13th doesn't have to be so scary (at least while the sun is up). So, to get you through this most diabolical of days, we've assembled some non-frightening tunes to scare away the Boogeyman. Our newest Friday Mixtape features new music [...]

Roanoke, Virginia's The Young Sinclairs first appeared in the pages of PARASITES & SYCOPHANTS over three years ago. The band is back and set to release their new odds and ends digital LP "Don't Believe In Demos Vol. 13 (Planting Seeds Records). Sinclairs vocalist/guitarist/primary songwriter Samuel Lunsford sat down with P&S for a detailed look at his musical beginnings: the formation of his 602s psych/indie band & Virginia based collective – the Magic Twig Community –to highly successful tours with The Brian Jonestown Massacre & The Lovetones - to last summer's sudden mental breakdown. [...]

They say today is gonna be this year's warmest day so far, with temperatures well above mid summer average. So, to cool things off before they get too sticky let's turn to this brand new tune by Roanoke, Virginia quintet The Young Sinclairs . Their cover version of the Merle Haggard classic Running Kind is all nice and easy, slightly psychedelic folk, the perfect summery breeze just in time for the arrival of the happy season. The Young Sinclairs' digital album Don't Believe In Demos Vol. 1 is out today via [...]

Looking at the lists from the indie cognoscenti this year my eyes tend to get heavy and it becomes hard to stay awake. I'm beginning to see why my grandfather wasn't able to stay awake when he watched the Dukes of Hazzard with me when I was a kid. I'm not quite to that point yet, as I was able to keep myself lucid long enough to compile my top 25 albums of the year. Have at it. 1. Eddy [...]
I love doing year end roundup coverage and I'm still waiting to put up the bands to watch list, so I thought we'd highlight some of the great bands we discovered over the past year. Some of them made our 2011 bands to watch list, some of them didn't, some of them aren't even NEW [...]

After you're done eating Turkey leftovers on Saturday, head over to Poe's Pub to check out rockers Long Arms perform with Maki . The Young Sinclairs were supposed to join them but unfortunately had to cancel. However, it looks like Jon and Kevin from rock band Horsehead are going to kick things off. Long Arms has become one of my favorite groups to get my attention in the last year. If you [...]

My lovely pal Matt from my favorite Virginia garage pop label Funny / Not Funny Records has sent me a mail this morning to call my attention to his little imprint's brand new Fall 2010 Mix Tape , a collection of 13 unreleased tracks as well as songs from current and forthcoming F/NF releases, among the featured artists being ex- Titus Andronicus member Andrew Cedermark , Matt Leech himself with his beautifully distorted psychedelic pop, and the 60s infused jangling Young Sinclairs who we had on these pages earlier this [...]
Ah, g'day, Joel. You've lost your what? Sloooower, mate. No way. Calm down, it'll turn up, no worries. Of course Matt doesn't have it. How could you even think such a thing? He doesn't bloody have it, mkay? When did you last see it? 2006???? And you just now noticed? That was a pretty hectic week and I'm glad it was over. That's why I didn't write a lot this week but did make a mixtape. That's because a real man would not run away from his obligation and make a weekly mixtape. Yes, that's what real men do. STR Mixtape : Fancy That (Download) 1. John [...]

![The Young Sinclairs: We Spoke Our Minds EP [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2652055_lg.jpg)
After only a few short months, The Young Sinclairs return with We Spoke Our Minds EP . Chiming in at four songs and just under 10 minutes, the new EP again references the band's predilection toward 60s psychedelic pop and folk artists like The Byrds, and their love of adding in more modern roots like those found on early Essex Green records. Listening to title track "We Spoke Our Minds" and track 3 "Girl I'm For Real", don't be embarrassed if you have to look back to their recent Songs [...]

The new Young Sinclairs is like a paisley slice of Forever Changes cake, an overgrowth of kudzu Murmers, a play where the characters are wearing Their Satanic Majesties Request wizard costumes, a Blurred Crusade to an Unguarded Moment, an Emergency Third Rail Power Trip, a Lolita Nation and a Clue leading to Megan's bed. Did the Roanoke, Virgina band record this in Mitch Easter's Drive-In Studio 25 years ago? No. For all intents and purposes the Young Sinclairs are a one man band on record and the one man is Sam Lunsford. [...]

They've already been featured in the last edition of the NFOP Radio show , but now their label Planting Seeds Records has kindly dragged our attention to The Young Sinclairs ' new EP We Spoke Our Minds , out July 20 on CD and limited edition 7 inch vinyl. The discs include four songs, while the accompanying digital download will add two bonus tracks (the already featured beautiful Forever After among them). The Roanoke, Virginia quintet surfs heavily on the 60s jangle-pop wave (think [...]

Två låtar från den kommer nedan The Young Sinclairs - Up against the wall The Young Sinclairs - They're not writing

The Young Sinclairs have popped up in the annals of Impose before, and as a five-year old running project they're no spring chickens, but here's to getting to know them. This post would be a cross-comparison between some tracks off the Beatles' early tapes and this newish song by the Raleigh's five-piece, but we all know that every time you share a Beatles mp3 the ghost of Brian Epstein personally comes to your door to serve up a RIAA lawsuit. So let's just settle on the powers of o...

There's a lot of nostalgia going around these days. I think it's partially because we-"we" meaning "us youngins'"-have to prove we're cooler than every previous generation by relive the musical movements they grew up with. Listening to bands like Music Go Music makes me think of watching a play or some kind of war reenactment. This band does that to me, too. They're dubbed the Young Sinclairs, and they've got a bundle of releases coming out this year: a cassette via FunnyNotFunny , an EP via Planting Seeds , and [...]
