The other day I was wondering what ever happened to Liverpool songstress Candie Payne. Following the release of her impressive debut record I Wish I Could Have Loved You More, things went quiet. It was strange really because both the album and her vocal talents deserved much more notoriety. Toward the end 2010 Payne teamed up Zuton's [...]
A look back at some of Amy Winehouse's most notable cover songs.
Filed under: News Mark Venema, Getty Images We're all aware that English rock bands enjoy rivalries almost as much as American rappers, but there's no such drama between Elbow and Everything Everything . That said, Elbow's Pete Turner (pictured) did, in fact, knock a tooth out of the mouth of Everything Everything's Jeremy Pritchard this week. No joke. But, also -- no worries. NME reports that the two friends went to [...]

The Zutons - Confusion Where have you gone, my Zutons? Where have you been? What might you have seen? "From day one I led you on." Oh, man and your reputable wit. You failed charmer. Pritchard's double-bass - one quarter of a band so usually drowning in pep - is slavish to the emollience of the song's tearaway from harshness, certainly as a fighter to the vocal severity of one Even McCabe, a voice prone to a Liverpudlian laden accent that just about avoids creasing (or staining) the almost [...]

'Hey, Hey Moonshine' By Bird. Two tunes today, both from my home town of Liverpool . First up is Bird a new Liverpool based band fronted by 22 year old Adele Emmas. They have already recorded their debut EP which will be released later this year. On the basis of the demos we've heard so far they look set for a big future. Think of an eerie folktronic Portishead wandering through laughing Lenny Cohen's nightmares as depicted by René Magritte. Haunting, evocative, beautiful. No jokes about Liver Birds [...]
Glee club is supposed to be about camaraderie. They've gone on about this episode after episode, about how everyone is talented and special...and yet we never hear Rachel shut up, or have her and Finn sing the solos. But this episode of Glee was different. Oh, it was different, and in a very good way. Will actually called Rachel out on her shit and told her to shut the hell up. Excuse me while I do a little dance. This was too much of a long time coming. In that [...]
Cover Me looks at the songs from Glee's annual sectionals episode "Special Education," including tracks from Train, Amy Winehouse, Florence and the Machine and, somehow, Mike and the Mechanics.

For those Glee (k) fans. [Like it or not] The November 30th episode which is the "Sectionals" competition will feature these two songs. Prefer the original but for those wondering how Glee's version sounds like. Listen to Dog Days Are Over (original by Florence + The Machine) and Valerie (Going by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse, original by The Zutons)

If you're a fan of Cee-Lo Green's song, "F**k You", then you're in luck. Gwyneth Paltrow will be performing the hit song on an upcoming episode of "Glee". She's likely to put her own countrified spin on it, but we'll see what she comes up with. (We'll take what we can get...and if it's bad, we'll make fun of it.) The track listing for the fourth soundtrack to "Glee" is out and it [...]

T he Zutons - Dirty Dancehall I hope tonights Halloween party sounds / feels like this Zuton track. I've already got my dance moves figured out in case it does, and my exit strategy planned if it doesn't. I just need to sort out a costume, as dressing as a lady only seems to attract creeps. Happy Hallows Eve.
As part of the sentence for headbutting a bloke in the street, The Zuton's Dave McCabe has been ordered to pay his victim £1,500 . The Independent had clearly been scanning album sleeves for appropriate songs: The star - whose songs include Calm Me Down and Havana Gang Brawl - had attended his mother's 60th birthday party earlier in the evening. I bet they were disappointed that he'd never done a song called Drunken Mistake. Perhaps for the next album, eh? [Thanks to Michael M] -- Visit No Rock & Roll [...]

Mis-Teeq 's Alesha Dixon continues to impress me as promotion for her new single, " Drummer Boy " gets underway. The single which started out as a cluttered, noisy mess of percussion and shouting has turned into pop magic before my very ears. I honestly don't know what happened. Perhaps I've beaten myself over the head enough times? Whatever the reason is, I now find myself shimmying and shaking along screaming out the lyrics. Not a pretty sight. TRUST ME. [...]
