Zydepunks in town this weekend New Orleans's Zydepunks finaly bring their punked up Cajun French Creole and Yiddish grooves back to the Bay Area for the first time in 3 years. Their last album, Finisterre, made NHT's Top 20 last year so you know I've been looking forward to this. Get out to see them at the Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco Friday or the Starry Plough in Berkeley on Saturday. New Release: The Zydepunks - Finisterre From the beginning, the bend in the mighty Mississippi river known as New Orleans has been a place of trade and inter-cultural exchange. The Zydepunks take this intermingling of cultures to an extreme. The Zydepunks are "New Orleans' favorite Cajun Irish Breton Klezmer Slavic Zydeco Punk band." The Zydepunks: Finisterre The Zydepunks twist, warp, and amplify Cajun music in the same way that Celtic Punk bands like Dropkick Murphys transform traditional Irish tunes into punk-rock. The multi-lingual New Orleans band churn folk, Irish, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, and Yiddish elements into their whirlwind of punked up Zydeco. Finisterre will be released on October 21st.
