Facebook / bbblouse.bandcamp.com/ We might be heading towards the run-in as far as 2011 releases go and soon, no doubt, we'll be faced with the usual annual barrage of 'best of lists' (this blog will be no different), but the year, which I think has been a fabulous one for new music, still holds a few aces up its sleeves, one of them is the self-titled debut LP by Portland's Blouse which is released November 1st (US) / 7th (UK). I've been following Blouse since they put the hypnotic "Into [...]

I only ask the question because it came up in conversation in the pub recently. I was chatting to a relatively young friend of mine who was saying that he was drifting away from new music a little because when the newer musical fads - chillwave and lo-fi, for example - have emerged, instead of really getting into them, he's been exploring backwards to the stuff which inspired them in the first place. This is a way of looking at it that I find really interesting, not least because I do the exact opposite. When it was all [...]

Shoegaze is about to get a reboot thanks to Captured Tracks. The label is dipping into their shoegaze archives and fishing out a whole load of reissues. First up are Should's early 90s album A Folding Sieve , and deardarkhead's Oceanside 1991 – 1993 , both of which will materialise on December 5. You can listen to tracks from both of the below.

Blouse are getting ready to drop their self-titled album. The Portland band are releasing their debut effort on November 7, and you can listen to Time Travel, which is taken from the album, below. If they did indeed time travel to get inspiration for the song, then you can rest assured they started their journey in Gary Numan's basement. Enjoy.

Suave art popper Oliver Woolf, otherwise known as Othello Woolf, has got his debut album racked up and ready to roll. It's out on September 5 and you can listen to a track from it below.
Othello Woolf (Oliver Woolf) releases his debut album next month, and the first taster from it is 'Scared of Love', which you can hear above. I guess the clue is in the title with this one, as Woolf presents us with a 'love song' (sort of) that sounds like it's been lifted straight from the 80's, but with a definite 90's RnB flavour thrown in for good measure. Have a listen, then go see him play at the Social (London) this Friday.

There's no doubt in our minds that the best way to commemorate the life of comedy legend John Candy is to listen to this track by Glasgow's Remember Remember (you could also watch 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles', 'Cool Runnings', 'Brewster's Millions', and 'Uncle Buck'). The song – called 'John Candy' in case you hadn't realised – is the closing track of the band's new album, 'The Quickening', which is out on September 26 through Rock Action Records.
Third in the series of our new weekly feature which takes a look at some of our favourite songs of the week. Lot's of good stuff this week so sit back and enjoy that Friday buzz while relaxing in the GFP Stream Room… Remember Remember - John Candy Back with their first album since 20082s wonderful self-titled debut record, the ever-brilliant Remember Remember have released the first taster from The Quickening, which is set for release on 26th September via Rock Action [...]

Remember Remember are set to release their new album, The Quickening , on September 26th through Rock Action, and to get you in the mood for its release they've unveiled the radio edit for 'John Candy'. Often or not instrumental music gets bogged down in seriousness, but 'John Candy' is a wonderfully fun track that you can actually groove to. Wow. Summer instrumental jam? Yeah, we're down with that.

I should probably start this all off by going on record stating that I'm not completely into this whole "slacker" aesthetic that Wavves, Best Coast, and all that have created… It might be quite naively attractive and nostalgically childish to pretend to do nothing all day except having very chilled-out sex and smoking weed, but it's also a load of bollocks. They might have enough knock-off Ray Bans to try to constantly make it appear otherwise, but they're very hard working musicians, and the net result of their hard work is basically that everybody thinks that it's very cool to [...]

Total Slacker's new album, 'Thrashin', is due out on September 26 and we've got the opening track for you. 'Psychic Mesa' is a chugging piece of acid-flecked psych-rock, complete with huge riffs.
