Brighton label Faux Discx have just announced the release of a Canada/ UK split 73 for early January 2011. The 73 will feature a brand new track by Women called "Bullfight" as well as a contribution from Friendo (featuring Michael of Women) in the shape of "Pass Times". Is there a genre called summer punk yet? That's just one new genre that Fair Ohs could create. A trio from London, their sound is a paella of influences. As well as the tropical anger of Hey Lizzy, there's soweto rhythms out of Africa, shouty beats apparently reminiscent of French yé-yé pop, soul-focused horns, and blissed-out Bridget Bardot covers that scream soleil. I'm tempted to label them London's version of Fool's Gold, but there's generally a bit more rock grunt going down. They are just a compilation of songs I've been enjoying since the leaves started turning. Grizzly Bear (feat. Michael McDonald) - "While You Wait for the Others" ; Last we saw Michael McDonald he was tormenting the staff at SmartTech in The 40-Year-Old Virgin . Thee Fair Ohs are a UK trio who seem to be into puns. Judging from "Summer Lake," they're not into wasting time. After lulling us with a 25-second drum roll, tambourine, and pretty arpeggios, they barrel into one of the most immediate (and addictive) summer anthems we've heard in a while. It's all over in under 3-minutes. Their off-kilter tropical post-punk energy's reminiscent of Abe Vigoda.
