The Boston Arms , Tufnell Park, London hosts the `Dirty Water Rec ords` one-day, all-day, all-night festival on the 20th of this month. A multi-band Alt-Garage frenzy with guest DJ`s to kick you into the very early hours. As of last press, pre-order tickets are still available to purchase directly and a small number will be on sale that day at the venue. We still think cramming a large number of Garage heads with an unlimited supply of Vox induced fuzz can only lead to major psychosis. 16:00 - The [...]
Thee Vicars - Feel So Good I think these dudes would be pretty rad to see live. They've got a great throwback garage sound.
Thee Vicars hail from a small town in England called Bury St. Edmunds. I was taken aback when I learned how young these guys are, especially since their sound is so authentic. They've already laid some serious ground work with worldwide touring and more than six recordings under their belts. Impressive! They've obviously done their homework, taking mid-'60s garage and beat cues from the likes of The Remains and The Kinks. These irresistible lads are also giving all the mod girls something to gush about. I caught them at a really fun show at Cameo in Brooklyn with [...]

Hailing from the other side of the pond, Thee Vicars strip music down to its raw essentials and the result is grainy and highly animated melodies that induce spastic head bopping and the urge to run wild in the streets. Short but memorable songs will abound when Thee Vicars rips through O'Brien's Pub tomorrow for a night of rock 'n' roll thrashing. They'll be playing second alongside Thick Shakes and Pirate Love , probably around 10pm. Below is one of their trademark songs from the 2008 LP of the same name: [...]
Photo Credit Sterling Andrews @ Shutterface Photography "The band decided to spend 2010 putting out a stream of singles. Singer/bassist Matthew Stolarz was the original bassist of The Briggs (who are a fairly well known anthemic punk rock band, on SideOne Dummy records) yet he left and formed the Active Set, which is something quite different. Here he shares his story of leaving and starting from scratch". The Active Set`s subtly poetic new wave focus, a [...]

SXSW. De lo que nos salvamos. Pero [...]

Yesterday we posted a preview of over 180 bands that we feel are worth checking out at South by Southwest. Today we focus on 25 artists that are among the best of the 2000+ participating bands at SXSW. The futures of these bands are bright, and we certainly recommend seeing them play at least once during the festival in Austin this weekend. In February last year we introduced you to '60s-nostalgo-four piece Thee Vicars . Over the course of the odd year that's followed, the band have racked up gigs in the triple figures, set up a record label and released their second record. So it's about time we caught up with them. As a very standard opener...tell us a bit about yourselves. I'm Mike, i play bass and scream and shout. I started the band along with Marcus about 2 and a half years ago, I'm 20 [...]

Thee Vicars were the first act we saw in this year's Scion Garage Fest in Portland Oregon. They were already into their short set but what we saw was really nice. They were like a blast from the past with their beatle-esh haircuts and smartly dressed outfits. They have a fuzzy rock style that is reminiscent of bands from 60s like the Sonics. Thee Vicars are a four piece Garage Rock band who reign from Bury St Edmunds in the UK. However, they dont' [...]

Off Modern , in collaboration with Too Pure Singles , Kruger, FACT , No Pain in Pop , Holy Roar and Backyard Records , presents 7 days of visual and aural stimuli at the upcoming SOUTH EAST IN EAST festival of music and art, showcasing new talent from South East and East London. It all pops off Friday 28 August through Thursday 3 September at Vibe Bar, Brick Lane. By the looks of this stellar line-up, there should be no hesitation, what-so-ever, to attend!! Since we love a good event, [...]

Thee Vicars are a super-cool quartet from Bury St Edmonds who look back lovingly to garage of the 60s when creating their raw and freakbeat sounds. While attending the gig of a run of the mill indie band, Thee Vicars decided they were "sick of everyone sounding the same". From there onwards, the band set out upon a mission to bring bona fide rock and roll to the masses. Thee Vicars state Billy Childish, early Stones and The Mummies as just some of their influences. They can sound like everyone from The Sonics to the [...]
