After a six year hiatus, the bay area hip-hop duo Themselves (Doseone and Jel) are bursting back onto the scene in 2009. Being the main staple of the Anticon label, it probably isn't a coincidence that all of this is happening in the same year as Anticon's 10th year anniversary. To start things off, Themselves will be hitting up a bunch of festivals including South By Southwest and Coachella. Come next week, the acclaimed hip-hop will officially kick off a year that currently includes plans for a new studio album, mixtape, and slew of high-profile tour dates. i went through a phase of being really into themselves and the whole anticon thing, and some of the records i still think are pretty amazing. but somehow themselves no longer cut it for me. and i think a lot of that is the sheer density of their songs, whether it's the convoluted theatrics of the lyrics or the dislocated beats. i'm only a fairweather at best hip hop listener, something i turn to satisfy cravings for heavy bass rhythms and good tunes, good times. and themselves take work . their contribution to this split picture disc [...]

anticon artist Sole , known to his parents as Tim Holland, will release Sole and the Skyrider Band , his first album recorded entirely with a live band on Oct. 23. Although Sole's last full length came out well over 2 years ago, the rapper has kept busy touring and also playing under his alias 'mansbestfriend'. Sole meet the Orlando based three-piece Skyrider after returning home from living abroad.
