A List of EPs I Listened To A Lot in 2011 I know that title is a cop out, but I can’t say these are my only favorite EPs of 2011, because it just doesn’t work that like. My musical favorites don’t reset when the clock strikes midnight and the earth gets a year older. Nor do I get through all the music I had hoped to listen to within the confines of Western Civ’s lunar calendar. Like I’ve said a million times before, you can’t read the entire internet, nor should you. [...]
Tweet vaso link Fantasy Island is a duo comprised of the main part of Therapies Son, Alex Jacob, plus a cohort from Los Angeles named Spencer Frazen. If you're familiar with his other work in Therapies Son, you'll notice the similarities here.
Fantasy Island Avenue Single + Breaking A Heart Video Being a little late to the game when it comes to Chatsworth, California project Fantasy Island , I am just starting to dig into their creative genius. I had seen the name Fantasy Island drifting through the blogosphere before, but then again there are so many magical fantasies, filled with islands of teens and the youth, blissing about the netz right now, it’s hard to keep them straight. But when someone hits you up on Facebook, you listen. Actually [...]

Remember when we spoke about Californian whizz kid Therapies Son back way back in March ? Good yeah? Well as 2k11 has progressed, the brainchild behind that certain venture has moved onto a new jaunt as tripped out avant garde act Fantasy Island . continue reading >>
We were busy moving on Sunday and didn't get to post these songs, but we think that the temporal displacement has aged them to perfection. (Who knew they only required an additional 24 hours in our oak barrels?) In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Monday Sampler offers a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. Less talk, more tunes. It's taken more time than usual, but it's finally ready... Blogophilia 28 represents tracks compiled from April through mid May, and was rendered down while finishing work in U.S., and traveling to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. That stated, the only real excuse for its delay is that I was pretty busy. Look for 29 soon! This is a mix where nearly all of the artists are new to the Blogophilia series. The only returnees are Vetiver and Starfucker. It's hard to believe we never had a Sebadoh track. Enjoy! Blogophilia 28 Promotional MP3s collected from blogs [...]
It's almost hard to believe that it is summer here in northern California and the Pacific Northwest, because it has been unusually cool, and even rained (which almost never happens in the Bay Area during summer). One of the best things about summer is taking trips to the beach. We're blessed with being only a [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
It's almost hard to believe that it is summer here in northern California and the Pacific Northwest over the past week. But the unusually cooler temperatures, and even rain (which is almost non-existent in California in summer). Nevertheless, the rest of the country is enjoying the summer, and it'll soon be returning to these parts. [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Kids these days seem to be far more proactive than I used be during my lazy teenage years. Take Therapies Son for example; a 19 year old dude from California who so happens to make some very dreamy and multi-layered pop music. He has released a 5-track EP called Over The Sea and it’s well worth your precious time. The song Touching Down is most probably the highlight and features some delicate vocals over a looped piano beat that slowly drifts into chillwave heaven. [...]
Therapies Son sent over a new song titled Destiny , which is a b-side of his lovely debut EP Over The Sea which Transparent released back in March (you should definitely check it out in case you somehow missed that). Alex shows us his more soft and romantic yet bruised side (very Perfume Genius’esque) on the lo-fi ballad Destiny , a side of him I’m hoping to see more in the future.

So apparently the Rapture has been scheduled for May 21 . This is good to know as it gives me a chance to throw together a quick playlist for the ascension. I figure six songs should about do it. Can we really know? And it begs the question, did they pay for a whole year of service for that domain name? [...]
I threatened the other day to start titling my posts after particularly inscrutable, obscene or otherwise notable spam found in our comments. Well, Aaron, I'm making good on my threat. The full text of the comment from whence hails today's title was "I just want to thrash around it is a wine glass." What they [Read Full Post...]
It's spring, and time for the Sounds of Spring mixtape for this week's Sunday 25 Mix. We spent some time picking the songs for this mix that consists of mostly indie, but some classic rock, music as well. There are a fair amount of tracks that are all or mostly instrumental, including songs from Animal [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Therapies Son quickly won fans last fall when his humbly self-recorded demo of shimmering pop surfaced, catching the ears of some elite press and becoming something of an Internet sensation. Therapies Son , the nom de tune of 19-year-old Van Nuys, CA songwriter Alex Jacob makes its official debut this weekend with a 5-track EP, Over The Sea via Jacob's management's label, Sargent House . The EP's North American vinyl release is in conjunction with Record Store Day , April 16th. [...]
It's sort of astonishing that Therapies Son consists only of 19-year old Alex Jacob. When you hear the Antlers-esque vocals, it sounds like a far more weathered singer. And the music here sounds like trippy 602s pop filtered through dreamy chillwave grooves. Throughout his six-song Over The Sea EP, Jacob shows the listener he's an expert [...]

I've been really vibing on this new Therapies Son EP called Over The Sea . It's got some strong Lennon tendencies, some hints of Bowie circa Hunky Dory and some sunshiny, orch-pop melodies just that are just calling for long rides with the windows down. Download: Touching Down - Therapies Son

So technically Therapies Son , Over The Sea , has been out for like a month... buuuut not if you live in the good ole US of A. It was released here on RSD day ( yes I am going to flog RSD until next April thank you very much or we need Cassette Store Day to happen soon) via Sargent House . Of course we have been all over for 2000 blog years (that is about 4 months in real time) when we posted a track here . When I first heard that [...]

Mp3: Therapies Son. Touching Down
