"Growing up on an island in Sweden, I bought my first LP in one of those country stores that has a little bit of everything... you know... milk, eggs, electronics, fishing gear, ladies underwear, t-shirts, socks—and records! I bought the sound track to Dirty Dancing, insanely romantic." "These days I live in New Orleans where we have several awesome record stores. There is one in particular besides the obvious spots such as Louisiana Music Factory and Bayou Records that I love. It is disguised as a bookstore on Decatur street just down [...]

The first thing that popped into my head when I heard 'Fiya's Gone' was the Van Allen Belt. On closer inspection and the reality that Theresa Andersson is actually from Sweden and not Pittsburgh meant that those early illusions were vaporised. But the comparison is valid as this song has a singular vision that cares little for faddish trends and contemporary styling. A little investigation reveals that Andersson looks to Jazz's finest for inspiration even if this could well have drifted out of a Motown studio several decades ago. It's taken from Andersson's latest LP 'Street Parade'. KD [...]

Theresa Andersson takes you on a fever dream journey through New Orleans in her latest video, "Street Parade."
Last Saturday at the Mission Theater, Theresa Andersson premiered her new video for "Street Parade," and while it was shot in Andersson's hometown of New Orleans, it was directed by Portland director Alicia J. Rose . As you can see above, it bears Rose's trademark, dreamy style, aided in no small part by the filming location: the constructed artist shantytown of sorts that's called the Music Box—the village was built by artists and inventors from salvaged material, and it's actually about to be dismantled, meaning that the video captures the place before it disappears into the ether [...]

Theresa Andersson breaks down the sounds of a New Orleans parade and reconstructs them into wonderfully idiosyncratic, introspective pop. No beads or revelry required. In the moment, parades are simple things. Largely unconcerned with subtlety, they make their case with brute force: You will celebrate, and you will like it! But in the aftermath, there's time to reflect. According to singer-songwriter/multi-instru mentalist Theresa Andersson, Street Parade was inspired by a particularly potent, possibility-laden stillness she felt after a 2010 Mardi Gras celebration. Fittingly, the album suggests a busy, free-associating mind littered with remnants of recent echoic memory, decontextualized and sculpted...
