For a technological dinosaur, the book-publishing industry is having a stellar political season. The bloggers may type the night away, but it is good old-fashioned book-writers who are driving the political debate. And nobody more so than Barack Obama . The junior senator from Illinois has deftly used the publication of his new bookâ€"“The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Recla iming the American Dream†(Crown)â€"to stir up a frenzy about a possible presidential run. In recent weeks, he had already made the covers of two [...]

These Arms are Snakes have a brand new album, Easter, out today. We have actually been carrying the vinyl version of the album from Second Nature for close to 2 weeks, but the CD and digital versions are out today. Jade Tree has been so kind as to host a stream of the entire album as well as an mp3 from the album. These Arms are Snakes are just one of those bands that you listen to and see live and you just wonder, why isn't this band bigger than they [...]

Quite a few art-punk records seem to be garnering acclaim for 2006; of course, we have Liars ' Drum's Not Dead , and Cinemechanica 's The Martial Arts has proven to be an undiscovered gem. And now we have These Arms Are Snakes ' new release, Easter , which is getting significant buzz within the indie community. This is an album that combines the anthemic bliss of 70's stoner-metal with a Gang of Four-esque musicality. The album itself has a very broad sound: juggling synths, guitar scales, and hardcore percussion [...]
These Arms Are Snakes are working on their second full length record for Jade Tree. It's called Easter and hits stores September 26th. TAAS bassist/keyboardist Brian Cook says the new disc has "an underlying theme of religion, the desert, and ghosts." Besides releasing the new record, the band is gearing up for a fall tour. Meanwhile, you can sample "Horse Girl" here.

With all of the media hype for the movie Snake’s on a Plane, it compelled me to write about the Seattle based band, These Arms Are Snakes . I guess it is the whole snakes theme. I can hear Samual Jackson now, “These Arms Are Motherfuckin’ Snakes!†The band was formed by members of the bands Botch, Nineironspitfire and Minneapolis-based Kill Sadie, with Harkonen drummer Chris Common joining after the recording of Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home. They have toured the U.S.A. with such notable bands as [...]
These Arms Are Snakes- Crazy Woman, Dirty Train- Perpetual Bris-Horse Girl-Lady NorthIs the theme to stick with rad bands from Seattle? Because if that's the case I shall continue on with it. These Arms Are Snakes fucking destrooooooooyyyyeeeee. That might be what they were born to do. That and screaming while hanging from rafters while like 4 strobe lights give audiences epileptic seizures. They

While writing my earlier post on Panda & Angel , I came across today's track from labelmates, These Arms Are Snakes. I've been a fan of TAAS since their 2004 release Oxeneers or The Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home , and was pleasantly surprised to see that they have a new album, Easter , due out in August. I can't say that Oxeneers is my favorite album, but it's a good one to shuffle in every once in a while when I'm the mood for a few tracks of [...]
Narrows may be new kids on the block to the hardcore and metal scene, but the band's individual members have been paying their dues for a long time. The band features members of Botch, These Arms Are Snakes, Some Girls and more among its ranks, and they have finally put together a music video for "Gypsy Kids" from their debut album New Distances with some handicams, iMovie, and a little bit of elbow grease. Obviously not for the faint of heart or weak-minded, I'd say the combination of sobering artistry, epic heaviness, super awesome guitar production, and [...]
