Sunday nights are made for cover songs! Well this one is I guess, as I'm sharing this Chris Isaak cover from T.O. electronic-rock outfit These Electric Lives. I've been a fan of TEL's for a while , but I wasn't sure how'd I'd feel about them taking on such a mellow, well-known jam. But they put their own spin on it, as one does when doing a cover, and the results are pretty enjoyable. MP3:: These Electric Lives - Wicked Game Web:: www.theseelectriclives.com

Tweet vaso link A quick trip around Hype Machine reveals no less than a dozen different artists covering Chris Isaak's seminal "Wicked Game." That doesn't include Rochester's own Old Tapes, who gave the track a nice gender twist on their EP from this past fall, and there are certainly more to be found that aren't aggregated at the moment. Some might consider that proof of the homogenous nature of the indie rock scene, but I'd chalk it up to the [...]

GUYS, WE'RE NOT GOING TO MAKE IT! HPX 2011 is next week, and I'm afraid we've fallen short in our attempt to post a song from every aoutfit playing the fest this year, but we've made a pretty sizeable dent in the list (sorry to those we didn't get posted, our bad, we tried!). So here's one last kick at the can, another jumbo list of jams from bands playing in Halifax next week, so if you like something you hear below, check the schedule and go see them play! [...]
Frenetic Toronto post-punk band These Electric Lives return home from a tour of Ireland and Great Britain with a performance at NXNE. They even have a promo video for it: NXNE performance: Date: Jun 18 Time: 1:00am Venue: Cherry Cola's These Electric Lives' website

Toronto – In my books, it's not truly a music festival in Toronto until I've been to either the Horseshoe or the El Mocambo. The only exception to this rule is the Toronto Jazz Festival. In which case it's not truly a jazz festival until I've been inside that tent with the chandeliers at Nathan Phillips Square, or the Rex. With this in mind, I figured that the El Mo was a good place to start Saturday evening. The first band on my agenda was These Electric Lives , a Toronto-based band that plays rock, alternative [...]

Toronto - In a stunning example of Allison's proposed motto, "woefully unprepared amateurs," for our CMW coverage, not only did I go see a band that Paul had seen and reviewed just two nights earlier , but Mark and I unwittingly ended up at the same venue, then hung out and watched four bands together during the 2 + 2 Management Showcase at El Mocambo on Saturday night. Widespread coverage! Anyway, since Mark is going to take on These Electric Lives and the train wreck that was Piper Davis's set, here are reviews of three of the [...]
Sports ( MySpace ) are a local band hoping to make it big, having opened for such blog favorites as Stars and Ra Ra Riot. The five-piece's music draws easy comparisons to Elvis Costello & The Attractions. They mesh jumpy pre-punk with harmony and keyboards into an agile, sweaty set. The songs aren't flowery or drawn out; the longest track on their self-titled debut clocks in at three-and-a-half minutes. Not that they need to be: the band writes great pop songs, and they allow them to speak on their own without dressing them up in extended [...]

Here we go again: talking about These Electric Lives. Before this past Saturday's show, the band went over to WBER (The only station that matters) for an interview. While the interview ended up being a bit long for a band that, to this point, has only two EPs to their name, it was still interesting [...]
If you hadn't yet realized, we like These Electric Lives. Not only are we privileged to consider them friends, but they are a hell of a band as well. If you haven't heard them before, you need to listen. If you have heard them before, you need to listen again. The guys are great at [...]
Friday evening, immediately following Elizabeth's set, Toronto's own These Electric Lives prepared for theirs at the upstairs stage of El Mocambo. We didn't get much of a chance to explore the lower floor of El Mocambo, but the upstairs is a long rectangular room with the bar opposite the stage. Before Elizabeth began [...]

Today feels kind of epic doesn't it? It's Friday, the sun is baking Halifax, the World Cup starts today, and I have the afternoon off to watch France play their opener against Uruguay (not that I'm overly optimistic about France's chances - they are bickering amongst themselves like kids crammed in the back of a station wagon on a long drive). Calls for something rather anthemic wouldn't you say? Well luckily, we just happened to have some new music from a hill favorite that specializes in exactly that. Toronto's These Electric Lives have been [...]
We are excited to announce (officially) that we're putting together a show for Tympanogram's 1st Birthday on Saturday, March 6th at Bug Jar here in Rochester, NY!

Last Saturday night was a rare occurrence in that it was a summer weekend where I actually had nothing planned. No anniversaries, no family gatherings, no prior commitments, nothing! So I scanned the live show listing and found an interesting bill at The Horseshoe featuring a couple of bands that I was unfamiliar with, a band that I've heard lots of great things about, and an old favourite that I hadn't seen for a while. The evening began with Pants & Tie who are a local [...]

just look at this picture, how cool isn't it? it made you look right? Anyway it's time for this again. Tracks from last weeks dropbox and stuff I've picked up or got sent to me via myspace. Firts off a remix of These Electric Lives song 'Keep Love Safe' by Mark Stanfield and Federson. OH this track is beautiful, sweet sweet electronica. mp3 These Electric Lives - Keep Love Safe (Mark Stanfield & Federson Remix) Some Fred Falke power [...]

I haven't been at this music blog thing for very long considering I started in December out of boredom. Now that I've moved onto this site for bigger and better things with a partner in crime it feels a little more legitimate. Coincidentally right as we started this new collaborative effort validation came way to my previous site. On that site I mentioned a song by the band These Electric Lives since it was high on my iTunes play count list. Because of that last week I received an email from the band with a new song they have just [...]
