Watch They Might Be Giants' music video for a new electronic version of their 'Istanbul (Not Constantinople)' cover.
We love it when a band that has been around for a while can still surprise us. Such is the case with the new video from They Might Be Giants . It's not the visuals that bowl us over, it's the music. A reworking of their classic "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" in an electronic fashion off of their recent Album Raises New and Troubling Questions , which we surprisingly still haven't heard yet! They Might Be Giants tour dates: Dates marked * w/ Jonathan Coulton 1/27 - Santa Cruz, [...]

They Might Be Giants , a band that most know for having created the theme song for Malcolm in the Middle , recently released a rarities album called Raises New and Troubling Questions . The album featured a very awesome synth-based version of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)," the iconic single from their album Flood . Today, Stereogum premiered the official video for the track, which was directed by the band's own John Flansburgh. Above, you can watch what happens when Speak and Spell is hooked up to a drum machine.

They Might Be Giants revisited a classic this week with the video for their "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" update.
They Might [...]
Nerd-rock kings They Might Be Giants have a new rarities album called Raises New And Troubling Questions out, and one of its tracks is a synthed-up version of their iconic Flood single "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)," a song that still remains firmly lodged in the cerebral cortexes of so many of the kids who saw that one episode of Tiny Toon Adventures . The track also translates surprisingly well to its dancier new incarnation, and we get to see what happens when you hook a Speak & Spell up to a drum machine. [...]

Southern romantic via Savannah, Dare Dukes has returned with the debut single from his forthcoming fan-funded, early 2012 full length, 'Thugs and China Dolls'. 'Lets be reckless, just the two of us' is one of the reverberating lines from 'Meet You at the Bus' a hopeful tale of youthful escapism that follows two young lovers about to make a great leap out of their probable toxic enviroment to an unknown, yet promising destination. While the story unfolds, a slow-picked banjo cuts to the core, and a melancholic horn slowly swells offering a sense of hope for these two [...]
They Might Be Giants played to a sold out crowd at The Fillmore on Saturday, with support from Jonathan Coulton.
The Indie press just doesn't seem to understand him, which is odd because Johnathan Coulton may just be the most straightforward and earnest songwriter making music today. Read more » http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ ping

Thank you Veterans. Thank you for all you have done for this country. And also thank you US Government for making it a banking holiday. For I have the day off. They Might Be Giants ∞ I'll Never Go To Work
Either because it have been so long since they had worked on adult material, or simply because the band's last recording session was so inspired, They Might Be Giants are releasing their second LP of the year. This collection of outtakes from the Join Us sessions should please any hardcore fan, but does it have the goods to stand on its own? UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA, GAUNTLET HAIR ( Bunk Bar , 1028 SE Water) To be sure, Unknown Mortal Orchestra's relatively meteoric rise shall not go without (continued) mention. In less than a year they've ridden a wave of guitar stabs, crispy break-beats, and funky, falsetto hooks from secretive solo project to prolifically touring power-trio. Since February UMO have been criss-crossing the country like Mitt Romney. This time they return to Northwest soil in what feels like an odd, or possibly premature, victory lap with back to-back nights at Bunk Bar. Perhaps less familiar but equally intriguing are [...]
I have been listening to TMBG since their first album, and pretty much love everything they do. Except this cover of Tubthumping. I could understand if it was done as a lark but if it was, it should be much, much shorter. It actually makes me crave listening to the original to get this version out of my head. TMBG - Tubthumping THIS is the best cover version of Tubthumping:
Como habitual, fica por cá o resumo do que de mais importante se passou na minha página alternativa do Facebook. A semana teve início com o belíssimo lado-B dos Washed Out, "Call It Off", que finalmente decidiram lançar um dos temas do ano, "Amor Fati", como single (ver texto). De seguida, mais algumas novidades, uma vez mais Veronica Falls a surpreender com o seu obscuro indie-pop através

The brand new album Artificial Heart from Jonathan Coulton was produced by TMBG's John Flansburgh and is now streaming on Youtube. Jonathan is also touring with TMBG this fall. Check out remaining gigs here. There is a really sweet song which Sara Quin ( Tegan & Sara ) sang in conjunction with Jonathan's instrumentals entitled, " Still Alive" on the album which you can stream below.

This was certainly a strange Halloween week, everyone. Halloween has always been the holiday where your freak flag can hang high, but this year, too many other strange occurrences went down. Case in point, a portion of the country got hit with one of the worst early snowstorms imaginable. Yes, New England hailed to the Pumpkin Throne in 10 inches of fresh powder. It literally was a scene out of The Nightmare Before Christmas . Everybody else in the nation probably went about their usual business, but weird things were still afoot. Here at Cluster 1, things still had [...]
