They Might Be Giants make us remember why we loved 'Tubthumping' by Chumbawamba when it first came out.
Leave it to They Might Be Giants to tackle probably the hardest song from this round of songs from A.V. Club's Undercover series: The power-pop goofballs take on Chumbawumba's "Tubthumping" with the help of a chorus of shouters. In the intro, the band says that "Tubthumping" is most like a They Might Be Giants song, which is sort of true when you get to it, especially since that chorus is made for mid-set shout alongs. They Might Be Giants have a new album, Join Us , due out on July 19. [ [...]
Undercover, e convidou a equipe do site A.V. Club para cantar junto no pequeno estúdio do site. Não espere grandes inovações deste cover: o They Might Be Giants mantém o [...]

When it comes to musicians, John Flansburgh is as friendly and outgoing as they come. For anyone who knows his band, They Might Be Giants , this won't come as a surprise. Over their 30-year career, the group has done everything from making educational children's records to having their music appear on Tiny Toons. (We apologize in advance for "Particle Man" or "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" getting stuck in your head.) They've also assembled a pretty damn impressive collection of alternative-indie rock that evolves and advances with each release. That being said, it's easy to see [...]

They Might Be Giants are the latest group to drop by the A.V. Club offices to participate in their ongoing 2nd A.V. Undercover Series.

Brooklyn's own They Might Be Giants (TMBG) have entered their 30th year as a band in 2011 and show no signs of slowing down. The band is in the midst of prepping their 15th studio album Join Us , set for release on July 19th. At a decent 47 minutes, the 18-track LP is TMBG's first adult-oriented album of new material since 20072s The Else. What better way to celebrate that release with a massive North American tour? Check out the complete list of tour dates below and/or visit the band's official concert calendar for [...]
They Might Be Giants are releasing a new album, Join Us , on July 19, and it appears we'll see a video for the song "Can't Keep Johnny Down." But the Johns are having fans create the videos and letting John Hodgman make the final judgment on who should win the contest. Details (and an adorable kitty) in the video above.

photo: Shervin Lainez A cheesy organ, nasal lead vocals. Nothing has changed for They Might Be Giants , The Brooklyn duo serve another helping of catchy tunes taht wil appeal to anyone with a sense of rhythm and a sense of humor. John Flansburgh and John Linnell have mastered the art of short slightly geeky pop songs. With their sound grounded in the Eighties they've found themselves to be fashionable again. Most of the tracks on their new album Joins Us [...]
![TOP 5 NYC SUMMER VENUES [LIST]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3537959_lg.jpg)
It's officially summer!!! That means it's time to start going to more concerts in the great outdoors. Sure, the heat of New York City in the summer is absolutely terrible. Don't let that stop you from letting go and grabbing some friends, a Nalgene of hard alcohol, and a blanket for some urban camping. There's lots of places to see music during the summer in NYC. The indoor venues keep going strong, but it's the makeshift summertime venues that make for the best time. The following are our 5 favorite summertime concert venues as well [...]

Corner Time, Volume One, Part One Anaïs Nin; Uncredited and Undated photograph "You won't stay all night? The muted, inarticulate despair these few words contained. The unheard, unnoticed, unregistered cry of loneliness which arises from human beings. And not a loneliness which could be appeased with one night, or with a thousand nights, or with a lifetime, or with a marriage. A loneliness that human beings could not fill. For [...]
![How can you assess an album (and why should you bother)? [Part II]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3515253_lg.jpg)
In part one of this post , I outlined the beginnings of a formalist method for assessing the value of a record. By examining the form of a piece of music music, so my argument went, it is possible to divine an aesthetic judgement of the work. And provided you could strip away all extraneous factors that might otherwise bias your judgement (personal biography, class origins, previous listening experience, the variables of conditions of reception, and so on and so forth) you could perfectly expect this judgement to be both aesthetic and universal. That post ended with [...]

We keep our eyes peeled for new tour dates announcements each week and compile them on Tuesdays for this handy column… Back in 2005, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were the poster children for the music blog revolution with the then seemingly unknown Brooklyn-based act reaping the benefits of their debut album being justly gushed over by numerous sites. When their sophomore effort didn't quite live up to the hype, the same sites that built them up were quick to knock them. Now, some [...]

I tend to gravitate towards artists that sing about geography, whether it's Sufjan Stevens with his states project , The Mountain Goats with his various geographic odes , or The Rural Alberta Advantage's dedication to their Hometowns . This week Bon Iver released the first track, "Calgary" to his excellent new album Bon Iver, Bon Iver , which triggered a subsequent leak a couple hours later. Largely due to his relentless touring schedule, Bon Iver was inspired by places and [...]

When They Might Be Giants announced their last batch of shows , the schedule seemed a little light. Well, the Brooklyn duo are making up for it with an extended tour this fall! The hotly anticipated Williamsburg Waterfront appearance on July 29 is still on the schedule, but check out below for the much-expanded tour dates. They Might Be Giants tour dates: 6/11: Toronto, ON @ Luminato Festival 7/15: London, UK @ Koko 7/16: Southwold, UK @ [...]
Four new tracks from They Might Be Giants.

That's right hip geeks, the Nerd Rock super show will be held for free on Sept. 21st at WaterFront Wednesday with THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS and Louisville's own THE DELOREANS . . It was pretty sad when The Deloreans would-be first waterfront appearance was canceled on April 27th due to flooding, so now they have another chance, let's just hope the Mighty Ohio plays nice. They Might Be Giants played the great lawn in 2005 for lebowski fest.
