Sounds From The Verve Hi-Fi is a compilation album by DC DJ duo Eric Hilton and Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation fame. As with anything that Thievery ever touches, it's a fine piece of work and highlights some of the best Brazilian/Latin numbers from the legendary Verve Records vaults, which are teeming with quintessential, classic jazz music and the like. Verve was responsible for bringing bossa nova to the United States, with such records as the mythical Getz/Gilberto and Jazz Samba , the album that first gave America a [...]

Thievery Corporation — Warning Shots "Lounge music is dead. All hail Lounge music." This is the type of thing I tend to hear when people talk about lounge, minimal and similar genres; luckily for those of us who love the genre, such volatility in the genre's definition rarely occurs. Why all this erudite mumbo jumbo? Because Thievery Corporation continues to prove that lounge, minimal and straight-up chill music is viable, beautiful and sustainable. Just take a listen and you'll find yourself in another universe. [...]

Well, it turns out the LCD Soundsystem/Hot Chip/Sleigh Bells upcoming fall tour won't be the only opportunity for North American folks to get their dance on. In another absurdly awesome paring ( anyone else noticing a trend , btw?), Washington, DC based DJ duo Thievery Corporation and legendary UK outfit Massive Attack have announced plans for a joint North American tour. Starting October 18th in Montreal, the two musical heavyweights will then go on to visit Boston, New York, Atlantic City, Florida ( wtf? ), and [...]

The news is out: Big Boi, Caribou, and Jónsi have been added to this year's Moogfest. They join the already-strong lineup of MGMT, Massive Attack, and Thievery Corporation. Although the full lineup was previously set to be unveiled today, that announcement has been postponed until August 10. A pop-up message on the official site explains this postponement: We've had tremendous response to the festival - and from that, some new and exciting opportunities have emerged. We still need a little more time to put it all together, so we thought it best to wait so that [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Roger Kisby, Getty Images Although M.I.A. 's 2010 has been rather bogged down by not-so-flattering reviews of her third album 'MAYA' and some beefs with the New York Times , she's still a woman with her fan's hearts at mind. At this past weekend's Hard Festival on New York's Governor's Island, M.I.A.'s headlining set was cut short due to thunderstorms. And as much as folks love to see her skills [...]

Just in time to close out the outdoor concert season, Virgin Mobile FreeFest 2010 will take over Merriweather Post Pavilion on September 25. In addition to the two main stages, which will feature Thievery Corporation, LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A., Matt & Kim, and others, the festival will also include a "Dance Forest" soundtracked by Chromeo, Sleigh Bells, Neon Indian, Modeselektor and Die Antwoord. As if that weren't enough, Trombone Shorty (featured on HBO's Treme ) will lead a second line march from stage to stage, a unique tradition from his hometown of New Orleans. Not only [...]

Sir Richard Branson is such a dude. He first ventured into the business world in 1966 with a published magazine called Student . He was 16. Since, his Virgin brand holds over 360 companies, including: Virgin Records , Virgin Wines , Virgin Money , Virgin Balloon Flights , and most recently (and most awesome) Virgin Galactic . Not only is he worth £2.6 billion (over $3.9 billion), but he also likes to party. He likes to party so much, that he has invited the entire east coast to join him for Virgin [...]
The Virgin Mobile FreeFest, which takes place at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, has announced the lineup for their free event. If you're a fan of indie-rock and dance/electronic music, then this is the festival for ya. As you can see by the giant eagle in the picture up top, the festival goes down on September 25th and features two separate areas. You've got the stage at Merriweather which features acts like Jimmy Eat World, Pavement, M.I.A and Thievery Corporation. Then you have the surrounding grounds [...]

2010 Virgin Free Fest Lineup So this year's Virgin Mobile Free Fest lineup was posted this morning and it looks pretty damn good, in fact, I'd even go as far as to say that it looks pretty awesome, especially when you factor the free part. With the exception of Jimmy Eat World (token mainstream pop act), Ludacris and T.I. (hip hop) and Joan Jett (rock'n roll nostalgia), it's more or less all indie goodness. Tickets go on "sale" to the general public [...]

The Virgin Mobile Festival (now called FreeFest) just announced their lineup for this year's free festival, with M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem and Pavement all topping the lineup. M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem, Pavement top Virgin Mobile FreeFest '10 [Consequence of Sound] On Saturday, September 25th, the Virgin Mobile FreeFest returns, this time with a lineup that crosses indie, hip-hop, and dance boundaries. The much controversial M.I.A., NYC alt-dance outfit LCD Soundsystem, and recently reunited indie legends Pavement will headline this year's festivities. The tickets [...]
Whereas other North American music festivals have been adversely affected by the harsh economic times, the east coast extravaganza formerly known as Virgin Fest has all but excelled. In 2009, the festival revamped from a two-day event that had brought the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Police to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD into a one-day free for all at Columbia, Maryland's Merriweather Post Pavilion. For the price of absolutely nothing, attendees were presented with the opportunity to catch Blink-182, Weezer, Public Enemy, and more. On Saturday, September 25th, the [...]
