»78s

So do you guys remember the Crystal Castles mix we hit you up with compliments of DJ Howlermonkey ? If not, let me just tell you that it was legit. Well, today the Howlermonkey is back with his rework of Thieves Like Us ' "Drugs in My Body." (I'm assuming this is part of the "Drugs in My Body" remix contest you can read about on Bigstereo here ). The tune starts out pretending like it's gonna be a mash-up (vocals from 50 Cent's "In da Club" grace the intro), but it quickly [...]

It's baaaaack! Yes, Weekend Jams has returned. I sort of lost track of the whole thing during our Year of Hell, a.k.a., the Best Unsigned Band Contest. But have no fear, I'm back and better equipped than ever to both dazzle and amaze with the sights and sounds of your weekend. FRIDAY THE 13TH [ Click on flyer for larger version ] NEW YORK CITY How could anyone resist the charms of Ruff Club? That aside, how could [...]
When a person experiences great change, the event often totally interrupts ones life, one is likely to turn to a variety of devices in an attempt to overcome the event (i.e. lots and lots of liqour, emo music, crack, whores, crack whores, etc). I turned to a variety of things. Here is a mixtape of emotionally invigorating music and other nonsense. This weeks playlist. Pond PA - If you live

Last week I went shopping for a suit. I went into Reiss , I knew they already had fine garments there, but I just was not expecting nice music to boot, one of my favourite acts of recent months Thieves Like Us were playing all the while I was in there, that really impressed me. I'd love to work in retail and get to choose the songs that play in the background. But anyway, Thieves Like Us , pretty good? Darned excellent! And i'm not usually one to look favourably upon acts with iconic artists song [...]

Timbaland feat. The Hives "Throw It On Me" ANTI-BIOTIC BONUS: Thieves Like Us "Drugs In My Body" ( analog giant on point)

What's in a name? Well, a whole lot in the case of Thieves Like Us . The band name is a reference to a New Order track of the same name, which was itself named after a Robert Altman movie of the same name, which was a remake of a Nicholas Ray film called They Live by Night , which was based on an Edward Anderson novel called, surprisingly, Thieves Like Us. Interesting, no? Hardly. Luckily, enjoying their music does not require any knowledge of motion picture history [...]

I'm sure some of you care. Sources tell Billboard.com a contract could be signed as soon as today for Live Nation to produce a 40-date amphitheatre tour by Van Halen this summer, with original frontman David Lee Roth back in the fold for the first time in more than 20 years. As previously reported, guitarist Eddie Van Halen's 15-year-old son Wolfgang has stepped in for original bassist Michael Anthony in the new incarnation of the group, which also features drummer Alex Van Halen. I could give a fuck. [...]

New York, NY (for now) The guys in Theives Like Us are temporarily positioned in NYC but only one of them is from the States - the other two are Swedish and all three of them met in Berlin. If you live in New York, you better catch them while you can - they're hoping to set up residency in France sometime soon. "Drugs In My Body" Thieves Like Us [...]

3hive

A great tip from a Lismore's email blast. The two bands just played Friday at the Delancy in NYC. I can't stop listening to the 12" from Thieves Like Us. This A-side plays like a lost track from the Trainspotting soundtrack. A little New Order, a little Daft Punk, a lot of dance floor fun. A tribute to tripping. 3hive does not condone illegal drug use (at least not before breakfast), but we fully support dropping beats that induce body moving euphoria. Tune into this Swedish trio and let yourself go. For those of you keeping [...]

The boys from Youngstown, OH are back on the road. A little mini tour for Gil Mantera's Party Dream . They'll be making their way through Boston on Januray 12th at the famous PA's Lounge in Somerville. If you missed the show last time, check out my posts from the show: Post 1 and Post 2 . In the meantime, stay on top of these brothers by checking in to their road blog from time to time - Gil Mantera's Tour Blog . Download: [...]

There's something about dated electronic instruments that immediately conjure weird associations for me. Whether it is a flashback to the Revenge of the Nerds musical showcase where they embarrassed the jocks by showing that computers can make some pretty badass music of the future, or if it is that robot arm cousin of Johnny 5 that could play the keyboards in a way that you just knew would soon make people like Emanuel Ax and Schroeder obsolete. Whatever it is, the sounds that 80s electro-pop churned out have the distinct ability to quickly put [...]
Maybe this is the point --- maybe --- but if New Order's "Thieves Like Us" was to transform from song shape to band shape then a-ha: Thieves Like Us would be it. I only assume the band must be named after the New Order song, and if so we all ...

MS fanatics have been circling their rooms in frenzy, distraught that our latest podcast has been held up for a couple weeks. For that I apologize. I will not, however, apologize for quality! Or sucker punches. Kid should've been paying attention. As anticipated, in all its CD-R length magnificence, is a not-so random sampling of the music that shaped the now departed summer. As always, the best albums are represented, the best tracks of sketchy records are liberated, and this time we've taken more pains to represent the changing music [...]
I know that I just posted about ultra low profile NYC sorta Swedes Thieves Like Us a couple of days ago, but I'm still in my early flush of infatuation. Plus, with Pieces of the People We Love hitting stores on Tuesday, it's good to slip this in before all the air in the disco rock discussion gets sucked up by the Rapture. Thieves Like Us -"Drugs in My Body" [...]

The title's pretty self-explanatory, no? Sunset Rubdown - "We Got Broken Eyes (demo)" I think I got this originally from Said the Gramophone , and if so send them many thanks for further confirming the cruel talent of Spencer Krug. So prolific is the four band man that this epic track never made it past the demo cutting room floor. Here, we have the re-afirmation of synth tones as punk bludgeon, just like Suicide used to make. Ear punching perscussive crunch accompanies [...]
