Tomorrow night Good Old War is playing at Binghamton University thanks to BUMP (Binghamton Underground Music Presents). I joined them this semester, and it has been a fun experience. Tomorrow night they are bringing together three very talented bands. The headlining act is Good Old War who are three piece band from Pennsylvania. The opening acts are local Binghamton band Driftwood and Thingumajigsaw are a saw/banjo duo who are from Norway. The show is tomorrow night at the Dickinson Dining Hall on Binghamton Universitys campus. Doors open at 8pm & the show [...]
Everyone's favourite Norwegian gothic folk banjo and musical saw duo Thinguma*jigSaw will be back in Dublin on October 6th playing in the Joinery Gallery in Stonybatter. Support on the night comes from Sport Murphy (whose music sounds very promising on MySpace) & Arlt .

Who? Thinguma*Jigsaw What? Scary Eerie Splatter Folk Sounds like? You tell me. Scott Walker, the easy listening version? Or the folk of Current 93.. So, I mostly don't have a straightforward plan about which band i'll blog next (i'll just look in my mediaplayer and pick the first one i see that not many people know). So today i'll talk about a band who is recording a new album, though there isn't any date fixed for that. Thinguma*jigsaw is a duo that makes [...]
There were only ever four real contenders for this once the voting started. The top four albums below trail-blazed from day one and the others all languished behind. This year almost 200 of you voted for 61 different Irish albums with 354 votes counted in total. That's three more albums than last year. This blogs championing of the number one album below has left me in a slightly awkward position but perhaps it was inevitable. No doubt, there will be a few cynics who discount the results as a canard but this was a public poll [...]

Sometimes I'm too busy to give music the attention it deserves. So with that in mind here's a roundup of some albums I've been enjoying over the last month. Matthew Dear - Asa Breed Certainly not something I would usually jump at, but the reviews got me interested. Asa Breed is a wonderful electronic dance pop album full of spectral dance music with a house feel. It has also spawned one of my songs of the year so far in "Deserter" - sort of a moody texture-rich companion to LCD Soundsystem's "All my Friends" [...]
