Joe writes: I was at a wedding recently where Drops Of Jupiter by Train was performed. This reminded me that years ago Eddie Ruffett and I came up with a concept for a compilation album tentatively titled How To Save American Music, featuring all those tracks by mainstream North American rock bands that became hits in the UK in the 90s and beyond. Often, the bands were never heard of again over here, but their one hit still sounds great. We couldn't persuade anyone to make this compilation album but maybe it was always destined to be [...]

A wise man once said: "The four right chords can make me cry." Okay, it was Third Eye Blind , but that doesn't make the statement any less true. I've been known to tear up at random times when good vibes become too overwhelming or catch me off guard. Some recent music-related happy cries: while watching Torres' live performance, listening to The National's "I Should Live In Salt" on repeat and hearing "What's What I Do" for the first time. Maybe it was the heartfelt lyrics, the handclaps, or the cool baritone vocals, [...]
Frontier Ruckus covers Third Eye Blind's 'Semi-Charmed Life' on AV Undercover.
When I first thought up the idea of musical Throwback Thursdays, I knew that at some point Third Eye Blind would come up. I never expected it to be so soon, but here we are, gazing down the cliff of a 90’s classic that we pretend we don’t absolutely adore. When deciding which track off [...]

While Friday night everywhere is about going to parties and getting too inebriated to accurately recall the course of the evening, that sense of hedonism always gets heightened when you're at South by Southwest . But while a huge chunk of ATX was chugging $11 beers and hitting that most wacky of tobaccy, Consequence of Sound was indulging in its own solitary drug of choice: music. Based on some of our choices, from a mid-'90s Southern rapper sensation to a riotous English psych-punk band, you might think we were the one's on drugs. But really, we just happened to find [...]
Here's a playlist of songs filled with innuendo. Whether it be sex, drugs or something else, these songs aren't saying exactly what they mean. It just so happens that a lot of them are older songs. So, sit back decipher the lyrics and enjoy some great music. See if you can figure out what they all mean.

There's a certain aura about a big city and everything it has to offer. This week's playlist offers you a handful of songs devoted to some of the most happenin' spots around the U.S. This is one of my favorite playlists I've put out to date. I hope you feel the same. City Lovin' from MusicThatIsntBad on 8tracks Radio .

Angelo Patino is one-half of the duo that is PeaceTreaty. Josh Anaya and Angelo Patroni began working together in 2010 and so far so great. Angelo's musical background and Josh's technical knowledge makes for a successful pairing, indeed. Now signed to Dim Mak Records, the two have wasted no time in dishing out some tasty tunes. As a little holiday treat, the two gifted their fans a free download from PeaceTreaty, Hot Mouth and Chris James. You can get that at the bottom of this post as well as the Magnus and Timon remix of their "In Time" tune featuring Anabel [...]
So that means it's an improvement, right? Things are all culminating. The year of music, the festive fifty, the holiday season, family visits. All of it. I'm not sure if I'm going to do a "Best Of the Year" post this year. Last year the top 10 were very clear to me. This year it would be a top 5 (so that it wouldn't just be the 10 albums I've heard this year) and I'm just not sure that's worth it... And I have a lot of musical irons in the fire. So I probably [...]
The American alt-rock band played the third stop of their India tour at HRC, Mumbai on Friday, November 30.

I enjoy many a song or album that folks would deem a “guilty pleasure;” though, the pleasure I get out of a good Beyoncé hit or catchy teeth-brushing-themed tune composed for Yo Gabba Gabba! is hardly guilty. Rather, I categorize my music of the besmirched, recent yesterday as culpable of unlawful indulgence. When thinking of our embarrassing, auditory desires, we children of the 90s generally think back to our coveted scratch ‘n sniff sticker-graffitied Backstreet Boys albums that we’ve since loaded onto our iTunes and blast in our dorm rooms after hours. [...]

Is it just me or did we have a solid two full days of winter and then went right back to the beautiful sunshine of spring? I'm hoping if we give summer one more dedication it will be satisfied and get the hell out of town. I'm ready for some snow. So here it is, a few tunes about the warm temps.
This post is to serve as a link to the post that I just made with this week's countdown. There were bonus songs I wanted to label, but I blew past the character limit. So, here's a link to that post. More content to come soon :)
Third Eye Blind's self-titled debut album was, and for some still is, crucial college listening. For me, it soundtracked a vital, transitional period in time. I had worn out the tape I owned so much that I had to get another to replace it (499 for a CD, fuck that). I used songs from it in mixtapes I made to impress girls ('Motorcycle Drive By' was always a hit with the ladies). The lyrics of 'Narcolepsy' were scrawled on the back pages of exercise journals where notes from lectures in economics should have been. This was pretty much the case [...]
It goes without saying that the fall mixtape is my favorite of the year. I've spent the last two weeks narrowing this down to what hopefully will be as rad to hear on your end as it is each time I listen through it on mine. Getting the closest friends, setting your destination for the [...]
The C'Mons take Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life" and reveal its darker undertones.
I think we can all agree that this is a weird week. Heavy on legends, but plenty of places where you can experiment, sonically. Please, have fun with it! Thursday, September 27th Third Eye Blind, Judgement Day, Classical Revolution Orchestra, Musical Art Quintet, and more at Great American Music Hall This event is also being [...]

Alright, I know Wisconsin is a state that’s gotten its fair share of crap. Remember in Dogma when Alan Rickman explains that there’s something worse than being exiled to hell? That something was being stuck in Wisconsin for the entire span of human history. But I’d like to say that, Milwaukee, WI, I approve of your ability to put on a top-notch festival with a damn good lineup. This past Saturday, Milwaukee hosted Rock the Green in Veterans park, an eco-friendly event where one of the stages was powered by local cyclers on stationary bikes. Honestly, the [...]

“Occupy This Album” is what every liberal political junkie should have on hand. I realize that’s a bold statement. But “Occupy This Album” truly shows, just like the Occupy Movement, that people from different walks of life, different bands, different genres, different colors, and different beliefs can come together for one purpose, to help each other out, and to show that the 99% will not back down! Spanning four discs, and seventy-seven vastly different artists, “Occupy This Album” is the sound of a movement that will never die. And with that many songs, I’m pretty sure this album [...]
