I wonder what sort of music Sarah Palin listens to? She's only 44 so that would mean that she was 18 in 1982 so I wonder if she was fan of new-wave, arena-rock, or even NWOBHM ? What do you think? No matter what type of music she favors, don't you think Sarah Palin looks like a Lenscrafters model? I do. You know you think so too. MP3 | U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me [...]
I associate summer and driving quite heavily and frequently make a summer CD mix for the sole purpose of driving around with the windows down and the stereo turned up. I didn't make one this year, partly because I'm also car-less this year for the first time in more than a decade (eep!), but here's a few of my favourites. Rebel Girl - Bikini Kill The trash-can sound of the drums in this song is so awesome, and then there's Kathleen Hanna belting it out over top. So [...]
Each month, I make a playlist consisting of an artist of every letter of the alphabet. This month I asked the help of several of my counterparts to help me out with suggestions. Needless to say this is a great playlist and you have no other to thank than yourself. Thanks for all the suggestions. Every song on this month's playlist either has to do with Summer or reminds us of the season. Also I've been asked to say why I picked each song so that will begin this month. This is June 2008: 1. I Write Summer [...]
Something a little different today, instead of 'new' bands, and 'new' music; 'old' bands and 'old' music. Two of the oldest CDs I own, and yet the music never gets old. First up: Third Eye Blind , who are still alive and touring. Their debut album is simply fantastic, and their subsequent albums have almost been able to live up to the high standard set by the first. These guys, no doubt, have had a pretty big influence on my taste in music. Here, two of [...]

So here I go traipsing perilously into US Magazine territory, but bear with me, there's good music herewith. AOL Spinner blog posted a slideshow the other day of the 20+ musicians that Winona Ryder has been romantically linked to over the years . Quite unfathomable -- it reads like the most-played list on my iPod [er, no pun intended]. Amongst the mostly-vicious comments on the original post was this laughable one: " She dated MICHAEL NESMITH? UGH. If you're planning to date a Monkee, then choose Mickey Dolenz because at least he [...]

This morning I hopped a plane to New York City for a long weekend visiting three of my best friends from the year I studied abroad in Florence, Italy. I am ridiculously excited. After all those months of spending ridiculous amounts of time together with these gals, seeing mind-boggling beauty and pushing our tenuous edges through hesitant Italian speaking, train rides all over Europe, lots of carbs and gelato and Michelangelo, and questionable Italian dance moves in sweaty clubs, we all went back to our respective lives across the country and the world. The four of us saw [...]

I just finished reading the excellent book Redemption Song: The Ballad Of Joe Strummer by Chris Salewicz and thought it would only be appropriate to post a of The Clash's (and Joe Strummer's) songs. The book was a bit too academic but awesome nonetheless. Despite the excellent post over at Berkeley Place , this is (IMHO) I've collected a pretty nice supplement of cover songs. Awhile back I also did a post of various versions of Jimmy Cliff's "Pressure Drop" which was covered by The Clash as well. If [...]

Sometimes it's nice to just rock out to an album. Or should I say RAWK out! Enter Blacktop Mourning . No Regret is the debut release by the young band Blacktop Mourning; it is also the debut release from Tyrannosaurus Records , a new label founded by Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz . Not only has Duritz chosen Blacktop Mourning for his label's first release (which came out May 15th), he also helped produce it as well as provide some background lyrics on a few tracks. With [...]
Counting Crows is heading out on the road this summer in support of their new album coming out this fall, which is in the mixing stages at the moment. They will be reprising their double bill with Live -- I saw this same pairing on the tour for This Desert Life at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, and that was just when Ed Kowalczyk was hitting his full rap-rock stride (complete with crotch-gesturing, which he has now perfected into a veritable art form). It was [...]

"Ninety-five degrees on the blacktop/ I hear its cool on Mars" It's that time of week again when we go bat-crazy and hit the shuffle button with all our might. here goes nothing. Third Eye Blind - The Background Interesting big of background on 3eb: when they played at Spring Fling, the guitarist tried to make out with a certain McKean girl's 9th grade sister. Simon and Garfunkel - The Boxer First of their [...]

I didn't pay very much attention to Third Eye Blind's debut single, 'Semi-Charmed Life', when it first came out back in 1997. I remember it getting some radio airplay over here and thinking it was jolly enough, but I actually listened to. A few years ago I got hold of the band's first album, and started listening to it again. Suddenly everything hit and I realised what I was listening to: the song that was probably the most graphic radio hit ever recorded at the time of it's release. This says a lot about how [...]

Anyone else find this a little ridiculous?? THE WEAKERTHANS - Reconstruction Site Sep 26, 2003 Epitaph The thing I love most about this album is that every song sounds like a different genre of music..There are some uptempo punk numbers, songs with an electric slide, slow folk tunes, and some regular pop/rock... The Weakerthans -A [...]
