2012 by thisfrontierneedsheroes This Frontier Needs Heroes' sophomore release The Future (released last May) was one of my favorite discs of the year. Brother-sister duo Brad and Jessica Lauretti wrapped textured vocal harmonies with a minimalist guitar work and various hazy electronica to create a mood around their rich narrative lyrics. The band has recently posted a new single "2012" (streaming above) which was recorded with Jason from Justice of the Unicorns. The band has also posted a [...]
Brooklyn cover song collective Girl Crisis , which comprises Chairlift's Caroline Polachek, Class Actress's Elizabeth Harper, Au Revoir Simone's Erika Spring and many other notables, take on Ace Of Base's FM classic " The Sign " for the latest edition of its ongoing project. Its probably the best one of the series so far, sharp and a touch chill-inducing. Read More...
Here's the week's Monday Music, the weekly post wherein SOIWT briefly lets its London-only hard-on droop. A brief aside... There's something about someone not replying to me when romance is or was involved that really upsets me. The person in question probably convinces themselves that it's kinder this way; that they're doing me a favour by being so cut-throat. Nope. The truth is, I think, that they are being cowardly and cruel. If you don't want to see me, tell me so; nothing more complicated. I'll be sad, but I'll handle it. But to not even give me the respect of a reply, [...]

The Future by This Frontier Needs Heroes This Frontier Needs Heroes' sophomore release The Future (released May 10th) is my first exposure to the Brooklyn neo-folk duo and this new disc is a striking and mournful walk down the lonely backroads of Americana. This new disc follows the band's 2009 self-titled debut and, this time around, the band decided to leave the studio for a more intimate approach and recorded in an old school house in Wassaic, NY, with engineer Justin Pizzoferrato (MV & EE, Dinosaur [...]

Review: This Frontier Needs Heroes - The Future Siblings Brad and Jessica Lauretti are This Frontier Needs Heroes , an alternative folk act out of Brooklyn. Their second album, The Future , is out and available on Bandcamp . This album is immediately striking. Many of the tracks feature the two [...]
So, whilst the first half of 2010 was relatively quiet on the live music front, August was absolute mayhem. And as the dust settles on another festival period, and we try to assess the physical and financial damage in a calm and orderly fashion, it doesn't look like things are slowing down on the gig radar. Which I'm rather pleased about. Monday 6 th September 2010: Miaoux Miaoux and Wounded Knee at Electric Circus . Bart's House . Sneaky [...]
This Frontier Needs Heroes is a brother sister duo that plays folk and Americana and I just can't stop listening to them. They've a perfect kind of revivalist group, with a peaceful Neil Young quality, with electric guitars, hand claps and warm sibling harmonies. Okay, I'll admit, I love family bands. I especially love it when they're remarkably talented. There's a synergy to their performance like they're inherently going to blend well. It's in their blood. And bands operate like families, so this is just their unfairly talented advantage. Main vocalist Brad Lauretti has a sad-stained voice, [...]
(Photo by Andrew Tingle) Just Because by This Frontier Needs Heroes Some songs sound so apropos, filled with a certain understated sense of importance. Brimming with a laid back conviction, "Just Because" is nothing out of the ordinary, but it certainly holds its own against a long lineage of alt country and Americana. Imagine the road-tested rock 'n' roll of Tom Petty mixed with the troubadour, rustic nature of a classic Johnny Cash tune. It's a great song about saving the whales and maintaining [...]

This Frontier Needs Heroes' "The Secret Book"
If you haven't heard of this band, I feel very lucky to be the one to introduce you to them. The band is called This Frontier Needs Heroes and the members consist of two siblings, Jessica and Brad Lauretti. Hailing from Brooklyn (who isn't these days), this alt-folk band is bringing us fantastic things on their new album, The Future. It's currently out and you can purchase it at their bandcamp

bandcamp five :: geology, the honey ants, & more…
There are approximately 37 posts about great bands/music you might not have heard about waiting in the queue here at Folk Hive but it seems disingenuous to throw it all out. Why? We're still hooked on the Magic Man album! But regular posting will resume soon, TRUST. In the meantime, we present this weekend's edition of the Bandcamp Five: 5 pretty swell bands making pretty swell sounds. ** {From the Three Birds EP } {From This Frontier Needs Heroes } {From Klarka Weinwurm } [...]

Mad Mackerel Recommends...This Frontier Needs Heroes
We had an e-mail recently from This Frontier Needs Heroes - an American Folk duo of brother and sister Brad and Jessica Lauretti. Having played with other MM faves The Tallest Man On Earth and The Handsome Family, we thought we'd give them a spin. And boy, we were glad we did! They sing honest, almost plaintive stories of love, loss, and longing for a better world. They possess a powerful and
