Getting ready to head out to the Pieta Brown show in a while, I am working on getting the Maria Isa show and the Dessa show mastered and should have them up here sometime this week. The Dessa show was amazing, she had a lot of new material, so fans of her will definitely enjoy that show. Also, it was being taped by TPT, and will air March 27th at 10pm . I'm trying to figure out a way to record that, and will hopefully be able to share that here. [...]

We all know I am a big fan of the Michigan music scene and why not with a line up and winter music festival like this? It's Mittenfest V and it's the place to be if you are local or planning on being in the Michigan area - If only I wasn't 3000+ miles away. :-/ There are crazy amounts of talent performing over the 4 days starting tomorrow. Think about it; Matt Jones , Fields of Industry , This is Deer Country , [...]

I've been looking forward to Mittenfest since before it was announced. In fact, I might have been looking forward to Mittenfest since a few years back, when I was living in Chicago and found out that all my favorite acts from my homestate would all be gathering for the four day festival - And a dirt cheap price. This year, however, Mittenfest has become something more than it was to me, at least, featuring not only some of Michigan's best acts but also some of the best acts in indie music as a whole. [...]

not sure how i've missed this is deer country (kate pote and dan heafs from michigan), but i'm glad i stumbled across a review of the album they just released entitled what wandering heart (thanks to mostly midwest ...when you've had enough vocal nerd rodeo, head over there for the session they just posted with joe hertler)...it's a really great collection of folk songs. the tracks are intricate at times and stripped down to acoustic and vocals at others. kate's voice is nicely unique, and it perfectly fits folk. dan plays enough instruments to make [...]

Photo by Jacqueline Garet I first discovered This Is Deer Country last year in a small venue in Madison, WI . Hailing from Houghton, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula this indie folk duo combines the restrained, but sometimes fiery vocals of Kate Pote with the supporting vocals and vibrant rhythm guitar work of Daniel Haefs . This Is Deer Country will be releasing their new LP What Wandering Heart tomorrow ( 11/12 ) at their album [...]

HANK ALTOGETHER: This is Deer Country's 2008 EP Daylily King is sneaky good. The duo consisting of Dan Haefs and Kate Pote offer sparse folk ballads reminiscent of Magnolia Electric Co. and Emily Jane White. These folks may look like kids, but they don't sound like them. As jaded as your drunk uncle, as clear as your first kiss, This is Deer Country knows how to spin some good sounds. Casiotone for the Painfully Alone likes ' em . And they're coming to house shows across the midwest. [...]

So yes, you think "Michigan once again". You think "maybe I started to post too much about Michigan". Then you notice Michigan starts hanging around more than it used to. Then Michigan asks to borrow money and accepts deliveries on your behalf. Then it happens...Michigan asks you to help it move and wants to store their old university textbooks in your unfinished basement. You find yourself surrounded by Michigan and you don't know how you got there. Then it hits you, like that moment just after you awake from a bender the night prior...you remember why and it all makes [...]
