If you go back far enough in the QBiM archives, you'll find a little mention about a duo going by the name Ivy League, who released a cool version of Arcade Fire's "Crown Of Love" a while back. After having mentioned them (and having been asked to take the offending cover mp3 down) the band sort of disappeared from view... until recently. It seems that a 60's UK pop group who were also called Ivy League decided to start playing again, thus forcing Ryland Blackinton and Alex Suarez to rechristen themselves This Is [...]

This Is Ivy League's sound falls squarely between Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, and Belle and Sebastian. It's taken a while to grow on me, but "London Bridges" is a great song for lounging around, or perhaps to make brunch to. Mmm, brunch. Man, I need to eat. Also check out their cover of The Arcade Fire's "Crown Of Love". Sounds like it'd have a place on the Juno 2 soundtrack... This Is Ivy League - London Bridges This Is Ivy [...]

This is Ivy League are a duo consisting of Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackinton. They're currently based in New York. The band play some of the nicest sounding indiepop to hop into my inbox lately. It's at time like this that it's worth wading through the awful and the average. It seems that these occasional gems are worth waiting for. This is Ivy League take their cues from Belle and Sebastian, Camera Obscura and Simon and Garfunkel. Mix in a love of the current Swedish indiepop explosion and you have a [...]

This is what I thought the Ivy League would sound like. The band is obviously aware of who they are: an easy-listening pop-rock group reminiscent of a hazy night in a house somewhere just off campus at, say, Yale. This is Ivy League maunders just enough from a mainstream sound to be appreciated by a slightly underground audience, but they flirt with it enough to keep things simple on your ear. Their songs are often carried by beautiful, and almost tropical, vocal harmonies, which are the true gem of this album. After [...]

This track is off This Is Ivy League's debut EP "London Bridges". It is a cover of Arcade Fire's 'Crown of Love'. For more about on This is Ivy League check out their myspace . This Is Ivy League - Crown of Love [zshare]

With the Vampire Weekend-mania begining to die down, at least until they release their next album, bloggers and fans alike are scurrying to find that next unbelievably talented, up-and-coming band. You know, the type of group, who deliver a jaw dropping sound, write tear jerking lyrics, and are oh so marketable. I'd like to nominate This Is Ivy League to fill this position. Sure, my pick is nothing earth-shattering. After all, the Brooklyn duo of Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackinton have been receiving much buzz of late, even drawing comparisons by some [...]
This Boy's Still In Love You know it's a good sign when you're still obsessed with a song for more than a couple of months. I posted the K.I.M. Remix about a month ago of The Presets' "This Boy's in Love." I know it's generally the norm to listen to songs as they're released as singles, but here are a few other amazing choice selections off their latest album Apocalypso. The Presets-A New Sky [...]

time again to round-up some of the music that's washed up in the anyone's guess mailbox over the last two months. it's a bit of a big lineup this go round, as we're trying to jam two months' worth of music into one post. so we'll just get right to it - after this quick reminder: we try to listen to everything that comes in here at anyone's guess - though i'm sure, and afraid, we miss some things - so if you have music you'd like us to hear, please do pass it along . [...]
I'm not a huge Cobra Starship fan, so when I learned this band and that have a member in common (Alex Suarez), I gave a big "meh." But This Is Ivy League play a very infectious brand of pop, all...
The video for This Is Ivy League 's song " London Bridges " is as retro and quirky as the song itself. Check it out: (more...)
Listening: 1. The Atomica Project : One of the most beautiful projects to come out of Chicago in along time. Reminding a lot of Everything But The Girl, and there absolutely nothing wrong with that! Hopefully there will be much more to come on Wade Alin and vocalist Lauren Cheatham. Listen to: Gravity ( mp3 ) 2. This Ivy League : Billed as one of the best pop groups of 2008! Listen to: The Richest Kids ( mp3 ) 3. Sumkid : On the count three, one, two, three.... Chuck Norris on Drugs [...]
What terrible dank rock have I been hiding under the past month or so. I'm only two songs into the debut album by this duo and I think I'm in love. To be honest I began writing this post {and began the love infatuation} approximately three minutes before beginning my first listen to the album. This love affair began at the first guitar string plucked in this spot on rendition of Arcade Fire's song Crown of Love. mp3 : This Is Ivy League - Crown of Love (Arcade Fire Cover) [...]

Flashback Friday will continue next week! This weekend's weather forecast looks rather bleak, so best one can do is put on some music that makes the sun shine even if it's raining! I've mentioned This Is Ivy League briefly this week, but their latest album really deserves a few words more! This NY duo has easily written one of the most entertaining and joyous pop-albums of the year. It's like crossing Belle & [...]

Each week (or whenever we have time) we take a listen to some of the top songs from elbows, review them and then give our selection of alternative tracks that we believe should be getting more recognition Sunny Day Sets Fire "Brainless" This song reminds me a little bit of Cloud Cult's "Pretty Voice" in the openng lines just for the sheer blissfull hopefullness of the sound and a similar pattern in the melody. It could possibly also be compared to the polyphonic spree, only [...]
After searching within the depths of the music blogosphere, it looks like I'm a bit late writing about this indiepop band. I suppose my laziness is partially to blame as I've been listening to these guys for the past month or so. For the benefit of the peeps who don't know, This Is Ivy League is a New York duo of Ryland Blackinton and Alex Suarez hell bent on ushering in a summer of blowing bubbles, croquet in the park and patting small children on the head. If you enjoy bands like Camera Obscura or Pas/Cal [...]
The diving cruise on the Red Sea is already history; once again, I encountered lots of fascinating underwater creatures. Pics might follow later... Of course I'm nowhere near finishing a proper post with new music, so this mix here will have to do for the moment! The Your Vegas debut album, A Town And Two Cities , is everything I hoped it would be: classy and energetic pop-rock, perfectly produced and catchy as hell!!! Haven't found one bad song yet... [...]
